"At the North pole. Geddit? Chili beans. Chilly."

A light pout was given as the two girls shot each other a look, rolling their eyes and one of them shaking their head before they walked on, chattering and giggling to one another. "Oh come on. That was a nice one." he called after them before putting his hands up in the air. "A'ight. Fine with me." he sighed, flopping back and peering down at the water that sparkled up at him. "Couldn't take a good joke." he huffed to himself before glancing down at the HoloCaster image that stared up at him, one eyebrow raised.

"Because it was a dumb joke. That's not how you flirt with girls! I am ashamed to be your brother. Are you sure we're related? I gotta be adopted."

There was a vague voice heard through the HoloCaster and the image of his brother turned, calling back something to the one who had shouted for him. "Sorry, bro. This is where I hang. Lessons are in order. Do me a favour. Keep your jokes to a minimum. They can get old." he stated, giving a light wave to his brother, who rolled his eyes once before finally hanging up and placing the HoloCaster in the bag with his game console.

"They're not that bad." he grumbled, clicking the bag shut as he pushed himself away from the fountain, only to crash against someone who just walked on by.

"Crap!"

Blanche wandered through the courtyard, trying to avoid the largest of the crowds. She hadn't realized there would be so many people at the academy. Too many people. And too many buildings. They were supposed to go to the amphitheater, but Blanche had no idea where that might be. And nobody else seemed in any great rush to get there, so it wasn't like she could just follow the crowd.

The whole academy was much bigger than Blanche had thought it would be. All of the buildings just oozed... bigness. Echoing bigness. Even without her semblance she could practically see the echo of those cavernous buildings.

She had become distracted by watching her imaginary echos, and had forgotten to watch where she was going. Before she knew it, she felt herself colliding with another body. Blanche scrambled away from the person, apologizing furiously, "Sorry. I'm so sorry."

He flailed a tad bit, reaching out and grasping her hand just on the moment she scrambled away from him. It gave him enough time to catch his balance, and not fall back into the fountain behind him. Letting go, he breathed a sigh of relief. He did not want to know what would have happened to his stuff if he had fallen in there. Coins and stuff, that was fun. But he was no lucky coin. And he didn't think it would give him any luck either. Perhaps a laughter instead.

And-- Right!

Snapping out his thoughts, he looked back at the girl and put up a hand, shaking his head a bit. "I moved too quickly. Should have looked and made sure I wasn't going to collide against anyone. Just my luck that I was." he spoke with a light laugh. "You okay? Didn't step on your toes or anything? Also sorry for just grabbing your wrist like that. Didn't feel much for falling back in there."

He gestured behind himself, quickly taking a few steps away from the fountain before looking back at her. And finally he grinned. "Nice pair of goggles."

Blanche stiffened at his touch. Why was he doing that? Was he angry? Was she in trouble? He was going to drag her off to the headmaster, who would yell at her for being clumsy and stupid, wasn't he? Somebody who was so clumsy and stupid as to knock into somebody on their first day probably wasn't welcome in a combat academy.

He, the headmaster, was going to call her grandparents and tell them that there had been some sort of mistake, and she wasn't supposed to come here after all, and then she would have to go home. And Chloe wouldn't go with her, so she would be stuck in Olivine without her best- only really- friend after having failed at the only thing her grandparents ever asked of her.

She might as well just drown herself in the fountain, and get it over with. It would beat the slow death of constant ridicule and scorn she would be going home to.

Once again, Blanche found herself so wrapped up in her fearful daydreams that she barely noticed what was actually going on around her. The boy had righted himself, and released her arm. It was his laugh that had finally snapped her out of her thoughts. He didn't sound angry at all. "N-no... I'm f-fine." she squeaked.

As he mentioned her goggles, Blanche absently touched the mirrored plastic. They were pretty spiffy, it was why she had bought them. Well, that and she liked the eye protection they afforded her at high speeds. "Th-thanks." she chirped, "I-I... um. I l-like yours too."

A relieved grin curled around his lips when she stated she was fine, causing him to rub the back of his head with a relieved sigh. "Good, good. Sorry again for grabbing you like that." he commented quickly when he saw the look on her face. The last thing he wanted was for people to run away from him screaming that he was trying to harm them or something in that direction. That would... Well, that wouldn't be a very good sight for other people...

