Launch Day - [LBRA] [Austin and Raira]
Topic Started: Oct 17 2014, 03:50 PM (513 Views)

Pseudo Wood(o)s

The pair lands in a seemingly-ordinary section of forest where the sun barely shines through the leaves, nature crackles underfoot, and the trees...are pitch black. Upon further inspection, some appear to be made of stone. As it turns out, there are a sizeable number of trees here that are Sudowoodo and Trevenant Grimm, and they will gladly attack the duo if they happen to pass by. Tread carefully, students.

OOC: The GM for this thread is Clover. GM's will RP mook (weak) Grimm during combat, to get players used to working with a GM. The combat system will not be used for these first two threads. Please begin by RPing your landing strategy.

Have fun and happy Landing Day!

Austin was starry-eyed throughout most of Professor Sycamore's speech, simply stunned to be in the presence of such an esteemed individual. Honestly, you'd think that he'd be less awestruck, being the wonderful representation of a rich kid he was. But still, amazed as he was, tuned in he was not. So, once Sycamore and Diantha had concluded their presentation, he was more or less oblivious to what was about to happen, simply looking around at all the other students with his signature goofy grin on his face. He was excited! Sure, since he'd missed the rather important speech by his teachers, he didn't know about what, but it was certainly something.

Once the person right next to him had been launched to kingdom come, Austin finally saw fit to speak up. "So, what's h-" Before he could utter the final word, Austin himself was fired from the platform he was standing on, much to his surprise. That didn't deter his good mood however, because pretty soon after the launch, he was laughing. God, nothing could faze this kid, could it? Of course, seeing as he hadn't expected the launch, he also happened to lack something very important: A plan for when the ground would inevitably rush up to greet him, probably more violently than would be pleasant. Oh, and speak of Giratina, there the ground was, looking as dirty as ever. It seemed that impact was imminent-

If not for a well placed tree branch that happened to catch on Austin's (increasingly convenient) cape. Well, wasn't Austin the lucky one today? As he sort of bounced and swung from the branch, he began to laugh, even though there was no one within earshot. "Wow! That was great! This school is awesome!" He exclaimed, still to an audience of approximately nobody. After a few more moments of hanging in the air, though, Austin's demeanor faltered. "Uh… Where am I anyways? Is anyone there? Can anyone help? Hellooooo?"

Raira was listening to the headmaster. She could tell by looking around at her fellow students that most of them were coming up with plans to land. She rolled her eyes. Why plan a strategy, which could easily be thrown off track, when you have instinct to protect you? She bounced on the balls of her feet, excited to get started.

The Dedenne pulled out Oberon in sickle form, and bent her knees when the first person was launched. Student after student was launched off of their platforms until it was her turn. She closed her eyes tightly right before she was launched. She had been in the air for a solid few seconds before she opened them.

"Woooooooo~"She yelled. She was flying! Sort of. Trees rushed by below her. Wind whipped her face, and forced her ears and antennae back. Even so, it was still one of the most awesome experiences in her life so far. She closed her eyes and let herself just feel the wind and freedom that it seemed to bring. Indulging herself in the sensations, she didn't realize how close she was getting to the trees. At least not until she brushed the top of one of them.

Her eyes shot open, and she forced her self closer together. Time for instinct to take over, she thought. Branches scratched at her limbs as she fell. She realized that she was screwed when she crashed through a branch that was in her path. Freaking out, she started waving her sickles around wildly, hoping that they'd catch onto something to stop her fall. Instead, the sharp blades easily sliced through the boughs, slowing her decent slightly. She was fast approaching the purple form of another student. "Get out of the way!"She screamed, before crashing into him, and sending them both tumbling to the ground.

Oberon clattered a few feet away from the duo. Raira groaned, and pushed herself off of the boy. "Owww...Fuck instinct... Never trusting it again..." Turning to her, she guessed, new partner, she said,"Sorry, hun, I didn't have any brakes~"

Austin was beginning to get rather comfortable, if bored, hanging from the tree, when he heard an exceptionally loud shout from somewhere diagonally above him. He looked up hopefully, just in time to see an indiscriminate shape ram into him and knock him out of the tree, his cape managing to outlive the branch, as the latter broke while the former slipped off of it none the worse for wear. It took a moment after he and the stranger came skidding to a halt on the ground for him to sit up and begin to fully comprehend what had just happened.

"Oh, it's okay!" He began, not having really looked at the other yet. "I don't think anyone has brakes, and if they do, it might not be healthy!" Austin grinned, before finally getting a good look at the Dedenne faunus. Oh, it was a faunus. Upon this realization, Austin lit up, as if he had just had an epiphany.

"Ohhhh! I know what you are!" The look on Austin's face made it look like he were about to clap in happiness, but apparently he had some minute amount of maturity that at least kept him from doing that. "You're a faunus, so you have to be a servant, right? That means daddy sent you to help me! I knew he'd help!"

She looked over at the boy she crashed into. A human. It was her luck that she'd be partnered with one. She glared when his face lit up. However she schooled her expression as he chattered. Not only was she partnered with a human, but a rich human at that. He was going to learn that she was no servant. The sooner the better.

She calmly got up, and walked over to Oberon. Picking both halves up, she put it back to scythe form, and walked back over. With the the bitchiest and most fake smile on her face, she swung her scythe around so that one of the blades was almost grazing his neck.

