Sabine was worried. She glanced down the line of aspiring hunters for the audacious archer, Benji. They had planned to partner up but without any information about how the launch day events were going to proceed, it appeared more difficult by the second to honour that promise. Instinctively, she placed a hand over her thigh to make sure Crown was still safely attached to its harness. Sabine looked to her left, where a taller huntress clad in white leather and light bronze plate looked exceptionally terrified. “It’s okay,” she offered compassionately, “I’m scared too.” Unexpectedly, the other girl gave Sabine a bewildered look that was utterly patronising before informing her she was not scared at all. The quail grit her teeth and stared back to the forest sprawling for miles in front of her. That was the last time she tried to be nice to anyone in this fucking academy. “Peridot, ready yourself.” Double checking the bindings of her archers glove and chest protector, Sabine recalled Benji’s hurried words about trajectory and the vicinity she should aim for. Her training uniform stood as a proud and colourful red hakama detailed with yellow flowers now tied tight around her small waist, over her black and green kimono. Benji wouldn’t be able to miss her. With a hiss of mechanics, Sabine was catapulted into the air, easily twisting her body in the direction she wanted. The air had always been kind to her like that, despite her light weight sometimes being affected by the most minute of wind changes. Craning her neck to see the red and black garbed archer, an unexpected gust of wind sent the quail flinging in a completely different direction. Sky and forest spinning in her field of view, Sabine forced herself not to panic, sharp fearful breaths in her ears. As much as she tried, the quail was not able to re-stabilize herself and after a near minute of tossing and turning in the air, she crashed into the water, thick liquid slowing her spin. With no chance to have taken a breath, Sabine scrambled to the surface, gulping for air and coughing out any which had foreignly entered her nose or mouth. Well this is going fucking great already, isn’t it? Sabine slowly began to swim to shore, avoiding the floating fish carcasses and other disgusting matter littering the waters. She made a noise in disgust, thankful for her strong-constitution and kept her eye on the shore. |

Mitch should have been worried. The realization that they were about to be flung off of a cliff into the vast expanse of trees, water and clearings should have been terrifying. But it wasn't. It wasn't at all. Mitch paid no attention to the people next to them, focusing on their goal of finding a soft place to land. Initial surveliance of the area gave no real information as to where to direct themselves, so Mitch just settled on waiting until they were in the air. A student next to Mitch, the one slated to launch before them, looked at Mitch and sneered. This strange verbal gesture caused Mitch to look at the student confused, before the student practically hissed at them, preparing to say something before -sproing- being launched screaming. Mitch looked at the student flail through the air, curious as to what they were going to say. It didn't matter, however. And the most important thing was to not faceplant on the ground somewhere. Mitch tensed their muscles and felt the panel quiver underneath them, before flinging them off with a mighty thrust. Before they really knew it, they were soaring through the air, wind blowing their hair about. It took a small bit for Mitch to find their bearings, but somewhere in the distance there was a lake. A body of water actually provided the safest route of landing, and ever so convienently there was a gust of wind blowing in that direction. Lady Luck could not have smiled any brighter. Mitch fanned out their body to allow themselves to be taken by the current of wind before folding back up into a neat high dive pointed directly at the body of water. There was only one shot at this and it either resulted in broken hands or perhaps one of the the cleanest landings in school history. Just before the impact point Mitch fired off a pulse of his semblance, using the normal dust they kept in their gauntlet for emergencies. The pulse broke the tension in the water and Mitch entered cleanly shortly afterwards, diving deep into the lake. It even seemed to be deep enough for them to not reach the bottom. It took what felt like entirely too long for Mitch to make their way through the apparent grime of the lake. Opening their eyes underwater burned, so they settled on closing them until they reached the surface. Mitch surfaced after an internal eternity and rewarded themselves with a long gasp of breath. Or several short and puffy gasps of air. It tasted gross and disgusting, probably because the air was tainted with the water, but it was air. Had they really been underwater that long? Mitch finally opened their eyes and scanned the area surrounding them, noticing that there was... somebody else in the water. Noting the instructions they had been given by the headmaster, Mitch began swimming at a rapid pace over in the direction of the other person in the lake. Mitch didn't really care who this was. A partner was a partner. "Hey!" Mitch called in between gasps of air while swimming, "Wait up!" Edited by Melody and Cassidy, Jun 2 2015, 11:23 PM.

Food. The ripples on the surface of the lake woke the inky black shapes that slithered around beneath the surface. Blue, flashing eyes glinted up at the pair of kicking legs as a long, slender pair of bodies shook the silt and sand off their backs and swam towards the surface. They brushed past the kicking legs once, winding around a few times to get a feel for the girl. Then a pair of heads broke the surface, white fangs glinting, head fins flaring and a low primal growl slithering from their throats. Tip to tail they were three and a half feet of pure reptilian muscle, coated in hard, shimmering black and white scales that glimmered in the light bouncing off the waves as the prepared to attack. |

Fuck, fuck, fuck! Something just slithered all over her legs! Sabine just reached the shallow littered waters in a scramble as she heard an unfamiliar voice asking her to wait up. She tilted her head down a tad to flick her eyes back at the the other hunter. A flicker of olive and green paddling towards her. Not Benji. They hadn't locked eyes yet. She needed to buy herself some time. Her hand flew under the skirt of her hakama and revealed the collapsed compound bow, jerking it open with a satisfying snap. The quail stood and swung around, keeping the other hunter in only her peripheral view as she saw the eyes of Grimm which must have swam right past her earlier. Sabine quickly nocked a Gale Dust tipped arrow, aiming it at the bare surface between the other hunter and the Grimm, closer to the monsters. The arrow was loosed into the water to hopefully create a gust inside the water which would hopefully push the hunter far away from her. Shaking off her shoes a little, the quail started running across the narrow stretch of rock and stand, away from the hunter. She nocked an Impact tipped arrow, drawing back and coming to a pause to focus her aim on the Grimm. Edited by Sabine and Tilly, Jun 3 2015, 12:12 AM.

