Drakon
“It’s about owning power. Not just the perception of power, or the control of power, but being the source and the pilot of your own rule. I’ve seen kings who were perceived as strong cut down by disloyal lords, and manipulators who were as insidious as serpents watch their elegant glass houses of lies shatter with a single stone. Holding power is a trap, owning it is the only way to survive.”

The Drakon won’t tell you that they were victims of human atrocities. They won’t claim they were dealt a bad hand. They surely won’t ask for mercy. That’s why they own you and everyone you work with. The Drakon are obsessed with ownership above all other things, not just of things, but of themselves. And to own yourself, you need to define yourself instead of letting others define you, a truth that has led the Drakon into becoming masters of image, expectation, and inspiration. When people think of dragons, they think of the Drakon, because the Drakon made certain that people defined dragons as Drakon. People know dragons are powerful because of the Drakon. People know dragons are to be feared because of the Drakon. People know they are less than dragons because of the Drakon.

The Drakon have refused to be classified as anything but powerful, and so when the church declared war on the Drakon with promises of heavenly salvation and whispers of impossible riches, despite considerable losses the Drakon refused to compromise. The relative resurgence of the breed in modern times is undeniable proof of the success of the Consortium, the modern face of the Drakon founded Supremacy. Now able to conceal themselves in plain sight, the Drakon have come out of their culling with a grander vision and a greater role in the world than they ever would have dreamed of in those dark nights before the time of industry.

Drakon, more than any other breed, seek a feudal state of affairs where they rule over a servant class that devotes itself to the Drakon’s betterment. A Drakon will always seek to master those around him for his own benefit, so that through rule he can accomplish far more than as an individual. The mindscape of a Drakon is vast, and seen from the highest point to comprehend the greater concerns that can be missed when focusing on details.

Comparatively speaking, the Drakon interact with humanity on a greater level than any other breed, and as a result tend to have a great loathing for them, and at best regard them as little more than cattle. They grudgingly will admit to humanity’s ability to occasionally come together for a greater purpose, or produce an individual of some potential, but both instances are rare, and buried beneath a sprawl of petty, simpleminded creatures possessed of ambition without justification. While Drakon prefer to be referred to as rulers and lords in their new incarnation as CEOs and business moguls, they will often jokingly refer to each other as cattle ranchers, minding giant herds of base animals under the illusion of protection and caring.

While the Drakon are extremely proud of their work in the Consortium, it is not unheard of, or even looked down upon, for a Drakon to join another supremacy. After all, ownership of self includes choosing how you gain power. Drakon who wish to join other supremacies will have no trouble finding the funding to acquire the beginnings of a hoard, and ties between the entertainment and business sectors have had massive dividends.

Draconic Appearance: The origins of the classical image of the European dragon, the Drakon are winged quadrupeds with prominent armored scales and typically green, brown, or grey colorations. Their draconic form can reach colossal sizes, so maintaining the Masque and lowering Wyrmsign is of paramount concern to the Drakon.

Dominances: The Dominances of the Drakon deal with concepts of ownership, rule, and status. A Drakon in his own holdings can wield incredible power as the land itself acknowledges his rule, and the mortals who inhabit it are broken to his will. The greed in all creatures can be used to sway their loyalties to the Drakon. Even the supernatural creatures of the world can be made to submit to the will of the Drakon through its sheer presence and royal bearing. Some Drakon have developed the power to reward their most valued vassals and punish those that foolishly fail them.

Draconic Temper (Greed): The Drakon see themselves as exemplifying the draconic nature, the epitome of the dragon brand that’s foremost in the consumer’s mind when they think winged reptilian monster. When the Drakon needed to hide, they didn’t conceal themselves in shadow, they changed the world so that they could hide in plain sight. Now they rule from towers of glass and steel and look down upon anyone that hasn’t made the same climb they did. In the mind of a Drakon, obstacles are meant to be overcome, not complained about and regarded as impassable walls. So when somebody around a Drakon fails and in the mind of the Drakon it’s because they didn’t try hard enough, it tends to make the Drakon go ballistic (Resolve plus Composure to resist). Drakon aren’t just greedy, they’re champions of greed, and when they see others failing to follow their lead, it incites a volcanic rage. The Drakon who have Greed as their vice tend to be die hard capitalists and American patriots (Even if not American, the Drakon consider America their baby), and will not tolerate insults to either. On a failed Resolve + Composure roll, anti-capitalist or anti-American sentiment can put a complete stranger in the Drakon’s crosshairs for a very long argument, and it can lose an employee or vassal their position or their life. (Alternatively, feudalistic Drakon still in or from the Old World can replace capitalism and America with their country and its culture as their triggers.)

Drakon and the Nest: With a natural tendency towards powerful charisma and leadership positions, Drakon prefer to be the lead decision makers in a nest. Initially this worked out exactly as well as you might think trying to tell a bunch of immortal anger prone egomaniacs what to do would work. However, nests where the Drakon was the most powerful, or the others who indulged the Drakon to not have to deal with his sulking, soon found out that Drakon actually are really good at running nests. Not only do Drakon tend to be better at seeing the big picture and reaching compromises, but the management training that’s unavoidable in today’s business world provides more conflict resolution skills than most dragons have accrued in centuries, not counting extreme violence. Furthermore, the financial power that many Drakon wield can be a great boon to their nest mates, providing them with employment and funds to integrate with human society.
