Good compacts include the Canon S100, Panasonic LX5 (my previous camera before my current Sony), Canon G11 or G1X (big sensor but $800), Nikon P7000/P7100.

If I were you, stay away from the Nikon P7000, there are issues with the P7000 but if you're going to purchase, try the P7100. It is the same exact version and has all the same bells and whistles as the P7000 but all issues are fixed. I have one (the P7000) and it's been sent in for repairs already once within the first 3 months of purchase (purchased in Nov 2011). Nikon knows about the issues and have been upgrading the software (that's what they did with mine). It's starting to act up again and might be going back to Nikon Repair Center for repairs soon if it continues to act up. I do like, love this camera. It's a great camera when I don't feel like using the DSLR and produces nice images along with 720p High Def Quality Video. I've been using this more lately. You want something heavy or light? You could always stick with what you already had if ur happy with the results. The camera you got now does take some nice pics. You can always purchase and test them (however I would ask the retailer you're buying from what their return policy is-they may have a 2 week return policy and might only give you credit on your return. It never hurts to ask). Edited by FollowThatBus!, Feb 29 2012, 12:10 AM.

at one point in time I had something heavy but it was a royal pain in the ass to carry around, I dont mind what I have now its starting to act up now though I guess the few bumps I gave it are starting to catch up to it, I really can't afford nothing too expensive |
