Just to warn you ahead of time, I can get extremely talkative at times... and profiles/about you types of things are one of those times. LOL The length is skewed by my list of favorite actors in the middle of the post (it's list of top twenty and then twenty honorable mentions).

NAMES

My name is Joy. I am female (just for clarification, LOL). I was not named after anyone, but my first name (Rebekah) is spelled in the rare Biblical fashion (which makes it nigh impossible to find personalized goodies with the correct spelling).

I don't have any real nicknames. I don't really consider "Joy" a nickname since it IS my middle name. My oldest and dearest nickname is Sweet Cheeks (due to my rosy cheeks at birth), and I have always been my uncle's Little La Bamba. I get called "Tina" a lot online, 'cause people seem not to be able to catch my signature at the end of every single message I post and therefore reference my name from my username. My newest nickname is George; my 2-year-old stepnephew keeps calling me George instead of Joy.

Speaking of my username, I've had several people in the past PM me asking if I have ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), based on my username. The truth is, my username is supposed to be read as: Tina, Al's Girl. I'm a Quantum Leap fan, and my favorite character is Al Calavicci. His girlfriend on the show is a smart redhead named Tina... So when I was coming up with my universal username (I use this name EVERYWHERE), I decided I wanted to be Al's girl, so I called myself "Tina, Al's Girl."

ORIGINS

I was born in California on May 15, 1985. My family moved to Colorado Springs not long after, then moved back to Cali when I was 2 1/2 (and my sister was two weeks old). Then in 1993, at age 8, I and my family moved to Independence, Missouri. Thirteen years later, I still live there.... and I'm getting cabin fever. I will be moving to Branson, Missouri (my chosen permanent location for the rest of my life) either this fall or next spring. With all the traveling I've done in my life, I've been to 27 states thus far.

My heritage includes Dutch, German, Welsh, Cherokee, and many more, but the bloodline I show the most is Irish. Of my grandparents' twelve grandchildren, I'm the only one with both red hair AND green eyes (and only one of two with red hair).

My Zodiac sign is Taurus, and I was born in the Year of the Ox (rather ironic).

PERSONALITY

I'm shy. I'm funny in a sarcastic way (my one-liners are often quite shocking). I'm a bit of a rebel (was involved in an underground newspaper in high school and am a listening board for the underground political newspaper at my college). I'm quiet, short, weird, smart, and hopefully fun. I'm Goth at heart (took an online Yes/No quiz; passed with flying colors), which is in some ways being a hippy at heart (which I am also). I'm the first to call myself fat, geeky/nerdy, and unattractive.

I have a deathly fear of using the phone.

Favorite types of decor (which can tell a lot about a person's personality):
fairies, unicorns, princesses (not Disney; more of strong, beautiful, Irish princesses), collectible dolls (including Barbies)

ENTERTAINMENT

My favorite types of music:
old-time country (Branson-type... banjos, fiddles... hillbilly music, really, if you will); Gospel; Soft Rock (ballads, etc.); Broadway; Classical; Celtic/Gaelic; Instrumental (classical, techno, etc.)

Favorite music artists:
Neil Diamond; Jim Stafford; Enya; Mike Oldfield; Phil Collins; Billy Joel; Jack Wagner; Ray Stevens; many more

Favorite bands/groups:
Outkast; Coldplay; Beatles; Alan Parsons Project; Royksopp; Hughes Brothers (family group down in Branson); Monkees

My favorite books include:
Harry Potter series; most of the Star Wars Extended Universe; Quantum Leap, Touched By An Angel, and Wild Wild West novels; Tony Kozol Mystery Series (including, and especially, Bum Rap in Branson); any books set in Branson (or at least, all the ones I've read thus far, I've liked); Cooper Kids Adventure Series (by Frank Peretti; kinda like Indy Jones with kids and a heavier Christian tone)

Magazines I read:
US Weekly (mainly for the fashions and any spottings of my favorite actors [mainly Johnny Depp]); TIME

The movie character I would say I'm most like is:
Willy Wonka (2005 version)

Favorite movies (not in order 'cept first two):
1) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
2) Face to Face (Dean Stockwell indie film; now called Italian Ties)
3) Rigoletto (not the opera; a DTV movie that's kinda a combo of Beauty & the Beast and Phantom of the Opera)
4) Pirates of the Caribbean
5) Anything with Dean Stockwell (that would make the list over 150 long, so they all go under one #)
6) SOOOOOO many more, it's difficult to list them all

Favorite new TV shows (began 1990 or after): House MD; Stargate Atlantis; Stargate SG-1; Dead Zone; Enterprise; Touched By An Angel; Twice In A Lifetime; Becker (a very recent addition)

Favorite old TV shows (began 1989 or after): Quantum Leap (kind of between old and new); Wild Wild West; all those old shows like I Dream of Jeannie, Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, etc.

