![]() FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is this Society about? Let me start by explaining what this isn't: The OSS isn't an alliance or group that engages in trade agreements or establishing trade routes. We encourage players to form trade agreements on their own or to utilize one of the many alliances on NS for that purpose. The Society isn't in need of donated troops or funds. We don't engage in "war" RP (member-nations may do that on their own), nor do we enforce laws or act as peacekeepers. The OSS is benevolent in nature. It promotes dialog and a member-nation might serve as neutral ground for peace talks or other activities. Why join? The benefits of membership, from an OOC perspective, are: you become affiliated with a dedicated gaming group, your nation is accepted regardless of your species or tech level, you have the opportunity not only participate in character RP but to also host OSS events on your own, you have the opportunity to network with experienced players and that will help your own nation grow - or - you're an experienced player and can help newer nations learn RPing tricks. Who can join? New and experienced players are welcome. All nations may apply regardless of their tech level, species or beliefs provided those beliefs are in line with the OSS Mission Statement and Charter. Applications are approved by the current Officers by committee. The OSS reserves the right to deny any application. This is an alliance, right? Nope. It's a RP group based on a concept similar to the real life Bilderber Group. Your nation's citizens may or may not be aware of us - this especially works for MT and PMT nations that are hesitant to work with FT nations for fear of destroying their own canon. We are not beholden to any alliance, region or nation. We're backed by an Illuminatiesque group of seasoned RPers that game for enjoyment, realism and quality of writing rather than for political gain. What is the Multiverse? You've mentioned that a few times. It's that spot down in General labeled P2TM. Besides that, and for those of us playing in NS or II, the multiverse encompasses all and allows for many different canons to exist simultaneously. Players need to come into this with the mindset that their nation is now aware of these various other 'verses'. They might not understand how these 'verses' exist, and most likely they won't have the technology to understand the mechanics behind the 'verses' (fudge factor, please). This allows for alternate concurrent/contemporaneous history; your version of Earth is different than the version held by another player. This also means that no one owns the entire universe nor the rights to Earth and her history. You can't be a dick and cross over into another player's 'verse' without their explicit permission. No invading their version of Earth, in other words. Follow that law, and you'll do well. You CAN share the same 'verse' with a player if you are both fine with it. How do my people get to meetings and stuff? I'm a 1950's era Pony nation. Ask. If you have a good enough reason for your 1950's era Pony nation to be involved with the OSS then we'll find a way to establish transportation, even if it's another nation offering to take your representatives to events. Again, we need to rely on the fudge factor. The Society would be pointless if we couldn't interact with other nations. Thus let's try to establish a little common sense: don't be a dick. What 'verse' are we headquartered in? It's suffice to say that we're headquartered somewhere that makes it convenient. At the moment, it's where a sponsoring group's offices are. If your FT nation's history touches upon Earth, or if it influences Mankind on Earth or is a dominant power in the universe... we reckon you ain't from around these parts. You're more than welcome to use one of the Society-affiliated portals to get to and from your home 'verse' and the primary one we're gaming in. This will allow others to ignore your canon when it infringes on their own, and it will allow you to ignore theirs when yours is so much better. (Ha ha. No, seriously, you now have an excuse to ignore conflicting canon, so please use it rather than quarreling over whose canon is the only acceptable one.) The headquarter's physical location is on Pax Concordia Station, Tribus Sector. Hey, that's not how we do stuff in II! That's why we're in NS. We're not trying to step on toes but we'd like to break out of the box and try a new approach. |