"They're pretty handy." he spoke, patting his goggles once with a big grin curling around his lips. "It helps me a lot with my semblance too." he added with a light shrug. "I don't feel much for getting a fly or something in my eye. It happened once. Never again. I thought I was dying." he told her, making a face. "What about yours?" he finally asked her, a curious glint in his icy blues. "They for protection too? Or just because they're spiffy?" he asked with a light smile.

"Either way they rock!"

Blanche shook her head, her hair flying this way and that as she did so. "No, I'm the one... Sorry. I sh-hood have been watching where I was g-going." she stammered. Somehow, it felt like this conversation would be going nowhere fast. It was lucky that he had decided that her goggles were more interesting than apologizing back and forth, otherwise Blanche would have been stuck forever.

"A little of both." she nodded, understanding from experience exactly what he meant about flies in the eyes. It only took one bug flying into her eye while out for a test flight for her to decide that she needed some sort of eye protection. Her goggles were both functional and spiffy, weren't they? She certainly thought so, but she had been a little concerned that other people might think they were dorky and make fun of her. Blanche wasn't entirely sure how she would handle something like that. Cry, probably.

The both of them should have watched out in the end, then. Both of them were at fault, simple as. But he wouldn't mention that again. For some reason he had the feeling the conversation would have been very back and forth... Apologizing to each other and claiming that they were the one to blame instead of the other. If he had that correct, that was.

"That's good." he laughed softly, reaching out to give the goggles a light tap, a friendly grin on his face. "They look cool on you. Make you look like one of those awesome aviators in the sky." he added, placing a hand to his hips and giving a wide grin. "You should be proud of those goggles." he commented before tilting his head a bit, inspecting the place and closing his eyes halfly. She was a first year, wasn't she? She didn't seem like a second years... Beside that, the other students hadn't came yet. It was up to the rookies first.

"Mm... You nervous about who's going to become your team?" he finally asked her, looking back with a curious glint in his eyes.

Blanche flinched at his sudden movement. She took a step backwards, pulling away from his outstretched hand. Conversation was hard enough. She really wasn't prepared for touching. Not from a stranger. "S-sorry." she mumbled. Hopefully he wouldn't feel too offended.

A wary smile crossed her face. That was exactly the sort of look she had been going for. Her grandfather had an entire book case dedicated to aviation in his study. Blanche remembered working her way through them over one summer. It made sense to her, since she spent so much time airborne.

Oh. They were talking about teams now? Blanche wasn't sure how they got there. Perhaps she should have been a more active part of the conversation, but he seemed to be doing just fine without her. "Y-yeah." she admitted. That was one way to put it. "Wh-what about you?"

He blinked before reminding himself not to do that anymore. She was a bit skittish, wasn't she? Not too fond of touching and such. He'd respect that and give himself a mental slap on the fingers if he had the urge to do something stupid. Last thing he wanted was to scare her off. "No need to apologize! I should be the one apologizing for doing that." he laughed, shaking his head once before folding his arms over his chest.

Best way to keep your hands to yourself, he hoped.

Was he talking too much again? His sister had often told him she needn't talk because he did the talking for two. What if he tried to lessen it for this girl, so she could have some words in too...

"To be honest... I'm kind of excited at the thought. Alright, a bit nervous too. But mostly excited." he admitted, tilting his head a bit. "I just hope that whoever ends up being my team... Ends up being swell. Of course, there might be a few rough patches, I suppose." he pondered, frowning a bit.

"Excited." Blanche mumbled. She wondered what that must be like. Being able to just blindly enjoy the anticipation, as opposed to constantly fretting over whether or not her future team members would like her. Although maybe he was as nervous as she was, just less neurotic about it.

Maybe he was more sure that he could get people to like him. He did seem nice enough. It was hard to imagine somebody not liking him. At least, at first impression. Maybe he was secretly a giant bag of douche, who only pretended to be nice.

"I-I'm sure... you'll find a g-good team." she tried to sound encouraging.
