He turned his head a bit at the small noise he heard, observing her expression quietly before a faint frown grew on his face. Was he incorrect? Did she not have a nice time with her grandparents? Alright, to be honest... They could be strict. He wouldn't deny that. Had they been strict with her, perhaps? Shaking it off, he looked ahead again, giving a light smile when she mentioned his siblings. "Yup. Two of them. One is like the other part of me. The other is a flirty idiot." he snickered softly, shaking his head before looking over at her. "My sister's name is Patricia, but everyone calls her Patty or Pat, really." he confessed with a light shrug. "The other's my fifteen year old brother. His name's Mattieu. Or Matty for short." he stated, giving a snicker. "As to what it's like. Annoying at best sometimes! I remember the times I chased my brother, or threw him out in the lake. Granted, then my parents would be angry at me in the long run cause I was older and should know better." he spoke, wagging a finger. "Despite it all, I guess we can get along, Mat and I. Just... Most of the times we roll our eyes to each other. He took it upon himself to take up the family business. So I can focus on becoming a Hunter. Then again, Patty has an eye on it too. Perhaps a joint leadership, if they get along. But anyway, that's not for many years more to come." he spoke, shaking his head. "You know, one time my brother pulled a prank, and because I'm usually the one pulling them, they all blamed me." he snorted. |

He spoke poorly of his brother, but it sounded like he really loved him. Blanche smiled. His story reminded her more of Chloe's home than her own. Of course, that wasn't really accurate. With them there had been no family legacy but the ranch to worry about, and there hadn't been much in the way of pranks that she could remember. Perhaps she simply hadn't been present for them. "What sort of prank?" she asked, her interest piqued. There hadn't been much opportunity for childish mischief in her life. The closest she had gotten was reading about it in books. She wondered if it was anything like what she had read. With cups of warm water and shaving cream and feathers inflicted upon the sleeping. Or had they been more elaborate, like the jokes her grandmother sometimes played on her. "My grandmother loves that sort of thing. When I was a child she used to send me into market for items that didn't exist." Blanche giggled, "I can't tell you how long I spent looking for a left-handed tapestry needle." |

Nicholas made a face, closing his eyes for a second before tilting his head to look at her. "Well. It actually happened a year ago. We were having this birthday party. And Mattieu was annoyed with me because I pulled a prank on him. He promised to get me back for it. That was weeks back, though. So I thought he had all forgotten about it." he stated, walking along and taking in a deep breath. "Buuuut. He hadn't forgotten it at all. So. During the time this big birthday cake was to be made, I kept getting calls and I kept disappearing. Mattieu too. But they kept an eye on me for my reputation. Eventually, I got back and we were about to cut the cake." he spoke, hesitating for a second before finally making a gesture with his hands that indicated an explosion. "The moment that knife touched the cake, it exploded. Over everyone. It was a big cake. Like... Real big." he stated, moving his hands away from one another to show the size. "All eyes fixed on me. Granted, later on it was something we laughed about. But you should have seen the looks on their face. Sheila especially. It wasn't until way later I remembered the look on my brother's face. He was quick to admit he was the one that pulled it off, though. The same day, even." he muttered, rolling his eyes. "I dunked him in the water. He seemed like he needed a bath anyway." |

Blanche couldn't help but smile as he spoke. He was a very entertaining storyteller. She wondered what he had done that had inspired his brother to take revenge upon him like that, but didn't think it was right to ask. He probably didn't want to spend his day telling her his life story. "That sounds really lively." Blanche said, giggling softly at the story. She tried not to let the pang of jealousy she felt shine through. The parties her grandfather had hosted were far less warm and friendly affairs. All itchy uncomfortable clothes, and being seen but not heard. Such a thing happening at such a stuffy dinner party was so absurd that Blanche couldn't even imagine it. "S-so! A hunter?" she asked suddenly feeling the need to change the subject, "M-m-m-hay I ask why?" |

"It was very lively. In the end, we both got grounded though. Matty for a longer time then I. And I because I dunked him in the lake." he stated with a sigh, walking ahead and stuffing his hands in his pockets whilst scrunching up his nose a bit. He opened his mouth, about ready to tell her about the boring business parties he usually had to attend to when Blanche had asked him why he wanted to become a Hunter. It caused him to fall silent for a second, blinking once before looking ahead with a faint frown on his face. "Well... I guess in the long run, I just want the world to be a better place. Without having to worry about people getting killed." he commented with a slight shrug. "What about you, what's your reason for wanting to become a hunter, Blanche?" |

Blanche flashed him a sympathetic smile. She might not have had siblings, but she understood being grounded well enough. Her grandfather had always saved his hardest drills for the weeks when she was under house arrest. Although, perhaps it was different for Nicholas. After all, his father was not a hunter, but some sort of business man. Did Nicholas have to fill out business papers? Do filing? Blanche decided that she would rather stick with her grandfather's punishment laps. He gave a good, if somewhat generic, reason for choosing this path. Still, it was better than saying he was in it for the money and women or something along those lines. Blanche chewed her lip as he turned her question back onto her. "I... it's c-complicated." she mumbled. There were a lot of reasons. Because her grandfather had told her to. Because she wanted to protect people. Because there was literally nothing else she could do at this point. But none of them sounded true to her. Perhaps it was none of those things. Or all of them. Blanche wasn't sure. |

An eyebrow rose at the answer he received from Blanche, watching her closely for a second before giving a light nod. "I see... So, were you forced to get into it? Or did you want it, but you were unsure. So you were given the last push by a family member?" he added, tilting his head for a second as he walked on, taking in a deep breath. "Either way... I'm sure you're a powerful girl, Blanche... You'll manage to fit in here perfectly fine. And you'll get a good team. With some luck, I might even find myself eye to eye with you on Launch day!" he commented with a warm smile, eyes glistening up. |

"S-something like that." Blanche admitted with a shrug. It was something along those lines. At least part of it was. She didn't know. But then he changed the subject, and suddenly she didn't find herself needing to come up with an answer. Best not to dwell on these things when she didn't need to. After all, why she was here was irrelevant. All that mattered was that she was here. Only this conversation was not any better than the last. Instead of being anxious about her past, now she had to be anxious about her future. What kind of people would she end up on a team with? She would be able to get onto a team, right? What if something went wrong and she ended up alone? Or surrounded by people who didn't like her? But teaming up with Nicholas might be fun. She seemed nice, and he didn't seem to mind her quirks. Not that he had seen all of her... quirks. "I... I'd like that." she offered him a shy smile. |
