Sabine: Partner Partner _________________________________________ Aluminum Avenger: Too grouchy/married to his war against Can Crushers Juliet Skywalker: She didn't appear to be buying what I was selling to begin with...likely not Mouse Girl: Didn't like me. Likely not Pandora: Cute country girl=A+; Plus she can do the Spider-Grimm-Man Thing Angry Spear Girl: Absolutely Not. She'll stab me if I burn her bacon in the morning Clovis: Possibly? He looked tough... Poetry: Tough, capable, bit of a temper problem. Possibly? Chloe: Do we need another speedy fighter? ________________________________________________________ Benji chewed on the tip of his pencil, going over the list of potential partners as he meandered his way through the courtyard. Arriving at Lumiose and dropping his bags off in the main ballroom, he bypassed the throngs of people awestruck by the architecture of the building in search of his partner or another potential partner to add to the team. So far the list of candidates was proving to be...difficult. So far, only a couple stuck out to him but he wondered if they would end up being the right fits for his team. He had a few...ideas but the problem with most of them appeared to be a lack of any kind of heavy oomph. Something...overtly powerful that could melt the faces off Grimm at a hundred yards. He had tried to get a bead on the guy with the giant coffin gun but it didn't look like he was anywhere around yet... Frustrated, Benji stuffed his notebook into his pockets, running a hand through his hair agitatedly as he stumbled through the courtyard, casting around as if the answer to his problems would be...sitting on a bench examining what appeared to be a magical staff. Benji glanced around, wondering if he could be so lucky to find exactly who he needed just...sitting on a bench in front of him like that. He straightened his jacket, strolling up along side the girl as he cleared his throat. "Excuse me?" Benji asked. "Would you mind if I sat down here for a moment?" Lumina, despite being created to be a conduit for Adina semblance and despite the mystical properties of the materials it was made out of, was not capable of predicting the future. Yet, she stared into the amber crystal, expecting it to put the answers to all her worries into her head. Adina sighed, leaning back into the bench. She had dropped her suitcases off into the ballroom, and had found the courtyard a welcomed relief from the massive crowds of her peers. With the day they get their teams just around the corner, she couldn't help but think of how any one of them could be her teammates, which included the intimidating ones. It was frustrating not knowing who her teammates would be, but at this point was there any sense of worrying about it? Adina’s ears twitched at the sound of someone approaching and asking if they could sit down. “Hm? Oh—“ Adina looked up, and gave the boy a small smile. “Not at all!” She replied, sitting up straight. After he sat down, Adina couldn’t help but ask: “Are you a first year, by any chance?” |

Personable...check. That set her above 90% of the people he had met so far. "I am, as a matter of fact," Benji said, crossing one leg over the other and turning to speak with her properly. "Been bumming around Lumiose for weeks now; made the mistake of flying up from Kiloude early so I was crimminally bored for the longest time." Literally criminally bored; he was fairly sure assault and battery of gang members was still assault and battery in the eyes of the law. "Benji," Benji said, offering a hand to shake. "Is it fair of me to take a stab in the dark and assume you and I are going to be classmates?" |

What a relief, he was just as nice as he looked. "It's hardly a stab in the dark," Adina replied. "I happen to be a first year as well! What a coincidence, hmm?" Her hands had been folded up in her lap until Benji held his hand out to shake, which she gladly reciprocated. "It's nice to meet you, Benji, I'm Adina." She was silent for a moment, before sighing a bit and placing a hand over her heart. "Oh, what a relief... you're one of the least scarier students here..." Adina sheepishly admitted. "I think I saw a guy lugging around a giant coffin earlier!" She also saw a guy with giant, mechanical fists as well. There were so many students with extravagant, powerful looking weapons; she couldn't help but wonder if Lumina would be enough. Adina pressed her lips together as Benji talked about being bored in Lumiose. "Oh, I'm surprised to hear that!" She replied. "Lumiose is such a big city. I've lived there my entire life, but then again, local haunts have a tendency to be more entertaining than touristy attractions..." |

"Adina," He repeated, putting the name to the face so he would remember it later. He would no doubt be introduced to dozens of people today and he wanted to be sure not to lose her name so quickly. "Pleasure. Shame we didn't meet back in the city or I might have seen some of the spots locals keep to themselves. You'll have to let me in on the secret for our furlough weekends...unless they're not for country folk like myself~" "I'm sure these kids are far scarier than they look," Benji said with a small laugh. "Between you and me I think it would be rather easy to kill Grimm with a gun the size of a small sports car or a sword that you could comfortably surf on. I've always been of the opinion that those with "small" or "simple" weapons make the most skilled hunters in the end." "I may be biased there, of course," Benji said, reaching back and patting Aria in her case behind his waist. "But I'd wager you wouldn't be here if you didn't know how to use that interesting looking staff you have there...am I right in thinking that you know how to to a little magic with that thing?" |

