Crater

Two boys land in a huge, grassy clearing with an equally huge hole in the middle, a large rock smack dab in the middle. The hole is not particularly steep, but it is very wide and very devoid of plant life. The trees at the edge of the clearing are all leaning away from the hole and some are even uprooted, as if they'd been blasted away (which they had been). There are a few Beldum Grimm waffling about, and most impressive about the scene is the ring of Cleffa Grimm dancing around the rock in the middle of the crater. Be careful not to anger them, boys, as they'll do everything they can to preserve their previous meteor.

OOC: The GM for this thread is Clover. GM's will RP mook (weak) Grimm during combat, to get players used to working with a GM. The combat system will not be used for these first two threads. Please begin by RPing your landing strategy.

Have fun and happy Landing Day!

Well...this could have been going better.

He thought that he was going to have more of a chance to get a bead on Sabine or one of his other teammates before launch but after breakfast they were hustled to the locker rooms, had their weapons stuffed in their hands and were hustled out to the launch pads before Benji could get a word in edgewise or properly coordinate with Sabine on the platform.

And the launch itself had sent his plans off meeting up with her straight to hell.

Now he was spinning through the sky, twisting in the wind as he struggled find his bearings. By the time he did, Sabine was nowhere in sight and he appeared to be screaming towards...a giant rock.

That...well it could be worse but he didn't really see how.

Throwing his hand out, a shimmering blue rune opened in front of him, slowing his fall and hanging him in mid air...right above the rock...which apparently didn't make the residents happy.

"Ahh..." Benji said, glancing around at the creatures in front of him. "Well...shit."

The Cleffa Grimm stop their dance and chant, red eyes glaring up at the human who had dared to touch their precious rock. The small black balls began to hiss, bone plating doing nothing to hide the sharp teeth within their too-large mouths. They began to jump, all the while hissing and making inhuman sounds, careful not to touch the meteor. A few Beldum Grimm watched on, most of them floating closer to the commotion.

Eventually, one of the Cleffa Grimm managed to launch itself at Benji, missing by a hair's breadth, and it wouldn't take long for the others to follow its lead.

The day had finally come where he would attempt to locate someone of competence for his...partner. Ugh. Cringe at the thought. He didn't actually think he needed one, but as he'd risen that morning and was shuffled into the locker rooms with the rest of the first-years, he found he didn't exactly care. Like his father, he would find someone competent, then coordinate with another competent pair (not without some possibility of exacting some proof of their competence first, of course) and he would become the leader of a team that rose to the top of the roster among first years. He would do his father proud.

The teen closed his eyes as he'd listened the sounds of the other springboards launching the other students, some screaming at the top of their lungs, some being launched in silence, save for the clink of metal against metal. There were six other students before him. One, two, and three were silent. Four screamed. Five let out a yelp, but not much more, and six could be heard long after they'd gone, the metal adorning their bodies jingling clearly from there. He could have sworn they were a klefki faunus.

Then it had been his turn. There was an instant that his heart jumped into his throat as the springboard under him began to push, the barest hint of surprise and distress moving him along with the opposing force.

His heart thrummed, and it had taken several seconds for him to remember to breathe and simply calm down. He was not like that fourth student who had let the others hear their fear, their voice. No, the teen had kept himself quiet, and allowed himself to refocus on the issue at hand: Landing.

The boy had no glyphs, no ability to fly, nothing to facilitate his objective of not dying as he'd hit the ground. Instead, he'd readied his weapon in preparation to demolish a few trees in the endeavor of slowing himself down to a speed that would allow his aura to safely handle the rest. OR, he could be heading somewhere where there were no trees close enough together to allow that to be possible. That was also a thing that could happen.

For the second time, there was a moment of panic in the teen. He'd gotten too close to the ground, and he'd still been moving too quickly to hit the ground without either extreme fatigue or extreme injury. Possibly both. That panic had him raising his blade to bury it into the ground and cleave a line in the dirt to slow himself down. And he did, significantly, but Newton's second law could not be thwarted by any kind of rule of cool, Morningstar coming to a full stop in the ground and sending her wielder sailing over a pack of grimm and smacking right into the boy hovering just above them.

On the bright side, neither teen had come in contact with tiny grimm baby claws. On more negative notes? His sword was across the clearing....AND he was pretty sure he'd been bleeding, among other things.

Good going, skipper.

Benji was ready to disengage the glyph when something hard bumped into him, sending him gliding out of the glyph and tumbling along the top of the rock until they smacked against the ground. Half his quiver emptied and before he could register what had hit him, he had his knife unfolded and one leg on either side of the monster's-

Oh...wait, scratch that.

