Pirates of the Caribbean director attached...

Bioshock is headed from the video game screen to the big screen and will be directed by Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski. John Logan (Sweeney Todd) is expected to write the script.

No word yet on how closely the movie will follow the video game. Here's what the game was about, according to IGN.

An eccentric genius named Andrew Ryan creates an underwater utopia called Rapture, gathering the best and brightest scientists, artists and industrialists of his day and relocating there with them. Decades pass and by the time Jack, an aircraft crash survivor, sets foot in Rapture, Ryan's idealistic vision has devolved into a horrifying remnant of a failed society. The decaying art deco city is now littered with corpses, genetically mutated humans, and bio-mechanical monstrosities.

"I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that's cleverly unveiled to players is just brimming with cinematic potential," Verbinski told Variety. "Of all the games I've played, this is one that I felt has a really strong narrative."

I'm mixed here.

Gore Verbinski made a movie based on a fucking Disney theme park ride into one great film, a good one, and a fun one. If there is one person that can pull this off, it's probably Ridley Scott (dude is versatile as fuck). If there are TWO people that can pull it off, they're Ridley Scott and Gore Verbinski.

Verbinski's good.

I think Logan did some other big-name movie that was good. I forget which though. But, yeah, I trust his name. >_>

If they don't fuck up the ending, follow the story narrative the way the game has it, and get good people to play the main roles this could be the best Video Game adaptation ever. They have a great director and writer.

Am I crazy or would Liam Neeson or Daniel Day Lewis make amazing Andrew Ryans.

I was more thinking William Hurt.

Also, Steve Buscemi has to be in this. Somehow. Maybe as that artist guy, I can't remember his name now.

Gladiator? I think it was shared with one other guy but I remember reading that title in another Bioshock article.

Buscemi as that artist guy would be immense.

DDL would work as Andrew Ryan. Greatly. >.>

And yeah, I looked him up, Logan's done shit like Gladiator and Aviator and some other shit that I forgot/don't care about.
