Hello people, so every season I'd go to my favorite anime news/blog/review/thingy site and look through the list of whats going to be showing that season. First phase would be the "Scroll Through", where I (you guessed it) scrolled through the list and glancing at each preview poster and name. Usually you can sorta tell what kind of series it was from the picture and the name. Then I go into phase 2 which is 'Research' reading the short snippets and doing minor research I can be bothered to do most likely just a little Google and/or wiki search here and there, usually about who's involved etc. Phase 3 is 'The List' containing all of the series that I'm definitely interested in (usually these end up being the ones that I watch for the whole season). Most of the time I will magically find a way to watch most of the series on my computer even ones that aren't on the final list. I'd give them an episode or two to reel me in before giving up on them. Now remember the blog/site I linked earlier? Well they do screenshots and review/analysis posts and such. It doesn't happen very often but there have been some series in the past which I dismissed early on, only to pick up midway or later on in the season. Although most of these series that I re-join or do a late pickup on tend not to be as enjoyable for me as the ones that I've always been interested in, they still had their moments and were worth mentioning when talking to friends etc. TL;DR I judge book by their covers some times and may have missed some fun series. ex. I avoid series like High school of the Dead, Maken Ki and Hykka Ryoran etc because I tend to steer away from those 'fan-service heavy' shows. However I did enjoy series like Ben-To or the Monogatari series because there were funny etc. Well for the Monogatari series I really do like the camera play and such they use through the series too. Ok ths TLDR segment is getting long too, so to sum all this up. So is there any series where you dismissed because of your tastes or gave up because it started off slow but then were picked up (or re-picked) later on? |

I used to also scan through the preview posters and do research on titles that I was interested in seeing. But with work and school I haven't had the time to do any research before hand so I will just sit down and watch whatever looks good at first sight or whatever series is dumbing up alot of buzz within the yaoi or anime community. There have been many that I regert wasting time on but it's good to try new things before dismissing them as bad or awful. |
