Wishing Well

This particular duo lands in an area that looks a little too hand crafted to be normal. The forest surrounding them is normal, plenty of trees to land on [or crash into, whatever floats your boat]. But there is one particular structure that stands out of place, a wishing well. It's fairly old looking, the stones covered in moss. If you peek inside of the wishing well, you'll see there's actually a bunch of coins down there. The string for the bucket is completely broken, and the bucket lies at the bottom on top of a pile of coins.

The real question is, is this actual money? It could be a trap, it could not be a trap. There's really only one way to find out.

The area directly around the wishing well is lightly surrounded by small black feline shapes, seemingly attracted to shiny things. Perhaps they wait for people to make wishes before killing them and stealing their money. In the adjoining forest, inky serpents with sharp white bones for tails lie in wait. It's a more dangerous area than it appears.

The GM for this thread is Brandon. GM's will RP mook (weak) Grimm during combat, to get players accustomed to working with a GM. The combat system will not be used for these first two threads.
Have fun and happy Landing Day!

As a person with no in-flight capabilities and minimal equipment, Celeste Wilson was completely without a landing strategy. She had spent the pre-flight time contemplating the different strategies and options depending on what her surroundings would be like when she arrived, never wanting to be without proper planning. But now, as she plummeted through the air, her options dwindled until she was without any plans at all.

Her pistol and sword were not thick or well equipped enough to handle slowing her fall, so that plan was out. There were no trees any higher than any others, so no place she could aim herself. That plan was out too. She could always use her sword against the tree trunks, but there was likely not enough length in the trees to soften the fall that much. And she had just gotten her sword sharpened and polished. It was a good back-up plan though.

No bodies of water, no snow. No random flying Grimm to grab ahold of. Nothing but herself, the rushing wind, her newfound friend, and the inevitable broken skeletal structure she was probably going to obtain once she hit the ground if she didn't come up with something quickly.

Melissa seemed to have it a little easier. Celeste assumed that her wings would make a convenient landing strategy, but they were small and long. Certainly no wings for carrying another fully grown woman.

"So..." She called out over the screaming wind, brushing the hair that was blowing into her eyes out of the way. "You wouldn't happen to have, say, a grappling hook hidden somewhere on you, huh? My choices are running pretty dry."

Ah, launch day. There was a particular electricity in those words. Maybe the importance of this initial exam? Maybe it was the fact that the next four years of her life would be decided within the next few hours? Maybe it was that the uncertainty had been eased somewhat with the prospect of her partner-to-be? Well, whatever that feeling was, it was a good one. Melissa was excited, unlike many of the students that had been shuffled into the locker rooms with her. Out of the small number of students near her, she seemed to be the only one that didn't seem to be feeling a particular sense of dread. ( She could have sworn she saw a pair or two of envious eyes at her wings... )

Meeting up with Celeste wasn't hard. Melissa made a point of it to hover close enough to the girl so that they would be shuffled next to each other upon launch. In regards to Sycamore's speech, she paid little attention, instead focusing on the time that they were shot into the air. There were two students before her. One, two....then her. The blonde let out a loud, but clipped squawk at the sudden movement and little, prickling pain of a few feathers being yanked out by the air resistance.

But for now, she had to figure out how to get herself (and Celeste, by the looks of it) to the ground. As she'd begun falling, it was still entirely too fast for her to begin using her wings. They were really only good for gliding at the moment...and she hadn't really practiced the whole 'divebombing' thing. She was much more graceful than that. The blonde gave a small smile to her new partner as she'd finally removed Apollon from its scabbard with one hand and hooking an arm around Celeste's waist with the other. "Don't worry, love~ I've got a plan~!"

In the next few seconds, Melissa's rapier glowed a bright, clear blue, and she'd whipped it upward, strong gust of wind from seemingly nowhere catching on the taller blonde's wings and slowing the two down enough so that she could allow for a slower (and much more graceful) landing into a small gap in the trees. When they'd gotten low enough, Melissa put her blade away, opting instead to lower her partner by her arms so that she'd touched ground first, and, with a couple of beats of her wings, Melissa securing a dainty landing a few feet away.

"...Nailed it~" Was the small whisper from the blonde as she'd touched ground.

It took a moment, but Melissa turned to approach her new partner once again, smiling. "I think we did pretty well, don't you~?"

Celeste landed to the ground neatly, her boots brushing effortlessly against the grass. Quickly, she adjusted her hair back to its well-kept style, slightly wind-swept from the descent.

"Pretty well is an understatement, though I hardly think 'we' did anything. That was all you, man. Thanks. I may or may not owe you my life already. My fighting style doesn't really mesh well with 'broken legs'." She chuckled dryly. Looking around, Celeste couldn't pinpoint anything in particular that stuck out to her. Just in case of any sudden combat, Celeste drew Glace Mordante and Grêle, both preloaded with dust. She cocked the barrel of Grêle, scanning through the trees. So far, so good. So far, anyways.

"The only thing I saw up ahead that looked useful was a small gap. I don't know if that was meant to be important or not. Did you see anything worth looking at? So far it's all well-trimmed, equally high trees. Which, aesthetically, is on point. Not so great from a navigational standpoint though. What exactly are we looking for again?"

