*sniffle* Got me all choked up, it did. Just the combination of the kids singing and all the lovely scenery. And some of those shots were awe-inducing!! The one with them on the Opera House was just amazing.
Those kids must have had the time of their lives doing that. Tell me, are they a particular choir/group, or just a group put together specifically for that ad? I saved it, so I can watch it again later.

Ah das...that one holds a special place for me. For many years, my mom directed a yearly musical show at our church--lots of popular tunes, show tunes and such, performed by children, youth and adult choirs. One year the youth choir did a commercial medley, and that was one of the songs...that would have been about 1972, I guess.
When I watch that, it just seems like yesterday that it was on the TV.I love looking at ads as a sort of documentation of the culture of the time. I remember once in a college art class seeing a compilation of ads from the very early days of TV up through the late 60s, I guess. It was fascinating to see how they got so much more sophisticated. And of course the stuff they do now is just phenomenal. But I'm sure in 20 years, we'll look back and say 'How quaint! Remember the Magic Fridge?'

It must have gotten lost in the national anthem discussion. My mind was on autopilot. You guys must have longer attention spans than we do. Commercials over here don't last longer than 30 seconds or was it 60. Anyhow its one of the two. |

When I was in the UK, in 2004/05, there was this funny ad about petrol/gas or something along those lines. They had these motorcar engines flying around and men were singing "All you need is Hate" (or something like that :D) very mellowlike. It was so cute and funny! |

That one is for Geico Insurance. I love the California Cheese commercials with the cows, they are hysterical. |

Okay, this is an old one, but I just thought of it and I love it! It's a cell phone commercial, I want to say for Sprint, but I'm not positive. This family is really upset because the dad called home to ask the mom what he needed to pick up. She told him "a movie, maybe something old", but because of their bad cell phone service, he heard "a monkey with a cold." And then they had the cutest little monkey that sneezed and stuff! I don't know, maybe I'm just a sucker for monkeys (just not cursed, evil, demon monkeys). My latest favorite commercials are the "Humor Research" commercials on TBS. John Cleese cracks me up! "Which is funnier: a mime pretending to be trapped in a glass box or a mime actually trapped in a glass box?" |

Tonight... I saw the awesomest commercial. It was for digital TV or something... you know the programs that let you have a 100 or so channels to watch on TV? Well, anyways, it's set up like a scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Ben Stien is the teacher and he's going "Bueller...Bueller..." and the girl is like "he's not here, he's sick." And so Ben goes "Sick?! No. He's probably at home watching TV with such and such a program ..." Ahh man, it was SO funny! I also like the one for Axe spray. It goes something like this: "This is British accent guy. Girls adore the Queen's english and this redcoat lays it on thick." Then it goes on about how one can stop this guy from killing their game by using Axe spray. |

Oh! I just remembered my favorite ads! Trunk monkey! I don't know if any are familiar with this one, but it's a car commercial with a new feature: A Trunk Monkey. There's a couple of them feauturing many situations in which a monkey would be useful. For instance, say you crash into a real big guy and he's mad at you. Simply press the trunk monkey button and the monkey'll handle him! You'd be surprised how far those monkeys can throw. Or, say you're pulled over by a cop for a ticket. Who better to schmooze than a monkey? Who can resist those eyes, especially when he's handing said cop a doughnut? Great stuff.

The EMERALD Nuts commercials! Where they make a weird sentence from the words EMERALD NUTS. Energetic Matadors Easily Running And Littering Do Not Use The Steamroller. Or something like that. |

My favourite American advert has to be the Volkswagen adverts with Peter Stormare. "V Dub, representing Deutschland!" English adverts (a little tricky as I don't really watch TV) but what I can remember: Last year there was an advert for the post office, it was just full of happy people receiving their mail but the music on it was lovely, a happy little recorder tune. There are adverts for a phone company (or something) called Talk Talk that remind me of that Carlton advert (which was hilarious by the way). The Orange phone adverts in the cinema, some better than others but very funny. Captain Will Williams |
