I DON'T NEED AN AVATAR FOOTBALL HEAD!
|
Here I will analyze the characters of the show and what I think about them. Arnold: Arnold is a character who feels different in the later seasons than the earlier ones. In Season 1, Arnold had a lot of imagination scenes, but later seasons didn't keep it. In general, Arnold's goal in life is to make sure everyone does the right thing. Although he doesn't know that Helga likes him (excluding the movie) he does think she's deep down a good person. However, unlike most people, I don't think Arnold has a crush on Helga. He never really acts like he does at all, however, I do think he possibly could later in his life. Arnold is a pretty good protagonist, but he isn't one of my favorite characters, mostly because he's kind of boring in the later seasons. I liked his Season 1 incarnation the most. Helga: Helga is definitely an interesting character to talk about, because of how she acts. On the outside, she comes off as a mean bully, but in the inside, she's definitely a nice person. Helga's crush on Arnold is definitely crazy, and she'll do anything to keep him from finding out. In general, Helga's episodes usually deal with either her family life or her crush on Arnold. Helga is definitely my favorite character on the show, and IMO, probably the best animated character of all time. Gerald: Gerald is Arnold's best friend. He has a mean older brother, Jamie O, and an annoying little sister, Timberly, neither of which I really like. He also seems to have a thing for Phoebe, and he is a keeper of many urban legends. Gerald is alright, but isn't one of my personal favorites. Grandpa Phil: Grandpa Phil is a very funny character. He may not be as strange as Gertie, but I feel like he has funnier quotes. As a child, he was bullied by Gertie, ("Girl Trouble" is where this happens) but eventually learned Gertie likes him, and they eventually married. This here is likely what will happen in the future with Arnold and Helga. He also has had a lot of his family die at 91, and he doesn't like his sister very much. Grandma Gertie: Grandma Gertie, along with Grandpa Phil, are the show's funniest characters IMO. Gertie often mixes up holidays, and has a lot of bizarre costumes. As a child, she had a crush on Phil, but acted like a jerk to him, much like how Helga does to Arnold. Gertie might have had a bad childhood, due to her similarities as a child to how Helga acts. Phoebe: Aside from Helga and maybe Patty, Phoebe is my favorite female character on the show. Phoebe has two big characteristics: her loyalness to Helga and her intelligence. She also seems to like Gerald, and a lot of people ship them together. Me personally, I like Phoebe mostly because her relationship with Helga, and she's definitely a great character to watch. Harold: Harold for sure is one of my favorite characters. He kind of acts like Helga a little, in the fact they can be mean, but deep down aren't too bad. He also likes eating a lot, which is similar to me honestly. In general, Harold tries to act mean and nasty, but he can't really do it, which is similar to Helga. He also likes Patty, and Rhonda seems to have a crush on him. Harold is probably my second favorite character, only behind Helga. Stinky: Stinky is a country boy who lives in a shack. He often thinks he's need good at anything, and he has a love for lemon pudding. He also says, "This really bites!" a lot. Stinky does appear frequently, but he doesn't have a lot of episodes centered on him, and those that usually are episodes where him, Harold, and Sid cause some sort of problem. Sid: A lot of people don't really like Sid, however, I actually think he's alright. In general, Sid is easily paranoid. He'll believe things like thinking Principal Wartz is dead, or thinking Stinky is a vampire. He also seems to mostly hang out with Harold, Stinky, and Gerald. Sid isn't one of my favorite characters, but I like him more than most people do. Eugene: Eugene is a jinx. Almost every time Eugene appears, something bad is going to happen to him. In general, he is the unluckiest character. He also is very optimistic, which is weird considering how unlucky he is. I like Eugene, but he's not one of my favorite characters. Lila: A lot of people say Lila is the worst character on the show. I'm not a huge fan of her, but she isn't as bad as people make her out to be. She likes Arnold, but doesn't "like him, like him". Lila also seems to be the only kid Helga downright hates, because Arnold loves her. The main reason I'm not a Lila fan is because her constant "Ever so" and "I don't like you, like you, I just like you." does get a little annoying. Rhonda: Rhonda is the richest kid in the show. She's obsessed with fashion, and only wears good stuff. She also seems to like Harold, although she doesn't admit it. I think Rhonda is alright, but she isn't one of my favorite characters. Nadine: Nadine is a character I can't really talk about much because the show doesn't expand on her a lot. We know she likes nature and being outdoors, and she's best friends with Rhonda, but that's really it. I'd probably like her more if she was expanded more, but she's alright for what she is. Sheena: Similar to Nadine, I can't really talk about Sheena much. We know she hates violence, ad she seems to like Eugene, but that's really it. She's alright, but