Yes, in all the mythology I've read, it's always been kraken (near as I can recall). I think it does look cool with the double k though.

No, I prefer kraken. It's the most Dutch-looking
(even if it is Norwegian :P).

Hahaha... Ok.. so how do you pronounce it? Before seeing the movie, I pronounces it Krok-en but in the movie, it was Crack-en, and apparently Pintel thinks it Crake-en .... so who's right?

Well, as Ragetti says, the most common way (and the way I've always said it) is like "crack-en." However, like Ragetti also points out, "it's a mythological creature, I can calls it what I wants!" |

All right it took me searching through ten pages of IMDB's madhouse of threads, but I found it. I had read it probably five days ago, it's about the pronounciation of the word. Not entirely sure if it's all correct though. Krake Debate IMDB has some good stuff on the DMC boards if yer willing to sift through em all. |

Looked it up on Dictionary.com ... apparently I was right... (kräkn) So it is Krok-en then. |

Perhaps this is why they included that bit of dialogue in the movie, so that viewers wouldn't get all huffy because the word isn't pronounced the way they know it. Disney covering all their bases again. Plus it makes for some good comic relief. |
