DJI Spark Setup Sequence for Beginners

I believe for most beginner Spark owners, figuring out where to start and what to do first is overwhelming and confusing. I hope this will help the beginner to get organized and their Spark in the air safely. Notes and suggestions will be (italicized) and added where needed. I understand you want to get your Spark in the air ASAP, but please take your time and go through the steps outlined below. It's better to do it right the first time, then to just "go for it blindly" and crash your drone first time out. While I was waiting for my Spark Fly More Combo to be delivered, I had a couple weeks to read through the manuals (a few times) and watch many - many videos. This was a great help which raised my comfort level a few notches. At first, you may seem overwhelmed, but as you keep reading the manuals, watching the videos, etc., things will start to make sense and click. When my combo did arrive, setup was a straight forward experience. Plus as a bonus, my drone stayed in one piece!!

Section I - Start Here
If you haven't gotten your Spark yet, this is the perfect time for you to get a head start. Read, watch, and search out as much info as you can about your Spark. Download the necessary software and check it out. If you have your Spark but don't know what to do -- set it aside and follow instructions below:

1. Read the following documents to get a good understanding of the Spark:
* Spark In The Box
* Spark User Manual
* Spark Quick Start Guide
* Spark Quick Start Guide Fly More Combo
* Spark Disclaimer and Safety Guidelines
* Spark Intelligent Flight Battery Safety Guidelines
* Spark Remote Controller C2
The most up to date manuals can be downloaded by Clicking Here
NOTE: I suggest you read the manuals a few times if needed until you pretty much understand the information.

2. Watch the Spark tutorial videos:
On the DJI website by Clicking Here
On YouTube by Clicking Here
NOTE: On YouTube, enter "DJI Spark beginner setup" in the search bar and start watching.

3. Search out and join some Spark Owners Groups on FaceBook:
* Virginia DJI Spark Owners/Flyers by Clicking Here
NOTE: On YouTube, enter "DJI Spark" in the search bar - scroll through results. If you see a group you like - join up.

4. Go to the DJI.com website and REGISTER for an account. If you already created an account @ DJI.com - just LOGIN.
NOTE: The USER NAME and PASSWORD for the DJI.com website will be the same credentials you will use to LOGIN to the DJI GO 4 APP and DJI Assistant 2.

5. Download the latest version of the DJI GO 4 app:
* The Android Version is compatable with Android v4.4 or later and can be downloaded by Clicking Here
* The IOS Version is compatable with iOS v9.0 or later and can be downloaded by Clicking Here
NOTE: Open app and LOGIN. Check out all the features - you won't mess anything up at this point. It may not look exactly as some videos you watched or have show all options - no worries.

6. Download and install the DJI Assistant 2 Software for Desktop or Laptop:
* Windows and Apple Setup File can be downloaded by Clicking Here
NOTE: Open software and LOGIN. As of now, the DJI Assistant 2 can only be used to update the Spark. The RC Controller has to be updated through the APP.

Section II - Unpacking and Setup
When your Spark arrives you will need to do a few things. Complete this section before you attempt to FLY. Since this is just a overview, follow all directions in manual.

1. Check Contents
* Check to make sure all items are included in the your package and in good condition.
NOTE: If anything is missing or broken, contact DJI or your local dealer.

2. Activate the flight Batteries
* Spark Batteries are shipped in hibernation mode. Charge all Spark batteries to 100% first to activate.
* If you ordered the Fly More Combo, Charge the RC Controller also.
NOTE: Each battery must be charged to 100% to activate.

3. Activate the Aircraft
* Launch the DJI GO 4 app.
* Tap "Enter Device" icon in lower right corner.
* Select "Activate the Aircraft".
* Scan QR code on storage box.
* Follow prompts for activation.
NOTE: Use your DJI.com account to activate your Spark. Activation requires an internet connection.

4. Connection of Spark Wi-Fi to DJI GO 4 APP *** Skip to step #5 if you purchased Fly More Combo ***
WITH OUT REMOTE CONTROLLER - Spark only
* Power "ON" the Spark
* Open Wi-Fi on your phone
* Connect to Sparks Wi-Fi (Spark-XXX)
NOTE: Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password is located on the storage box.

5. Connection of Remote Controller to DJI GO 4 APP
WITH REMOTE CONTROLLER included in Fly More Combo
* Power "ON" the Spark and Remote Controller
* Open Wi-Fi on your phone
* Connect to Spark_RC Wi-Fi (Spark-XXX)
NOTE1: Your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password is located on the storage box and Remote Controller.
NOTE2: The Remote Controller is linked to the Spark by default, and so the Spark Wi-Fi is not visible.
NOTE3: Airplane MODE recommended to help reduce interference & distractions.

6. Linking Spark to Remote Controller
If you purchased the Spark and later purchase a Remote Controller - they must be linked.
* Ensure the Remote Controller is within .66 ft of the Spark during linking
* Power on the Spark and the Remote Controller - wait until the Spark indicators blink yellow
* Press and hold the Power Button of the Intelligent Flight Battery for 3 seconds - release the button when you hear one beep - the front LEDs will blink RED
* On Remote Controller press the Flight Pause Button/Function Button/Customizable Button simultaneously
* Linking begins when the alarm becomes a quick single beep after an alternating single/double beep
* The Sparks front LED's turn solid RED after blinking GREEN
* When the status LED on the Remote Controller turns solid GREEN, linking is complete
NOTE: If you have to replace your original Remote Controller for whatever reason, you will need to re-LINK again.