FAVORITES AND SUCH

I'm working off an "ultimate" survey I've compiled from all the different e-mail surveys I get from people. I'll try to be concise in choosing what info to say...

My favorite types of food include seafood, Mexican, and Italian, though I'm also quite partial to home-cookin', Silver Dollar City-style (I LOVE their skillet bowls!).

My favorite place to vacation is Branson, Missouri (and especially Silver Dollar City, Branson's resident theme park). I also enjoy visiting California when I can, especially Los Angeles and Happy Valley Campground up in Santa Cruz.

My favorite day(s) of the week are Tuesday (House MD!) and Friday (shorter class day, no work, and Stargates on Sci-Fi Friday!). My favorite holiday is Christmas (family, friends, and lots of chocolate!).

My favorite hobbies include writing (screenplays, fanfics, etc.), reading, and hanging out online. I also love to draw (a link to my DeviantArt gallery can be found in the Fan Art section on Parley; I don't have my latest and best works up there yet, though).

My favorite number is 5 (quite possibly influence by my DOB of 5-15-85). My favorite color is green (heavily influenced by my love of all things Irish). My favorite flower is the Callalily, and my favorite animal is the giraffe (they're everything I'm not: tall, thin, graceful).

My favorite sound is the quiet peace of the redwood forests of California (man, I miss Happy Valley), and my favorite smells include flowers in bloom, the smell of redwoods at dawn, and the humid midwestern air just before rain comes.

I won't do any of those "Which is better" ones 'cept the following:

Disney or Warner Brothers: both (Disney has PotC, but WB has Wild Wild West [yes, I liked it], CatCF, Corpse Bride, and Harry Potter)

Going to Movies or Renting Movies: Going to the movies, simply because the screen is bigger, the sound is better, and you can draw off the emotions of the audience around you

If I could meet one person, dead or alive (I'm not counting Jesus 'cause He's a given for me), it would be Ross Martin (one of the best actors to ever grace our screens). I would say Dean Stockwell, but I've already met him (though I'd love to meet him again). I would also love to meet Johnny Depp and Hugh Laurie.

I don't have any tattoos or piercings and don't plan on ever having any. If I DID get a tattoo, it'd be a custom design by myself that utilizes the Claddagh.

If I could go anywhere, it would be Ireland and Italy (Rome and Venice particularly).

HAVE I EVER

I have been in love, but it was once and it was unrequited (he didn't even know I liked him more than a friend, and he still doesn't). I've never been kissed. I've never had a boyfriend (but before anyone jokes like my sister likes to do, I do not ever plan on becoming a nun and I'm FAR too attracted to guys to be a lesbian ;) ).

I've never left the country. I've never consumed alcohol (and never will) and I've never smoked (and never will).

I have been on stage; it was at Silver Dollar City, in front of an audience of over 1,000 people. I have been in the newspaper--my name was printed in the honor rolls every year of my high school career, and I was quoted in an article about my high school's graduation.

I have been on a plane, and I LOVE flying. I have never cheated on anything. I fell asleep during a "scary" movie; it was the Sixth Sense.

Yes, I've contemplated what it might be like to end my life, but have never acted upon those thoughts (mainly 'cause I'm too curious as to what may happen Tomorrow to take my life Today).

I have met celebrities; I have met Dean Stockwell, Tony Curtis, George Sidney, Ellie Kanner, Pat Hitchcock, Kenny Baker, and Scott Baio. I almost met astronaut Buzz Aldrin; I was within feet of him at the opening ceremony at Silver Dollar City several years ago.

BELIEFS

I do believe in aliens, in that God created other earths with other humans. I do believe in God and Intelligent Design (with a small bit of Evolution thrown in). I believe in the Big Bang Theory; God said, "Let there be light," and BANG! it happened.

I've had difficulties believing in Love. I believe in psychic powers (I have them myself).

I DO believe in government conspiracies, and I do NOT believe that squirrels are evil; I think they're absolutely ADORABLE!

RANDOM TRIVIA

For me the worst feeling in the world is not having a father who ever TRULY loved you, as well as constant feeling as though everyone is talking behind your back ("a smile to the face with a knife behind the back", as someone recently described it to me).

For me the best feeling in the world is having a mother who loves you unconditionally, as well as having friends who are loyal and understanding.

My worst fear is of dying without ever having experience reciprocated love.

