they meant the Rock n' Roller Coaster at WDW & Disneyland Paris and Space Mountain at DL, WDW, and DP, and just worded the sentence in a confusing way

Ya, that is what I meant.

I actually caught it when I was writing it, but I didn't really care.

I have a feeling the poster meant "Walt Disney WORLD."

Personaly, I feel insulted. Disney World is the more used term up here than Walt Disney World. Shame on you, SilverSparrow. Shame on you all.

(I know it was a joke, so, no hard feelings?):D

And, mr. parrot, I have been to cedar point, but I didn't go on any roller coasters.

They all didn't look that exciting.

Of course, that was before they made the really good one. I really ought to go back (But I'm going to Mexico in febuary, so "meh". Can't blow my money).

.....neither of you has obviously been to Cedar Point.

Wow, that was a little offensive (I know you didn't mean it to be. Oh and please don't ask why. I really don't know how to explain it.)

But have you ever been to Busch Gardens?

Besides, it's all really just your personal preference, isn't it?

If SilverSparrow wants to like IoA, it's her choice, isn't it?

No I haven't been to Cedar Point.

And IOA was designed to be a theme park. You can't go to it assuming it'll be a roller coaster park.

Aye. It definitely makes quite a bit o' difference when ye say amusement park vs. theme park.

Cedar Point is most definitely an amusement park--it's main purpose is to bring the public the newest, biggest, bestest there is in thrill ride attractions. Yes, each ride has its own individual theming, but the overall "theme" of the park is to amuse the public, not give you the feeling of being immersed in any particular "world".

Worlds of Fun (owned by the same company as Cedar Point) is kind of stuck in the middle... It has a distinct theme--various "worlds" put together as an homage to Around The World in 80 Days--but it seems to focus just a bit more on the next best ride rather than total theme immersion.

The best example of the truest theme park for theme immersion is Silver Dollar City. It's theme is an 1880's mining town (a real town named Marmaros that sat on the same land SDC is now) built around a cave used for bat guano mining (yes, that's right, I said *bat guano*). Every building--restaurants, theatres, ride queues, shops, etc.--looks like it was taken straight out of an 1880's mining town. No matter where you walk in the park, you are IN the 1880's. Every ride has its own theme and fully-fleshed story, but all tie into the 1880's mining town theme of the entire park. There are definitely a couple distinct areas--Geyser Gulch/Splash Harbor, Grand Exposition, etc.--but even these distinct areas tie into the 1880's mining town theme.

Disneyland, Disney World, Busch Gardens, IOA (haven't been there yet), etc. are definitely theme parks as opposed to amusement parks--each has very distinct theming areas (Tomorrowland, Africa, etc.) and the rides are built to enhance the theme rather than just to say "Oh we have *5* roller coasters now!"... I'm not really sure about Knott's Berry Farm; when I went there in '98, it seemed more like it focused on amusement than theme...

Of amusement parks, I must say that from all I've heard and seen, Cedar Point is the one to beat. Of theme parks (and I've been to all the parks mentioned in this post 'cept IOA and Cedar Point, so I can say this with personal experience), the best one by far is Silver Dollar City.

Pictures can help a lot in seeing the difference between theme park and amusement park, and I'll see if I can scrounge up some good pic gallery links of CP and SDC as comparison.

And I must say that SDC is doing pretty good at keeping the thrills going even as they preserve the overall theme... Their two newest coasters--Wildfire and Powderkeg--are two of the most thrilling coasters I've been on, and yet they still manage to segue perfectly into the 1880's theme.

So, yeah... if ya'll are ever around the Branson area, ye might want to check out Silver Dollar City (and for more of the thrills instead of theme, their night-park of Celebration City has tons of thrill rides, mini-golf and go-carts that are included in price of admission, and a laser & fireworks show every evening).

.....

Hmmm... Man, I sound like a commercial. And no, I don't work for SDC... though I am planning to within the next year or so, :D.