"You...what?" Benji said, blinking at the skinny kid on the ground beneath him. "What the hell are you-"

His line of inquiry was cut off as the viscous little midget monster waddled up to him, arms outstretched and teeth bared and ready to strike. He turned his knife away from the stranger, jamming the monster's head with one hand and driving his knife forward with the other. It lodged deep in its skull but for a few moments, the creature continued to lunge, teeth raking along his armor as Benji drove it's head into the stone with a satisfying crack.

Something the remaining Grimm apparently didn't appreciate.

"Hey if you want to help me out here, that would be great!" Benji said, unfolding his bow and glancing over the small crowd of Grimm with a grimace.

The rest of the Cleffa Grimm stared on as one of their kind was slaughtered before their soulless eyes. They began to collectively hiss as life left their kin, their boned 'ears' twitching in rage. The nearby Beldum Grimm turned towards the scene, red eyes momentarily taking on an eerie glow as they determined that the boys were threats that required eradication.

At the crackle of a branch, the Cleffa Grimm all scrambled over each other to get a first bite of the boys, still taking great care not to upset their meteor. The Beldum Grimm made no other moves, however, determined to collect information before commencing their attack.

It had taken him a moment to realize what the fuck had actually happened. Oh, yes. Physics had thwarted him, and that somersault he'd planned on doing had backfired on him utterly. Oh, lovely, there was a crack in his glasses, too. That was plea-- Oh, what? Help? He'd looked belatedly up at the boy he'd been flung into, only to have his vision obscured by one of the little pack of scorched marshmallows that took no time at all in beginning to claw at his face.

"Help. Understoo--Nngh!" He let out a grunt of pain as he'd bat the cleffa back at the undulating pile of its own kind and stood, running around the cleffas to grab Star from her in-ground sheath. If he would like to help out? Well, that was a bit relative, see....he didn't. What reason would he have had to give this boy assistance in dispatching these Grimm? Wasn't like he was the one hanging aimlessly in the pack of them. But...this did seem like the perfect opportunity to observe, he supposed. If he wasn't competent, he could easily run without a glance backward...

There were no words from the teen, simply a change in stance and two clicks of Star's cylinder. He'd cast a look at the boy across, to the grimm about the area. "Aim carefully. I do not know what the idle ones are doing." He called to the other. Arceus forbid they actually get angry an join the fray.

"Idling, by the looks of it!" Benji grunted, bouncing another Grimm off the rock with a well placed boot to the face. The little anklebiters appeared to be swarming more and more now that their buddy's brains were smeared on the side of their big black space rock thing, swarming around the pair as new species of strange metallic looking things hovered around them.

Benji sent an arrow into the throng of Cleffa before him, then threw out his hand to open two portals; one beneath the mob of Cleffa and one some fifty yards above the stone, pointing downwards to drop any who slipped through the portal straight onto the stone.

"If you have, like, some kind of big explody attack now would be the time to use it!" Benji said, booting another Cleffa into the portal as he kept an eye on floating ones

Benji's arrow hit a target, catching a Cleffa Grimm right between the eyes. It was the first of many to drop through the portal, bouncing off its beloved meteor like a limp doll and disintegrating before it even hit the ground. Many of the Cleffa that dropped through the portal landed on the rock, and the ones that didn't simply roll off began to screech and writhe in a large mass, like some really weird non-sexual orgy.

The one Benji booted onto the portal landed as if it was the cherry on top of the really weird hustling black whipped cream made of Grimm. It sat there, stunned for a moment before it, too, opened its mouth and began to scream inhumanly.

The Beldum Grimm continued to watch, intrigued, like a creepy stalker outside your window way past midnight that frequented your house all the time.

Idling...? Wasn't that what he had just said? Yes, the fact that they were idling was obvious. Was this guy stupid? Grimm didn't fucking idle for no reason. Not to mention, those eyes were fucking creepy. The teen had given the other an unimpressed look, but it had not taken long to change. This one may have been stupid, but his aim had been quite good. Color him very mildly impressed, he supposed. Whatever. Stupid ones were easier to boss around.

There was another glance out to the beldum Grimm surrounding them, but the archer's voice had caught his attention once again. Was that...an order he heard? He didn't exactly appreciate being bossed about. "Explosions? How oddly specific. Very well, then. I would get back if I were you!" It would have been a shame if he'd been someone else, but he had still done as asked, giving Star's cylinder two more clicks and aiming a shot directly into the grimm's precious rock to explode into a storm of flames and smoke. How did the lucky charms marshmallows from hell like being burned alive, then?
