Crises of the Late Antiquity

The Crises of the Late Antiquity is a period of aldanorean history stretching over a century from 451 AD to approximately 550 AD in which the Dominion's golden age during the age of the Canarátoriates of the antiquity was ended and the dark ages began in Aldanore Siryambonio. The period began when the last Canarátoriate (3rd Dânwaith) went to war with the Tawarwaith seeking to establish complete control over the Dominion. The short war saw the forces of the Canarátoriate being crushed in the invasion of Imlad Luithôn crippling the Canarátoriate. The tawarwaith however proved unable to invade the Dânwaith homeland in return sparking a period in aldanorean history where none of the six tribes was able to consolidate a new Canarátoriate and gain power.

As a result the period 451-473 saw massive bloodshed as the different Lindellim tribes fought against one another badly damaging the dominion. In 469 the tribe of the Hallim, the most loved by the indigenous aldanoreans, in an attempt to establish order summoned barbarian mercenaries in an attempt to win the war. While initially this saw the Hallim gain ground defecting barbarian races, who had taken a liking to the wealth of the weak dominion, began pillaging the dominion. By 473 the Lindellim tribes, all of which weakened considerably, began to perceive intensifying barbarian raids, and outright invasions, as a more serious threat then the intertribal competition for Canarátoriate and began uniting.

For the remainder of the period the Lindellim, in varying states of unity, fought back against barbarian raids, which began to include races from faraway lands with strange cultures and customs, with varying degrees of succes. Until the 550's, at which time raids declined, the dominion saw its populace fall dramatically and much of its territories went to foreign conquerors and settlers. This lead to the begining of the dark ages of the Dominion, which would not be ended before the final Lindellim unification and uprising during the Alcedina-Lindellim War almost three centuries later.

The Barbarian Nations

While I initially envisioned the period as being dominated by indigenous aldanoreans (who will play a key role, especially in the begining) as being the pillaging barbarians I was thinking that it would be way more fun if the rest of you have your societies play the role of the barbarians (a generic term that the Lindellim use with the same careless arrogance of the RL greeks).

So if anyone is RP'ing having a culture going on the offensive at this time period let me know and I will incorporate it into the storyline. It is possible to have been both mercenaries and foreign military observers in canarátoriate armies invading Imlad Luithôn, mercenaries joining the Hallim armies and barbaric warbands, either representing a state or as tribes or even mercenaries for other barbarians. If you have a good idea of how to have been involved it is more then welcome.

One thought i have is for one of the Elwe Princes (who at that time were the most highly advanced nations in the Edomite Isles) to perhaps through a marriage or other alliance have agreed to bring in forces, and have raised a Baran or Haranese force to commit to raids.

That sounds like a great idea. Depending on the religious persuasion of the Elwe at this time both the Dânwaith and Hallim, possibly even the Tawarwaith could have tried to go to other related nations to secure a marital alliance and military support.

Well, there were several large ex-Legion brotherhoods roaming around. It would make sense for a few of them to join together in a sort of Crusade, if that would help your cause.

That sounds fine. Would it then be as foreign conquerors or mercenary armies?