"Listen up, rich fuck,"Raira started,"I am no servant. Not yours, not your Daddy's, and not anyone else's either. I am a huntress, and a damn good one at that. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with ya until ya either die, or we graduate. I don't care which comes first. Your Daddy will not rescue ya every time life gets hard. I won't either, partners or not. Ya want that, go home and be a fucking damsel in distress. If ya slow me down, I'll leave ya behind. Got it?"

Austin was all smiles throughout the entire experience, though there seemed to be a darkening effect on his features when the Dedenne put her scythe to his neck. After remaining still for a moment, Austin drew his rapier and, in one fluid motion, whacked the girl's scythe away, and stood up. Smile still plastered on his features, he turned to her, keeping his rapier drawn and at the ready.

"Alright then, fine. I don't care what you are, servant, huntress, or nothing," Austin said, slowly circling the faunus, still smiling, cheerful as ever, "But I promise you, rodent, if my father finds so much as a single scratch on me that didn't come from a grimm? He will come here, personally, and if he does, then I can't ensure that you'll ever see the light of day again, okay?" Austin punctuated the end of his statement by tilting his head to the side, his grin widening.

"Now!" Austin exclaimed, any sense of his darker demeanor dissolving into nothingness. "I'm sure I won't slow you down! But you might need to lead the way, because I'm not sure where we're going! So, let's get moving, miss..?" Austin trailed off at the end, expecting the faunus to fill in the blank with her name.

Raira glared as her scythe was pushed away, but she let it spin in her hands so that the other blade was facing the now standing human. She turned as he circled around, refusing to show her back. She tried to push away the familiar fear that came from his threat. She forced her face back into the fake smile she wore earlier, as she responded,"Ya don't have to worry about me, hun, I can hold my own."

She wasn't going to let this human out of her sight anytime soon. "Nightingale. I don't know this forest anymore than ya do, so how about we just choose a direction, and walk together?"She waved her left hand in a random direction, before it went back to join the right one on Oberon. As soon as she got back to the academy, she would see if there was a way to change partners, she figured that the answer was going to be no. However, she would have to try.

"What's your name?"She asked,"Fair's fair after all." She changed her stance to a more relaxed one. Her scythe's blades pointing away from either party. She kept her eye focused on the human in front of her, however, so that she'd be ready if he tried anything. However, this kept her from paying attention to her surrounding area.

"Well, that sounds like a good idea!" Austin exclaimed. "Actually, even though I can't remember much about what Professor Sycamore said, I think we can get info on where we need to go from our scrolls! So if we get lost, we have a backup plan!" Austin gave Raira one last seemingly innocent grin, before beginning to walk in the direction she chose, fully trusting she would follow him.

"Oh, my name?" Austin questioned as they walked. "I'm Austin Lesar! I hope that's fair enough for you, miss Nightingale!" Austin laughed to himself after he spoke, not once breaking stride. As they continued on their merry way, Austin failed to return his rapier to the holster on his hip, instead swinging it around somewhat carelessly while he walked. He seemed not to have a care in the world, which was a sharp contrast to the hefty threat he had made just moments before. They walked in relative silence for a few minutes more, before Austin saw fit to speak again.

"You know, for a faunus to want to be a huntress, you had better be pretty skilled!" Austin said, a mischievous glint in his eye. "I really hope you aren't all talk! That'd be very, very bad for both of us!"

The Dedenne followed her partner. She raised an eyebrow as he swung his weapon carelessly. She could tell that this would be a long four years. Holding her scythe in one hand, she pulled her scroll with her other. Opening it, she checked that they were on the right path, before putting it away again.

Did that tree move? Raira's head shot over to the left, seeing nothing out of the ordinary, she shook her head. She tried to convince herself that she was just jumpy after the speech Sycamore gave, and the interaction with Austin. She almost missed that Austin was still talking as she double checked the surrounding area. Better paranoid than dead, her papa always said. That was a lesson she'd rather not test. However, she did catch the "aren't all talk" and turned her attention back to the human in front of her.

"Oh, trust me, hun,"Raira started,"If I weren't a skilled huntress, I'd be dead by now. Growing up around Grimm territory kinda leaves a person skilled. I'd be more worried about yourself if I were ya. I mean, do ya even know how to use your weapon? "

Austin must have found Raira's response hilarious, because he cracked up upon hearing it. Nothing could kill this kid's mood, could it? "Alright, I believe you. You know, you're funny!" Austin paused, turning around and walking backwards as he spoke face to face with Raira. "I mean, really thinking I don't know how to use my weapon? I made it myself, you know! With a little help getting materials, of course! I promise I'll prove I can fight whenever I can-" Austin stopped speaking and walking abruptly, looking around as if he'd just noticed something. In the following silence, rustling could be heard around the duo, as if the trees themselves were making movements towards them.

"You know," Austin stated, seeming only slightly sobered by the situation, "I think I might get to prove it to you right now! I was just thinking how so many of these trees look funny… Well, just look over there!" Austin pointed off to the side, where, upon closer examination, several of the trees appeared to be stone, and others appeared to have portions of their trunks or branches levitating ever so slightly away from the rest of the tree. "I guess I should've thought it was weird when all the trees here were black, huh? Hope you're ready to fight, mousey~!"
