"Love thy neighbor."
|
Victoria sailed lazily through the air-- Well, not so much "sailed" as "careened at high speeds through the air, readying herself to crash headlong into a thick canopy of trees". But hey, who's complaining. As she flew over the trees, her eyes scanned over the people who were flying with her. It was like window shopping for partners (except minus the windows, and plus the constant threat of death. What a joy!). Did the "eye contact" thing start now, or when she landed on the ground? She couldn't remember. She wasn't paying much attention. One of the people in her line of vision she recognized right off the back. The blonde fox girl from the cafeteria! Adina! Victoria smiled mischievously. Another psychic Faunus, and a cute one at that. Plus, she was fun to be around. Plus plus, having a healer as a partner would be incredibly useful. Perfect. Victoria vanished in an instant, reappearing at Adina's side. She picked up the Faunus princess style. "Hey there, Adina! Ye wanna be partners'r sum'n? I can get'che down real easily." She winked playfully. |

This was it, the real deal. Adina stood on the stone platforms, watching the instructors explain what was about to happen to them with a frown. So, Benji was right about how they got their teams, right down to the part where they were launched into the air. She glanced around the rows of students, spotting him several feet away. Like the others, she was ushered out to the launch zone with little time to coordinate how they were going to meet up. Shouldn't they have done that before hand? Still, even the best of plans can go awry. She sighed a bit as she pulled Lumina out from her belt, grasping it close to her chest with both hands. At this point, she didn't know what to expect-- especially when the students in front of her were suddenly thrown into the air! Adina shifted, bracing for the impact that would send her flying to a similar fate. Adina's landing strategy was simple: use her psychic dust to create a blast to cushion her fall. She was going to receive a few bruises--no doubt about that--but hopefully she would avoid something really bad, like, say a broken limb? Or being killed upon impact? Adina closed her eyes as the sound of the launching pad mechanics drew closer until the pad under her feet threw her into the air as well! With the wind stinging her eyes, it was difficult to see clearly but she could tell that the forest below her was expansive--and dense. She was about to activate her semblance, when she felt a pair of arms somehow catch her midair, followed by an all too familiar accent... "Victoria!" Adina looked up to the Abra faunus. Despite falling to the ground at an alarming speed, she couldn't help but grin a bit at Victoria's offer. "How can I resist a sweet deal like that?" She paused, before remembering that she was, in fact, falling towards the ground at an alarming speed. "But, you better do your thing soon otherwise neither of will live to see this partnership through!" |

"A'right! We'll be down in a jiffy, partner!" She laughed enthusiastically. She had scored the perfect partner. Four straight years with a very pretty lady. Victoria smirked and held Adina firmly, looking down at the canopy of trees-- woah! "INCOMING!" She gripped her partner and in an instant, the two transported to the ground. The trees were a lot taller than Victoria had originally anticipated. They were ungodly tall... Not that she could've told where the ground was from the air, since the canopy was so thick. She let Adina down, head spinning. It was so dark, like the night. Night. That sounded good. "Woah... That was a long... Sum'n... Teleportation twice. Bad move. That was a long... Way down..." With a little sigh, Victoria fell back, sitting on the underbrush. Then her entire muscular structure relaxed at once, she flopped like a ragdoll, curling up, chest rising and falling peacefully. "Mm... Gimme... A minute... Or two..." |

Adina yelped as the canopy of the forest was fast approaching, and threw her arms around Victoria's neck. And, in an instant--they were on the ground. With their feet planted firmly on ground, Adina was let down from Victoria's arm, before the latter swayed and stumbled backwards and eliciting an alarmed gasp from Adina. "Victoria--? Are you ok?" She asked, kneeling down to face level with her. Victoria had curled up, and looked like she had fallen asleep. When she asked for a minute or two of rest, Adina sighed a bit before standing up and turned, holding Lumina out in front of her. It was so dark, was that even possible for a forest to be this dark in the day? She could discern the shapes of trees and bushes and other plant life, but anything specific was lost in the black. The pouch holding her dust glowed pink, before Lumina's head began to glow as well. The head casted a faint pink light on the immediate surroundings, giving her a better idea of what their surroundings looked like... and what could possibly be lurking in them. Even as the girls had touched down into the forest, it stirred. In the darkness, no Grimm had fear of intervention, no humans to devour, nothing..but serene darkness. Before Adina had cast her light upon the wood, tiny, red pinpricks of light could be seen scattered about the area, stimulating the feeling of...being watched, and the braixen's magic had only caused the forest to stir more, pink light illuminating nearby flora and fauna alike. And the fauna was not too happy with the sudden change in ambient light. There had been what sounded like a resounding hiss from around the immediate area, and a black shadow launched itself at Adina in attempt to knock the faunus' weapon out of her hand. Even if it hadn't, its attack brought a buzzing sound that seemed to surround the pair, along with several more of the same. As the alleged Grimm moved into the light, Adina would se razor sharp, bone white mandibles clicked together as a viscous green substance took to drip from their cicada-like mouths. They looked angry. And it would have been in the Braixen's (and Abra's, had she not been snoozing) best interests to leave....now. |