I didn't mean to be offensive. I only meant that if you both thought those parks were the best for roller coasters then you probably hadn't been to Cedar Point (or to Six Flags Magic Mountain).

It's not even considered to be a 'roller coaster' park but a theme park.

And IOA was designed to be a theme park. You can't go to it assuming it'll be a roller coaster park.

I only said that because you'd said that IOA has the best coasters. I was merely pointing out that there are other parks that are more geared toward roller coasters.

*ahem* Neither of you (Coldmetal and SilverSparrow) know me since I haven't posted much lately but I'm sure others out there will back me up when I tell you I'm not normally an offensive person.

*waits for back up*

*sound of crickets*

*more crickets*

*chases away crickets*

But anyway....I'm Xena....nice to meet you.....no offense intended......

*scurries off to Liar's Dice to keep from committing further offenses*

Ooooh! So I was totally just at Cedar Point on Thursday!!

And I went on: (in no particular order...'cause that's how bad my memory is...)
Iron Dragon x2
Raptor x3
Mean Streak
Gemini x2 (once in the blue train, once in red)
Wave Swinger x2 (in a row, there wasn't really a line so we got off then ran back through)
Mantis
Sky Ride x2

Think that's it...

But I'm kinda bummed, they took out White Water Landing...that was the one water ride there I liked...oh well...

And I wanted to go on Top Thrill Dragster, but no one would go on with me...oh well, next time...

K I'm done.

Remus you didn't ride the Millenium Force?! I'm going to assume it's because no one would ride with you, right? I don't think I would have had the guts to ride by myself for the first time either. That 305' hill is very intimidating when you look at it from the ground. Well, there's always next year, right?

My son and I watched the Top Thrill Dragster and debated whether or not to try it this year. We seem to have the same debate each year and again we ended up walking away. 420 feet straight up and down at 120mph. Maybe next year :P

You didn't ride the Wicked Twister? That's actually my second favorite after Millenium Force.

Ummm...*twiddles hair* Maybe...Actually, three of my friends went on it, and the Magnum and the Mantis, while my cousin and I went on the Iron Dragon and Raptor the second times. I realllllllly wanted to go on it, but I didn't wanna strand my cousin, it was only her second time at the Point.

I do regret not going on it though...oh well, there is next year, as you said.

As for Wicked Twister...yeah. I don't do backwards. I was lucky to be able to ride the Wave Swinger, I honestly thought my days with round rides were over. Glad they're not though.

Very true....as I seem to be dealing with my own issues with the Top Thrill Dragster <_<

Hmmm I hadn't thought of the backwards part. That doesn't really bother me at all but the 'round rides' as you call them....:blech: I remember going to the small amusement park next to the Columbus Zoo in Ohio awhile back. My hubby and I went on one of those type rides that's set up like The Scambler. You sit opposite one another with a wheel between you. Together you turn the wheel and it makes the car spin around all the while the ride is spinning around. It was fun at first but we kept turning that stupid wheel and when we got off I was so close to :blech:. I felt like cr@p the rest of the day. THAT was the last 'round ride' I've ever been on.

Cedar Point is what makes having crazy relatives in Cleveland worth it. Though the last time I was there Top Thrill Dragster, basically the entire reason I came, was down.
Why does it have to be 12 hours away?! Ah well, there's always Valleyfair (that's where the "Fair" in CedarFair comes from, in case anyone was interested) And they have uh....they have....Wild Thing! Yeah thats it! Wild Thing! So what if it partially derailed and sent some people to the hospital this spring? That just makes it more exciting!

Too bad for them Universal owns the rights to Spider-Man rides. Universal Studios Orlando has a Spider-Man ride. I've never ridden it, but it sounds pretty cool.

Spider-man blew my damn mind. I only spent a day at IOA but I loved it. I love theme parks more than life. I want to go to WDW again sooooo bad. Get freaked out by the crazy Jack Sparrow animatronics and whatnot.
