Root canal? *winces* I sure am glad that's not in my near future. *crosses fingers for good measure* Glad to hear that everything is going relatively well for people and their teeth. |

Sorry - that sentence just amused me. (In a good way, I mean; not in some evil way.)Dunno about root canals...
I used to never have cavities, and then suddenly I had like three of them in a row, in consecutive semi-annual check-ups. I wasn't brushing my teeth badly to begin with, I think, but I kept brushing better and better each time - and each time I'd have another cavity! It was kind of scary. I figured I might as well get dentures straight away. But then the cavities stopped again, and now my dentist keeps saying I clearly eat very little candy and brush my teeth very well. (The first statement is completely incorrect, and the second is true - when I do brush my teeth, but I skip doing that regularly. :P) On the more aesthetic side of teeth... Does anyone have any gold ones, pirate style? I don't, but I'd like to have one, maybe two... just not in extremely noticeable places.

Hey--it'd go well with a Captain Jack costume wouldn't it? I image it'd be kinda painful getting those. I mean, well you know--doctors and dentists are always sort of going, "this won't hurt a bit," and then you're practically screaming your head off when they jab a needle into you which is the size of Texas, and yet...they say it's an infant sized needle so you won't even feel it prick you.... <_< Sorry, a bit of mistrust there, and a tangent. |

Here's a question: Does anyone have any food suggestions? The last two days I've been eating liquidy instant potatoes and chocolate pudding, and that's ALL I've eaten. I tried ramen noodles (the dentist said it was okay to have soft noodles) and oatmeal, but both ended up having pieces that tried to wander into cavaties they shouldn't. So, I'm getting just a LITTLE bit bored with potatoes, potatoes, potatoes.... Any suggestions? :Love To All: ~ Joy ~ |

Your story sounds similar to mine. I have had this black spot on one of my teeth for years (And I do mean years!) In fact, the first time I went to the dentist with it, I thought for sure they would say something about it. They didn't. I have been to the dentist many times since then. Just recently, I went to the dentist again and the dentist was like "See that black spot on your tooth? Well that's what a cavity looks like." :censored:! WHAT?! Huh? Did they never notice it before??? I CANNOT believe that! So, just like you, I have said that I want to sue my dentist. Root canals are not cheap! It seems to be a big money making scam. |

Yeah, well, I also think they're pretty painful! But then again, I wouldn't know. Plus, I'm a baby about pain... Joy, I would recommend Jello. It comes in all different flavors, so you won't get too bored of it. Also, maybe you could get someone who really likes you to go get you a milkshake somewhere. But don't drink it through a straw! (You don't want to suction out your blood clots and start bleeding everywhere.) Ice cream would probably work, too. Just don't get rocky road or anything! |

Joy, to answer your food question... I don't know if you've tried Jello or not, but it was my best friend. You can eat it fast and it's good too. I also had applesauce, and yogurt. Also grits...but I'm not sure if a non-Southerner would enjoy them. I know how old it can be eating the same things over and over. By the end of the first week I thought I'd never have solid food again! |

Seriously, it's torture! I kept watching TV, and I'd see all this food on commercials and things, and since I wasn't sick, I wanted to eat it, but I couldn't! And I was reading these mysteries that are about this lady who runs a catering business, and she's always cooking good food! *sigh* It was not fun. Hang in there, Joy. Before you know it, you'll be eating normal food again. |

I'm not sure how Joy'd feel about them, but I'm from California and didn't have grits until I was in high school, and I love them! Seriously, they're really good... and mushy, so they'd be perfect for you, Joy!

Aye, that too.
Any food that isn't really crunchy or anything. Seriously, you can eat absolutely anything! Just cut it up into really small pieces (so they fit in your not-opening-very-far mouth), and be careful when you chew that it doesn't go way to the back of your mouth, where the stitches are. I only had one semi-liquid meal after wisdom teeth removal (mashed potatoes, apple sauce, maybe a few brown beans), and that was it. I was eating regular stuff again on the second day. |

Well, I'm finding that if I weren't so swollen, it'd be easier for me to eat something a bit more solid-soft. But my cheeks are majorly swollen, so it's difficult to do any sort of chewing. Yeah, I've had grits, and I like 'em. I'm from California, but have lived in Missouri the past 13 years, and definitely have been introduced to some great Midwestern and southern-ish foods since being here. Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I tried oatmeal again last night and it didn't do too bad, 'cept I ended up with indigestion.... :Love To All: ~ Joy ~ |

Here's a suggestion for the swelling, Joy. Get an icepack (or just a Ziploc bag with ice cubes in it) and wrap it in a towel. Lay on your side with the ice pack on your cheek for 30 minutes. Then turn over and do the same thing on the other side. I would recommend watching a movie or TV while you do this so you don't get bored. Or you could take a nap!
Anyway, it should help with the swelling and it slightly numbs any pain you might have, too! Just a tip from my dentist I thought I'd pass on!

Not sure if this will help, but the mother of the kids I babysat suggested taking a vitamin E pill and cutting it open, then pour the gel onto your gums. I didn't try it...but if you want to it's there. |

Hmmm... Vitamin E pill... interesting. I might try that. I did use ice in a ziploc the first couple days, then my instructions were to switch to a heatpad. So yesterday I used my mom's herbal cloth heat thingie on my cheeks. It worked pretty well, 'cept the herb smells made me a bit nauseous, LOL. My friend had me put an herbal mint tea bag in the back of my mouth for an amount of time... That actually did help with the swelling and pain for a little while. And it tasted good... So I might have my mom pick up a box of those teabags. I'm not doing so bad today. I've been finding myself just not hungry at all, so today I've only had a cup of chocolate pudding so far.... All these suggestions are wonderful. This is honestly the most extreme medical procedure I've had to have done to me so far. In fact, besides getting x-rays when I broke my wrist as a toddler, it seems all my major medical things have been of the dental kind. :Love To All: ~ Joy ~ |