Victoria stirred a bit when the forest around her began to hiss and buzz. She squeezed her eyes and rolled over to her other side. There was a rush, and a sound of struggling. What the hell was that noise?! Bugs?! Shit shit shit, anything but fucking bugs. I can't fight fucking BUGS. Pip rested against her back. She'd have to fight if she wanted to help her partner. Laying there on the ground, she summoned all the energy she had left in her body, and willed it to do something. FOR ADINA!!!! She yawned and rolled over to her other side. |

Once the light bathed the immediate area, there was an almost immediate hissing sounds which made Adina's blood turn to ice. In the pink light, she could see small, black shapes scurrying around on the forest floor: grimm, and they weren't pleased with the light. "Uh oh," Adina squeaked out, swallowing hard. "V-Victoria! You better get--!" One of the grimm launched itself at Adina, and she yelped as she fumbled to get out of its way. In a split second, she had changed her grip, bag glowing red. She pointed Lumina's head at the grimm that had just landed and blasted off a stream of fire; hopefully to roast the infernal thing out of existence. At the least, it would discourage it from flying at her again anytime soon. She could hear a growing buzzing noise around them, and swung Lumina in front of her, another fire stream following it's head, to discourage the approaching grimm from getting any closer. They looked like bug grimm, so the fire should keep them at bay...for now, anyways. She wasn't too eager to stick around to see how long, however. "Victoria!" Adina hissed, leaning back to grab her. Her hand found the crook of her partner's elbow, and began an attempt to pull her to her feet. "Get! Up! I'll carry you if I have to but--please--!" Edited by Adina, Nov 4 2014, 11:50 AM.

Victoria would've been much more distressed at the sounds of hissing and the light of the fire that burned against her eyelids, had she any ability to feel much of anything besides fatigue. Clearly, a valuable lesson had been learned... Though she was sure at some point, someone had told her to "look before you leap", she had never figured she'd have to take it literally. She made a quick mental note in her exhaust to not teleport to any location she could not see. Truthfully, Victoria despised being put in this position. Not only was it incredibly embarrassing-- After trying to put up the front of being a badass to her brand new partner, she had only managed to make an ass of herself and leave her new friend to fend for herself in a forest full of bugs-- It was also extremely uncomfortable. Even though she had spent her entire life living this way, being forced into this situation was always too vulnerable for Victoria's liking. She was trapped, too exhausted to move, speak, or react, but her mind was still awake, picking up sounds and light through her closed eyes. It was like being trapped in her own body. And being in mortal danger didn't sweeten the pot... really at all. Her mental stew was interrupted by the sharp grip of her partner's hand on her arm, pulling her up. At first, Vicky's body rose like a heavy sack, head lolling. Her ears twitched back and forth, like a sonar, picking up on the hissing and the scuttle of the bug Grimm as they approached-- fast. Her other hand reached out on instinct, grabbing her weapon, which had fallen to the ground at her side. Why did she have to pick something so heavy? Or was it heavy just because she was so exhausted? Her fingers laced around the handle and she lifted it onto her back. "Jus'keep goin'." Victoria mumbled, head still lolled. "I'msogood." She chuckled softly to herself. "Should'a mentioned th'whole... sleep thin'..." Lifting Pip onto her back, her legs bent under her, as if she were carrying a hundred pounds, and she yawned. "I'mgoin't'..." She squeezed her eyes, suppressing another yawn, "conserve as much 's I can. They're... feckin'... bugs. And I'm... ah, yer'a psychic Faunus, ye get it." |

Adina swallowed a bit at Victoria's exhausted state. How where they gonna get through the forest? She had no plans on abandoning Victoria, especially in a forest filled with bug Grimm; but she scrambled to think of a plan which said grimm closing in on them. "That probably would have been best to mention that..." Adina replied, waving another stream of fire to ward off an approaching line of bugs. "Don't worry about me! I'm just a fire type for now, they don't have much effect on me...!" There really was only one way out of this, and that was to run. "I know you're exhausted, but do you think you can run? Even for a little bit? In your state, and with my limited ammo we're not going to be able to fight them all off--" Adina paused to check for any encroaching bugs. "I can clear a path through them with the fire, but we're gonna have to be quick about it." |