I love roller coasters. I'm a coaster enthusiast (or, well, not quite... but if I had the money to go to more theme parks, I would be!).

I LOVE thunderstorms. I want to be a stormchaser.

I cry with myself, and I've been doing it a LOT lately. I'm definitely suffering through a major depression, and the stress in my life has been taking a real toll on me, and there have been some circumstances online that have made my one escape from real life just as stressful as dealing with stuff at home. So I currently have no escape, so I'm on the verge of a MAJOR, BAAAAAD nervous breakdown, and I can't afford that with only four weeks left of school, and so being bottled up for so long... man, when I blow it's gonna be BAD.

I am currently a member of 102 Yahoogroups, and I'm probably a member of at least 20 different message boards.

To the question "Is the glass half full or half empty?", my reply is always, "It depends. If it started out full and someone drank half of it, it's half empty; if when poured it was poured half way, it's half full."

PAST

My education has been extremely strange. It's complicated, so a list is more perfunct...

Preschool (age 3-4): homeschooled
Kindergarten (age 5): homeschooled
First Grade (6): homeschooled
Second Grade (7): homeschooled
Third Grade (8): private Christian school (the year I moved to Missouri)
Fourth Grade (9): first semester at the private school; second semester homeschooled
Fifth Grade (10): homeschooled
Sixth Grade (11): homeschooled
Seventh Grade (12): different private Christian school (much smaller [62 students K-12; 3 graduating seniors]; far more liberal)
Eighth Grade (13): public school (first time)
Ninth Grade (14): homeschooled (parents going through divorce)
Ninth Grade (15): voluntarily re-taken when entering public high school
Tenth Grade (16): public high
Eleventh Grade (17): public high
Twelfth Grade (18): public high (graduated top 10% [woulda been 5% if it weren't for the C- my second sem. of Chemistry; the only non-A I ever got in HS])
College Freshman (19): community college
College Sophomore (20): community college (graduating with honors [possibly high honors if I up my grade in Biology from a B to an A]); member of Phi Theta Kappa

PRESENT

I have only held two jobs thus far. Last year I had a job at a discount retail store, but it only lasted one month (bad management; bad hours [not getting home 'til 2am] translating into dropping grades [straight A's to two B's in second sem.]). I currently work this semester at my college library as a student clerk; I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this job! I unfortunately cannot keep it once I graduate (must be a student to work there). So I'm aiming to work at our "home park" of Worlds of Fun this summer.

My family currently has three pets: two dogs and a cat. The two dogs are Sequoyah (turning 10 this year, she's a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd/Chow mix) and Shania (named after shania Twain and her song "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" [she has white "boots], she's a Pomeranian/Terrier/mutt mix). Our cat Molly is an unknown breed, and she will be 14 this year.

Our first dog was named Tehya (which means "Precious"), who was Australian Shepherd/Sheltie mix. She passed away on November 26, 1999--the day before Thanksgiving, while we were in California visiting family.

FUTURE

I'm not sure I'll ever get married (gotta get over my hangup against men), so I don't know what age I hope to be married by. I really don't care as long as the guy I DO marry is going to be someone I'll be with the rest of my life and be HAPPY doing so.

I don't want kids of my own (though I'd like to adopt later on in life). But if I had a daughter, I would name her either Megan Alberta, Samantha Allison, or Jessica Hope. If I had a son, I would name him Albert Dean, Andrew Charles, or Charles Delano.

My dream job is being a filmmaker, but as I said, it's a DREAM job. My REALISTIC aims include working at Silver Dollar City fulltime as a career, maybe apprenticing at the candy factory. And on the side, writing a book series to be sold at the park as well as screenplays and a different book series I've had in the works since ninth grade.

I want to die of old age (and when I say old, I mean VERY old), in my sleep.

My ideal husband would have the following characteristics:

Blue eyes with dark brown hair or brown eyes with brown hair or green eyes with blond hair. Hair length would vary depending on facial features (like with Johnny Depp, I can live with most lengths).

My ideal man would basically be either a Johnny Depp-type or a Hugh Laurie-type.

My mom gets squicked when my 18-year-old sister talks of dating a guy 6 years older than her. And yet when I ask my mom what she'd think if tomorrow I brought home a guy twice my age (which would be a 20-odd year difference), she says she wouldn't even blink. She actually thinks I AM going to end up with a guy twice my age, LOL.

My ideal place for a first date would be something fun and out of the ordinary, like a trip to a theme park or RenFest or Irish Fest.

My ideal place for a first kiss would be on the balcony of Union Station at eleven o'clock at night when no one is there and the lights are dim.