Melissa couldn't help but giggle at the praise, wings fluffing themselves in light of it. She'd pulled Apollon from his place at her waist once again as she'd closed the distance between herself and Celeste, casting a look around the area. "Well, it's good that neither of us are planning on accessorizing with them any time soon. Wheelchairs are only cute when you don't have training to do~"

She gave a small shrug as she cast another look around, but quickly stopped as her gaze fell to her left. Was that...a well? "Well, I'll give the gardeners points for this place being as trim as it is. Didn't think this was possible in the woods...but it looks like there's a well over this way?" The taller of the two made to stroll toward it, beckoning her partner along. "As for what we're looking for, um..." She...wasn't exactly listening. "I...do not remember! It was something about relics! So...a well is sort of a relic...? Right? It's worth checking out, don't you think?"

Celeste took a small moment to toy with the notion of wheelchairs looking cute--no wheelchair she had ever come in contact with personally were horribly sad, rather than cool, but then again, that was only her experience--before turning to see where her partner was looking. Just beyond the carefully trimmed trees was a small stone well, covered in moss. The small structure was far less put together than the surrounding forestry. From what she could see, it looked a bit run down. Was there even a string on it?

The uniformity of the trees versus the authentic shabbiness of the well raised at least a little suspicion. Perhaps that was where they were supposed to go after all. In all honesty, Celeste didn't remember much of what Professor Sycamore was saying before the launch. Most of her attention was put towards forming as many landing strategies as possible, which of course turned out to be completely useless.

"Something about... dice? Though it seems weird to make a bunch of students go hunting in the woods for something that... I dunno, trivial. You'd think we'd be searching for statues or gemstones or Grimm skulls or ancient tomes. Something a little more romantic. But maybe that's just me."

She pulled out the chambers of Grêle, double-checking her current stock. Her sword was consistently equipped with the standard Pure, Tundra, and Tide dust, but the bullets she chose changed constantly. The bullets were loaded with Shock Powder... a good bet. The only real trouble those bullets would run into would be Ground Grimm, but they were hardly a problem. Not for an Ice Huntress. With a quick click, she reinserted the chamber and placed her finger on the hammer, ready to fire at the sight of danger.

Too much thinking. Not enough action.

"It's worth a shot, I think." She chuckled. "Come on, what's the worst that can happen?"

"Dice...?" Melissa parroted, blinking down at her partner. "You mean like...board games, dice?" Celeste was right. What the hell kind of school made dice a relic? The blonde made a face. She sincerely hoped that she wasn't going to have to play some geeky board game to decide the other half of her team. Combat school always did make a point to keep the launch day exam pretty mysterious. "That's...yeah...weird." She'd sighed, though, instead of dwelling on the disparity between the risk and reward, walking with her partner toward the well with a flourish.

"You must find...some dice!!" She squawked, trying her best to mimic Sycamore's accent. "And when you find your dice, you shall have a battle of luck and wits with your teammates-to-be! Facing off in a deadly battle of Monopoly! Oui, oui, mez amis, you must be terribly excited to play board games after risking your lives, but fear not! There will be extra stakes involved! You'll be using real money!" She snorted. As they approached the well, the blonde made to look into it, brows furrowed. It wasn't a particularly deep well. In fact, she could still make out the pile of coins at the bottom, as well as the bucket sitting atop it.

"I don't think any dice would be down there....Neither of us would be able to fit...or get back up, for that matter." She murmured. "Bonus points for the craftsmanship, though...and I think we could probably make a wish in here. Might be the bit of romance we'd need to add to this, hmm, partner?"

Celeste pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh too loud. She quickly followed her partner to the well, combing her hair with her finger to fall in front of her nose and eye.

"But that's not all, dear students!" She responded, putting on her best Diantha voice. Damn, she was shit at this. "You will defeat hoards of Grimm using only the board piece you've chosen! Fighting off Grimm with only tiny thimbles and shoes... this will be your-- and your team's-- legacy! ... Nah, I'm no good at impressions. I'll do Sycamore next time, the French is way easier."

Glancing down into the well, Celeste was genuinely surprised at the sheer amount of coins at the bottom. She spent a small moment contemplating whether or not she was actually too large to go down and take the money at the bottom before deciding against it.

"Yeah, I'll cast a wish alright. I wish I had that much cash at all! I must confess, I am the glamorous product of a lower-middle class mess." She chuckled, reaching into her pockets and pulling out a small 1p coin. It was quite literally the only money she had on her. Most of it was stored back at the school, and even that was not much. Most of the money she had for the month was spent on a surplus of Dust, which she now had stored in a small belt hidden under her sweater. "That kind of cash could get a lot of Dust. And a really nice scarf. And maybe a more breathable pair of gloves. She glanced down at her free hand, stretching the soft leather. "These ones are getting old, and the ones I wear to bed aren't functional for battle."

"Close your eyes..." She closed her eyes for a moment. Smooth sailing for three years. No problems. And maybe some new gloves.

She tossed the coin in.
