Tilly was in awe. Jonas crafted the story so well it was like she had been in that room herself. Of course she had watched the match herself on a different continent. She usually had to wait a day to for reruns since Unovan fight events started at 11pm Kalosian time but her parents made a special exception for the big fight. Suraiya and Rajvir were both on call that night and brought Tilly into the department, allowing her to sleep in the barracks once the fight was over. She was so excited, she filled her backpack with books, toys and her favourite constellation blanket. When it was time for the fight, everyone in the station packed into the surveillance room to watch on a small monitor meant for CCTV footage. Even people who didn't watch or even like World Championship Fighting had to see. It was that monumental. Tilly sat on her mother's shoulders, watching with bated breath, hoping with all her might that Hector would come out on top. She remembered another officer who'd put a thousand dollars down on Suzuki and all the horrible things he shouted at the TV about Hector until her father punched him and the whole room cheered. Then Hector did the impossible and.. magic. There was crying and cheering and hugging. Rajvir brought both her and her mother in for a tight hug and it was like the world melted away as she was squished between her mum and dad. It wasn't just his win. It was a win for anyone across the whole who'd ever felt stepped on or not good enough. There was so much celebration that night that she didn't go to bed until two o'clock in the morning, after everything came to a halt when a moderate level Grimm threat was pinged at the East Wall. If she'd never gone to seek out that Garchomp, she would have never been grounded from excursions. If she never got the ankle bracelet put on her, she wouldn't have come out to sketch in the courtyard while the school was empty. She would have never bumped into Jonas. She wouldn't be having this conversation right now. Somehow it made risking her life to see the Grimm all worth it. Arceus certainly did work in mysterious ways. Tilly looked up to the Blitzle Faunus, hands pressed against her cheeks, giant globules of tears soaking her face. While the urge to hug him was strong, her feet were rooted to the ground as a concoction of powerful emotions overwhelmed her. "He must be so proud of you. I would be," she sobbed uncontrollably, covering her face to sniff and hiccup with embarrassment, wishing she could just turn into liquid and melt through the ground. Jonas didn't quite know what to say to that and knew how to deal with crying girls even less. He was sure Jason must've had a litany of tricks and tactics to resolve a situation like this favorably but Jonas' upbringing hadn't really equipped him for that. His life skill set was remarkably...one note as he was beginning to realize. "Well...here's hoping," Jonas shrugged, stretching his arms out awkwardly. "I gotta...get back to it, you know. Big fight coming up...I think." There was something his uncle wasn't telling him...it didn't sit quite right but Conan never brooked any questioning. He would just have to trust that his uncle knew what he was doing... "Thanks for the uh...water," Jonas finished after a moment. "Hope that bird makes his way back..." |
