The ego that the Scrafty faunus, now that Drake knew what he was, had for himself got a smile out of the Espeon faunus, the cheeky smile making Drake's grin all the wider. In spite of the cloud that hovered over him, he couldn't help but chuckle at Miles's ego. "The coolest one for sure," Drake confirmed. "Out of one. I hope you realize that's not as great of a compliment as it seems on the surface." He tilted his head as Miles asked about his semblance, the points of his tail flicking until he snorted as Miles mentioned mind reading. "No, no, my semblance about predicting move--" Drake stopped, staring at Miles's mouth when something... black came out of it? Was that... Miles's tongue? No, Drake was mistaken, clearly, though he found himself squinting at Miles's lips and steadily watching him talk as their conversation drew to a close. The projects? Drake's ear flicked, his gaze narrowing as he focused on the lizard. The similarities between the two were growing... Drake made a mental note for later, a growing list to ask Miles. It was becoming uncanny at this point, though it was also putting him at ease. Someone else who had a taste of the rough life. His gaze widened, tail flicking and ears perking as Miles leaned in closer, leaving him confused as to what the other faunus could be doing until Miles whispered about cats and licking themselves. Drake's tail fluffed out, he spluttered for a few good seconds and then growled as Miles barely bit back his laugh. "You... damn you!" Drake huffed, and quickly stood up to hide his growing blush, feeling it trying to creep down his neck. "Cats don't-- I'm a cat faunus, not a-- oh just stuff it!" Drake was fully intending to ignore Miles when he spoke about the figs, wanting to give the faunus a taste of the silent treatment for the comment, though he couldn't when Miles mentioned Tony. "Tell him I said hello," Drake said. "And to enjoy the figs." He still wanted to look away, but Miles gave him a look that could melt butter, and Drake's pissy attitude faded in Miles's baby blues. Only now did he understand that phrase. He was still looking even when Miles broke eye contact, and his parting words left Drake feeling warm. The exhaustion of the past few days was diminished by the heartfelt words, and a purr drifted from Drake's throat before he could stop himself. Maybe he had stopped looking for kindness since the incidents at this school, and Miles had proven his pessimism wrong. He tried to find something to say, but this tongue felt too rough, too cold and uncaring. Drake switched to Orrean before he realized it, "You have been far kinder to me than I deserve. I wish I could tell you but I'm a coward." A smile, vulnerable, flickered onto Drake's face before he looked at the setting sun. "Thank you, asawet," Drake rumbled, the old Orrean word appearing on his tongue before he realized it. "I'll see you soon I imagine. Until then." Drake inclined his head to the other and walked away, though he cast a glance over his shoulder at the Scrafty faunus. Someone who had lived on the rougher side of life, who had survived on the skin of their teeth, who had watched Drake in a way that made his armor seem... invisible. They had more in common than the Espeon faunus had thought possible. |
