Johnny Angel has been teaching and coaching at Palm Harbor Recreation for over 20 years. He is a USPTR (United States Professional Tennis Registry) 4A Certified Professional and a USTA (United States Tennis Association) Certified High Performance Coach, which requires at least 5 years of verifiable experience coaching collegiate and professional players. The USTA's Coaching Education Department is committed to offering coaches the highest-quality coaching education experiences in the world. The incentives for the coach who completes the program are significant. They include: personal and professional growth, being involved in a program that is on the cutting edge of coaching, and becoming a part of a publicly recognized group of America’s leading coaches. In addition, the program provides ample opportunity for the high performance coach to interact and network with other leading coaches throughout the United States. The program offers ongoing continuing education through the monthly coaching education and sport science E-newsletter, event based programming and High Performance educational workshops and seminars throughout the year. Additionally, he is a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Registered Coach, the highest of all certifications. In order to be registered, a coach must have verifiable coaching experience and be endorsed by tour players. There are only 35 registered WTA coaches, only 8 of them from the US. Johnny started playing tennis at the age of 6 and graduated from college with a major in Physiology and Ethology. After graduation, he began playing on the pro tour and moved to Florida in 1986. Johnny also attends University of South Florida studying behavioral science. He coaches nationally ranked players, including professional players such as Melinda Czink, who was ranked 57th in the world. He has coached players on the WTA Tour to the highest ranking of 22 in the world. He makes use of cutting edge technologies which includes using a computer to analyze a player’s game style and swing patterns. He has produced over $8.3 million in collegiate scholarships for his players. He has worked with Peter Czink and Dani Posada, Northwestern's NCAA Division 1 Player of the Month. Although Johnny has a worldwide reputation, he is committed to CSA- Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation because “...tennis should be affordable and young players should have the opportunity to have the best coaching available.” "It should be a game before a sport" Programs: Angel and his staff offer year round programs from Munchkin (age 6) up through Adult, including USTA High Performance Training for upper level juniors who are competing on high school teams or competing in USTA tournaments. Their very popular Summer Camp is offered every year as well as Private Lessons. The courts are located at Putnam Park on 799 Riviere Road in Palm Harbor. |
