Kevin was shocked by the sudden appearance of grimm, though he probably should've expected something like that. This was the initiation to a combat academy after all. Kevin stuffed Keye's scroll into his own pocket for the time being, readying his scythe. Keye appeared to have two out of the three grimm under control, so Kevin turned his attention to the remaining one which was… Rather ineffectually floundering about. Kevin figured he'd try and end its suffering quickly. With a quick motion over the dust crystals in his scythe, Kevin created a fire glyph behind the Drillbur, angled to launch it past Kevin's side. Once the pathetic thing was sailing at high speeds through the air, Kevin held Ebony Reaper out to the side the Drillbur was heading for. With a satisfying schhhhhick, the poor grimm was cleaved in half by the waiting blade, the two pieces falling to the ground behind Kevin. "Well," Kevin said, turning around to check on Keye, "This is some welcoming committee, huh?" After he made his snide remark, Keye's previous statement finally clicked in Kevin's mind. "Wait a second, 'digging'? Was that a fucking pun?" |

His fellows hunters style of execution was certainly fancy, especially when compared to his own more brutish ways. There was a clever mind behind that monochrome exterior, and despite said colorations he probably wasn't so black and white in the mind either. A proud smile spread across his lips as he walked over and pat Kevin on the back gently with one of the dukes after the grimm had been eliminated. "Ya betcha ass it was a pun, grounded in the whimsical art of word play." Keye could hardly say he expected a different reaction from him, as was the usual response when he made jokes. "So, scroll." He pointed out, motioning to Kevs pocket. "Whats it say?" |

The remaining chunks of Grimm topple to the ground with satisfying thumps, before hissing and dissolving back into nothingness with a thin, sulfuric black mist. Gross. After a moment of peace, a nearby mangled tree starts to gently shiver, its thin leaves rattling dryly against each other while little pebbles dance against the hard, flaky stone that makes up Vertical Hell. There is a deep and rumbling hush that falls upon the huntsmen, the sound of skin gliding over stone, a few good moments of the loud yet gentle sound filling the air like a plague. Then, it stops. Its immediately evident that what made that sound was huge - but wherever, or whatever it was, though, had passed - but not left. The clattering of the stones, however, persists. Its not long until Drillbur after Drillbur start flying from the earth in a horde of Grimm, and this time their aim is far better. What caused that sound will have to wait, but the two incidents are, without a doubt, connected. |

Kevin rolled his eyes at Keye's confirmation of punship, and when he realized the other had made a pun within his admission, Kevin groaned. "Alright, I get it. And the scroll, right. Shit, I didn't see anything when I looked last time, let me check…" Kevin began to reach for the scroll in his pocket when the ground began to rumble, the sound of some… Some thing moving past. Kevin was deathly silent until the sound subsided, for fear of attracting whatever creature could possibly have caused that. It definitely didn't sound friendly, that was for sure. "What the fuck..?" Was all Kevin managed to utter, before more Drillbur began popping out of the ground, lunging at the duo. As this happened, Kevin simply muttered, "Shit," before readying his scythe in front of him. First order of business was to deal with the oncoming attack. So, without a moment's hesitation, Kevin quickly created a psychic glyph in front of himself and, glancing back at Keye, created another in front of him. Hopefully that would result in any Drillbur lunging at them to harmlessly pop out on the other side (and possibly collide headfirst with some other grimm), making them easy targets once they ended up disoriented. |

There was only a brief moment of panic in Keye when the rumbling came before an excited and twisted smile made its way across Keyes lips. Whatever had made that sound was big, and he wanted to fight something big. Something big and nasty to really prove the lethality of the Dukes, or die trying as it may be. He hoped for the former. "Small fries." Keye grumbled, raising his fists. He had been about to lung before Kevins portal appeared before him, tossing the burrowing monsters out the other side. "Ah, nifty." A grim from the side drew his attention, and he quickly backhanded it away. They either seemed to be getting smarter, or attacking sparodically enough that they weren't all going to get funneled into the tunnel. Before he could continue to wonder, one pounced on him from behind, warranting a panicked yelp from him. "Shit shit shit!" The second joint in the mechanical arms allowed him to reach back, and quickly he grabbed the mole, yanking it off and getting scratched up on the sides pretty easily. His body suit was a thick leather but even that didn't seem to hold up too terribly well against these things. At least he could manage healing himself, albeit it slowly. "Kev, can ya get us ta higher ground?" The Duke's servos whined as the grip crushed down on the mole grimm, shattering a majority of its bones before Keye threw it. |