It all happened in an instant. Some splashing water that signaled the appearance of creatures known as Grimm, very few of which Mitch had actually fought. Surprisingly, they were going after the other hunter, approaching her and sounding off some particularly distressing rumble. Mitch would just have to help her then. As Mitch went to draw their blade from the holster on their backs, something splashed into the water somewhat near them. They shielded their eyes from the splash as they now sat stationary in dangerous waters, and felt a rising current bellow from where the impact was. A rush of energy burst forth from the water and sent a large wave in all directions from the impact point. The aim of the other huntress was true and Mitch was propelled away from her... But also closer to a shore. Mitch crashed into a nearby outcropping of land with a small thud, resulting in them rubbing their back as they struck the land rather awkwardly. But, they were on land now. She seemed to be leaving, and Mitch briefly considered turning the opposite direction. Orders were orders however, and Mitch drew their blade to prepare for battle against the demonspawn that were approaching the huntress. They couldn't quite tell what they were, but they looked like small lizards. The fins reminded them of something specific, but Mitch didn't have the time to mull and choose a dust type. Mitch took the normal crystal from their gauntlet and inserted it in their sword, before closing the distance on the other huntress. She was definitely an archer. And definitely a faunus. The small headfather pointed her out as a Natu faunus, and Mitch took note of this immediately. Instead of asking for permission, Mitch simply looked at the huntress before looking at the long scaly snake thing. Mitch moved as close to the shore as they possibly could before pointing their blade at the creature, bisecting it and firing a normal typed pulse at it, aiming to knock it out or something. |

The crashing waves sent some of the small red and black sea-serpents scattering but the ones who regained their wits pursued their prey with even greater fervor. A lone Dratini wriggled up on shore, arching and snapping rows and rows of razor sharp teeth at the Natu Faunus as the human was ignored until the hot kiss of their beam weapon collided with its back. The smell of burning fish filled the air as the weapon sliced through it clean, cauterizing the wound before black blood could spill onto the rocks. The head turned to look at the human who had ended it, lunging feebly with the last vestiges of its strength before collapsing on the rocks, tongue lolling out of its mouth, dead. In the water, a small mass of Dratini wriggled and churned, waiting for the waves to subside before they attempted to swim towards land... |

Crud. Whoever they were, they were fast and persistent. Sabine tried to put even more distance between her and the other hunter by withdrawing the arrow a few inches and running a few more yards up the circular shore. She paused once more and drew the Impact arrow before realising one of the Grimm had wriggled ashore, gnawing and snapping at her. An Impact arrow at point blank might as well have been a blank cheque for death for all of them. The quail rolled the fletching between her middle and ring finger, reaching back to quickly nock a plain carbon arrow. Before she could loose it at the Grimm's head, a near blinding beam of light seared through the monster and she vaulted back a yard instinctively. An impressive, albeit flashy move. Without thinking, Sabine followed it's final gaze, coming eye to eye with the exact person she had been avoiding. "Fuck," Sabine chirped bluntly. More sound of movement from the waters let her know that she could fret about partners in a moment. Sabine flicked her fingers to switch the arrows in her hand, swivelled the top half of her body to draw, aim and loose the Impact arrow into the center of the Grimm swarm. She turned back to give the other hunter a wincing I'm-better-than-you smile, hopefully with an monumental explosion in the water behind her. Quickly drawing the carbon arrow, still in her hand, she aimed it at the other hunter's left eye, acting as if she were about to let it go, despite having a firm and practiced grip on the fletching. "Who are you?" she demanded, "Speak or perish." Edited by Sabine and Tilly, Jun 3 2015, 08:33 AM.

The Dratini offshore had their assault stopped by a flying arrow loaded with powerful Dust they could not reasonably defend against. The cluster was bunched so tightly together that the arrow's impact radius struck them all, sending a wave of water stained black and dripping with alien organs washing up the shore and over the legs of the hunters staring at one another. Somewhere, far in the distance, the sound of the explosion stirred something deep in its nest... |

Mitch's eyes flickered to the mass of black snakes coursing through the water before a rough explosion hit the center of the mass. The waves crashing up on the shore from the explosion of the lake contained... incredible amounts of black alien matter that was dissolving as it wiggled its way around the shore. Mitch sidesteped the incoming tide and turned to look at their now aggressor. They found a bow drawn directly at their face, their left eye to be particular. At this range, if the huntress let go, Mitch would be forever blind in one eye. And the huntress would also be likely expelled and put in jail. She would likely not be able to make any sudden moves, but she was being demanding. Mitch raised the bisected blade they held in their right hand and pointed it directly at the huntress. She likely had no idea that it wouldn't be as effective on the grimm as it would be on her face, but it made for a solid even field. "Mitch Barnes. Hunter in training." They answered evenly, the dust conversion core in the blade humming quietly. There was still no way they could react fast enough to fire if the girl loosed her arrow, so Mitch just had to hope she'd lower her weapon. "I've no idea why you're pointing your weapon at your new partner, but I suppose this is how you greet people in Kalos? I wouldn't know. I've never been." The tone Mitch used was slightly sarcastic, as they couldn't believe this was actually standard procedure. But they had been told Kalos was pretty backwater...