I'd like her more if she was expanded on more. Curly: Curly is definitely an interesting character. Not a whole lot stands out about him except one big thing: he's probably the most insane character on the show. He'll go crazy over little things, like not being the ball keeper or not telling tales. He also likes Rhonda, as shown in a few episodes. Brainy: Like a few others, Brainy isn't expanded on much. He breathes heavily a lot, frequently stalks Helga (usually when Helga is ranting on about how she loves Arnold), and gets punched in the face by Helga a lot. He's cool as a running gag, and he's probably my favorite running gag in the show, but I can't say much about him as a character. Mr. Simmons: Mr. Simmons is a rather interesting character. He is Arnold's teacher most of the show, except Season 1. He definitely cares about the kids as shown many times. He also has a habit of saying "special" a lot. He is also hinted to be gay, which is why he's rather interesting. He doesn't really try to hide it that much really, but the easiest way to figure it out is in "Arnold's Thanksgiving" with his family, where it hints it there pretty obviously. Principal Wartz: Wartz isn't one of my favorite characters. He does have some great moments, like him saying "Go humans go!" in "Arnold's Halloween" and him singing "I Will Prevail" in "Principal Simmons". In general, all he is a strict elementary school principal. I guess he's okay, but nothing special. Big Bob: A lot of people don't like Bob, because he's a bit of a jerk. Ironically, Bob is actually one of my favorite characters on the show most of the time (except "Parents Day", "Helga on the Couch", and the beginning of "Big Bob's Crisis") Me personally, I think Helga acts the way she does mostly because she learned it from Bob, as the two act similar. I also think Bob deep down does care for Helga, even if she's not as achieving as Olga. (For example, in "Save the Tree", he orders Nick to stop the bulldozer so he doesn't run over Helga.) "Quantity Time" is my favorite episode of the show due to the fact it shows Bob does care for Helga, even if he doesn't always show it. Miriam: Miriam is an interesting character. Much like Bob, she seems to favor Olga over Helga, but Miriam seems to show love for Helga more than Bob seems to. The main reason Miriam is interesting is she is an alcoholic. The show doesn't directly state it, though it's pretty easy to figure out she is. She has a habit of making "smoothies". Although I slightly prefer Bob over Miriam, she is a character I like. Olga: I HATE Olga. She is probably the worst character on the show to me. I liked Olga in her first appearance, where it seemed like she actually doesn't like getting nonstop attention from her parents all the time, but every other episode she doesn't really care. She also seems perfectly fine annoying Helga as well ("Student Teacher", "Big Sis", and a few others). She also cries just about every episode she's in, which isn't really great. Her voice is also very annoying, and honestly, Helga's voice is more mature than her's, and Helga is younger. Ernie: Ernie is definitely one character I enjoy watching when he's on. He's a demolition worker, and he's pretty short. He also has a crush on a supermodel named Lola, although this was only in one episode. Although Ernie has very few episodes focused on him, even though he appears a decent amount, he's one of my favorite characters on the show. Mr. Hyunh: Mr. Hyunh is a Vietnam immigrant who lives in the boarding house. He has a daughter whom reunited with him one Christmas. He also has a cool singing voice. Mr. Hyunh, while a good character, might be my least favorite of the boarders just because I like the other ones a little more. Oskar: Oskar is a con artist. He seems to be the only boarder the other boarders don't like, because of that. He is also extremely lazy, and usually just mopes around asking Suzie to make him a sandwich. However, I do think deep down he cares for Suzie and the boarders. Oskar is actually one of my favorite characters because of his strangeness. Suzie: Suzie is Oskar's wife. She has to deal with Oskar all the time, and it isn't unusual for her to kick him out of the room. Me personally, I really like Suzie and Oskar's relationship, and both of them are actually some of my favorite characters. Ruth: Ruth is a very boring character. Usually she just acts clueless to anything that's going on. She is definitely not a character I like, mostly because she's clueless and boring all the time. Fortunately, she doesn't appear much outside of Season 1. Patty: I actually really like Patty, and she and Phoebe are my favorite female characters on the show other than Helga. She has a reputation for being tough, but she can go easy on characters at times ("Helga VS Big Patty" for example). She also likes Harold, as shown in a few episodes. My only problem with Patty is that she wasn't used that much, and doesn't really appear that frequently. Wolfgang: Not a whole lot to say about Wolfgang other than he's a bully and he picks on Arnold and his friends. I don't really like Wolfgang other than his voice, which is awesome. Miss Slovak: Not really much to say about her, except she was Arnold's teacher for Season 1. She isn't really interesting, and I'd say I'm happy Mr. Simmons replaced her.