Drillby was but a tiny Drillbur, part of his tiny Drillbur clan, of his tiny Drillbur network. He lived a normal, underground Drillbur life, feeding off of the residual negative emotions pooling from Kalos Academy, until quite suddenly a lot of thumping came from above. Drillby, you see, wasn't a very old Grimm, so with the very hint of disappointment from Kevin he begun to dig up, up, up for quite some time to the surface in hopes of meeting this new 'friend'. When he bounded from the surface, the little Grimm was only airborne for a few seconds, before finding himself on the other side of Kevin, and falling down, down, down the side of Vertical Hell for quite some time, before making a tiny thwump when he hit the ground. Drillbraham wasn't having a very happy day either, roaring his tiny roar while being wholeheartedly crushed by Keye's gigantic metal yaoi hands. He thought that for sure, attacking from behind would be a good idea, but yet there Drillbraham was - being turned into Drillbur Jelly. But Keye was right - they are getting smarter. The Drillbur were starting to act as a pack, one lunging in straightforwards to take the brunt of an attack, while another feigned around to take advantage of a new weak spot. Despite their weak numbers, the plan seemed good enough for them. Reguardless, they seemed to have no idea what a Glyph was, and another tumbled through Kevin's ploy. |

Kevin was glad his defensive maneuver was working, though being open on the sides was a bit of a problem. Upon noticing that one of the Drillbur had actually gotten through and hit Keye, Kevin began thinking of an alternate solution, because this wouldn't last very well at all. At Keye's request for higher ground, Kevin gave an affirmative nod, quickly glancing around to see if he could discern a good place to aim for. Soon, he spotted a cliff a decent distance away, and tightened his grip on Ebony Reaper, before giving Keye brief warning. "Alright, hang onto your ass and pray to whoever your personal god is!" Kevin exclaimed, before collapsing the psychic glyphs. As soon as they were gone, Kevin created a fire glyph beneath his and Keye's feet, angled to launch them towards the top of the cliff. The blast was practically instantaneous, launching them away from the oncoming grimm. He made sure that the glyph was gone before any of the grimm could get caught up in it and end up coming after them. Kevin and Keye spent a few minutes airborne, before they both crashed onto the cliff, Kevin rolling a bit, before managing to shakily jump to his feet. The landing could have been better, but the execution beforehand was spot on, in his opinion. He quickly went over to check on Keye, just in case his landing possibly cause any damage. "Hey, you alright?" Kevin asked, leaning over Keye as he lay on the ground. |

"That wasn't enough time for a prayer!" Keye yelled, albeit it not much of a prayer as it was. Another wonderful bout of airborne activity before he hit the ground somewhat hard. He'd caught himself slightly and eased the landing some. Lucky they really didn't 'fall' to far once they had reached the peak of their launch. There was a moment of pause after they'd landed, and Kev had asked about Keyes condition. "Oye..." He mumbled, pausing. "...AW GOD, KEV!" Keye yelled, snapping into a higher alertness as he looked around. "MY SHADES, WHERE'D THEY GO!?" During the landing, or at least he hoped during the landing, his shades seem to have flown off. Now would be an easy time to spot the inhuman coloration of his eyes and the dark rings around them. |

Kevin's breathing hitched when he heard Keye shout, immediately assuming the worst, such as a broken bone or something of the sort. However, he was relieved when he heard that the only thing amiss was the other's glasses. "Fuck," Kevin breathed, recovering a bit, "You scared the shit out of me. I thought there was something worse than just your glasses going missing. Look, I'm sure they're nearb-" Kevin paused abruptly when he actually looked at Keye's face and noticed that there was something not quite right about the other's eyes. Upon closer examination, Kevin came to the only logical conclusion: Keye was a faunus. Halle-fucking-lujah. Aside from the brief flash of realization across his eyes, Kevin didn't have a very apparent reaction to this development. Though he did figure he should probably check what kind of faunus Keye was, just to have a better grasp of the typing they had to throw against grimm. "Ohhhh, you're a faunus?" Kevin started, totally unperturbed by the observation. "Alright, cool, that's actually pretty damn good to know." Kevin smiled, before continuing. "Uh, I'm having a hard time figuring out though, what kind? It might be good to know your typing depending on what grimm we end up going against, you know? Weaknesses and advantages and all that good shit." Kevin crossed his arms, looking up at the taller male. |

Keye looked around as Kevin talked, hoping his sunglasses weren't too far. Sure he could see without them, but everything was pretty bright. It probably wouldn't hurt to spring for a string to keep them attached or something. Those looked nerdy though. "Ey?" Keye snapped out of thought and looked in Kevins direction again. "Ah, Croagunk faunus. Poison n' fighting." Standing himself up he kept one of the dukes over him to shade his view. It was getting pretty warm out, due in no small part to his largely dark toned suit. Which really made Keye wonder how Kevin was handing the heat. "Kev, over there!" He said, spotting his shades. "I cannot for the life a' me pick 'em up." With a shrug and slight wave he emphasized the Dukes. "Can ya get 'em for me? I'll cover you." He stated with a smile. |