Some of those spots--no, most of those spots were mainly Faunus hangouts. Did she forget to mention that? She might have forgotten to mention that. Well, there were some that both humans and faunus flocked to, she'd have no problem showing him around Lumiose. "Well, perhaps when things settle down, a more personal tour can be arranged." Adina replied, smiling at Benji. So, he was a hunter who liked some finesse when killing Grimm, she could sympathize with that; though having a sports car sized gun might be handy. When Benji made notice of Lumina, Adina's ears perked up a bit. "You should've bet on that," She joked, leaning over to pick up her staff. "I suppose you can call it magic, but I won't be pulling Bunearys out of hats anytime soon." |

So far, so good. Friendly, pretty, and apparently capable of arcane arts. Half his list just got torpedoed and sunk to the bottom of his Honorable Mention pile. "I'd like that," Benji said, returning the smile. "Although we're going to have to define "quiet down" because I don't suppose that's going to happen until we graduate...and maybe not even then. But the next time we're in Lumiose I would appreciate the local's guide." "I reckoned it was either a magical staff or you were particularly adept at beating Grimm to death with a wooden stick," Benji said with a chuckle, eyeing the staff intently. "I would have been impressed either way but if you were secretly a shillelagh champion I would be even more so." He had a certain appreciation for older forms of Grimm warfare and Dust manipulation before the art had become muddied by everything from portable canons to guns shoved into every weapon possible just because they could be. "Shame though since I can actually pull a rabbit out of a hat," Benji said with a small shrug. "Don't have a rabbit to prove it with but-" The powdered dust cartridge on his hip glowed purple as a small Glyph appeared on the bench beside them. Another one appeared on the lawn a few yards away with his hand sticking out, snatching up a dandelion and pulling it back through the portal as they dissipated. "Any last minute wishes you want to make before school starts?" Benji said, offering it to Adina. |

Adina was feeling better about the academy already; she hoped there were more human students like Benji-- would it be considered a flight of fancy to hope they ended up as teammates? She didn't want to consider the alternative that could happen. "That's true, I think it would be better say 'when we're not tripping over ourselves getting a spot in the ballroom'--did you see how crazy it was in here?" She asked, laughing a bit. "Either way, one local's guide it is, then." Adina laughed even more at the idea of using Lumina as a melee weapon. "Maybe I could with some Steel dust augmenting, but even then Lumina would probably only leave a nasty knot on someone's head." His attentive gaze on her staff didn't escape her. She watched intently as Benji stuck his hand into the glyph, and then with amusement as he pulled out a dandelion. "I've got a few," she started, taking the dandelion from him. "But you know what they say about wishes, right?" She was silent for a moment, rolling the stem between her fingers. "Oh, right, any particular reason you've been eyeing Lumina so closely?" Adina started, grinning at Benji. "I don't suppose you want me to show you a little magic as well?" |

"I think they plan to stack us like cord wood," Benji said with a snicker. "Which, depending on who you're stacked on, might be a blessing or a curse. Still, I would imagine there will be one or two bruised ribs earned from someone sleeping next to a kicker." He reclined on the bench a little, watching her twirl the dandelion between her fingers while eyeing the staff out of the corner of his eye. "If you don't mind," Benji said sitting back up. "Unless you're the type of magician who doesn't reveal her tricks...or your magic is the sort that might singe my eyebrows off." "Either way," Benji said, leaning closer and dropping his voice to a whisper. "May I ask if you're planning on...going in with anyone tomorrow? If you had a team laid out or anything...I know it's not strictly speaking in the spirit of the academy procedures but...well, given the fact that academy procedures involve us randomly assigned to the first person who we bump into I think it's alright to cheat the system just this once, don't you?" |

"I think I already have gotten a bruise or two just from trying to get a spot," Adina commented, rubbing her arm. "Some students are wild." She added with a laugh. Adina couldn't help a toothy smile as Benji sat up with interest. She pushed herself to stand, grasping Lumina with both hands. She took a several steps away from Benji, tapping Lumina's head against the palm of her hand in thought. "There might be a possibility of eyebrow singeing," Adina warned, turning to face him with a sly expression. "Just don't lean in too close." Adina held Lumina with one hand, swinging it across her in a gentle arch, a thin stream of fire following the head. She changed her grip, which allowed her to twirl the staff as she passed it off to her other hand where she continued to spin it for several more seconds. She switched her grip back to what she started with, holding Lumina away from her as the last of the embers died mid-air. "Ta-daa~!" Adina sang, smiling. "I hope you weren't expecting something like a rain of fireballs, or something--I'd rather not set you or the courtyard on fire. That kinda stuff is just going to have to wait for a more appropriate setting." She walked back to the bench, and placed her hand on her hip as she shifted her weight onto one foot. "And to answer your question--no, I don't really have a team plan. I actually didn't even know that's how they were gonna do it...." She admitted, sheepishly. "I thought it was going to be more planned out, to put it simply." She tilted her head to the side. "You're asking because you to be teammates, right?" |
