Presuming Tia Dalma is telling the truth (and she seems to know these things), Will has a touch of destiny about him. I presume that by that she means he's destined to do something important in the grand scheme of things at some point. What could that be, I wonder? And could this destiny be why Will keeps miraculously surviving when (most) others don't? Think about it: as a boy, he was the only one who survived the pirate attack; when the Interceptor got blown to pieces, he managed to somehow get away at the last minute; when the kraken sinks the ship he's on (that Lizzy was on before), he's one of the few survivors of the event - and the only one to survive the aftermath. These tragedies all happened at sea... Significant, or only a side-effect of the fact that the larger part of the movies is set there? Should we maybe count his surviving the pirate attack on Port Royal among his many miracles? I mean, he was pretty lucky to be hit on the head and not run through - and pretty lucky to survive said hit also. And there was the grenade that failed to explode at his feet for unknown reasons... OK, rationally I think we can be sure that Will ends up in most of his trouble because he's rash like that, and he only survives because he's the hero of the story (for lack of a better term) so he has to - but we do have that remark from Tia Dalma, which is interesting. So indulge me. (Yeah, overanalysing... I have a love-hate relationship with it.) |

Yes...I assume that Will is/will be a key player in most of the events surrounding POTC. He was certainly pretty indispensible this time around.
I do wonder...Tia's good in that she even knows his name (which Jack seems a bit discomfited by). And then her remark....'you want to know me'. What did she mean by that? *spoiler stuff* *I kind of wonder about all this connection back to the sea...and the woman untameable as the sea. If Tia is in fact Calypso, then she sort of represents the sea itself, no? So does Will want to know the sea better? It is in his blood after all. And Jack--after he says 'I thought I knew you', she says 'not so well as I had hoped'. I must say, I am REALLY looking forward to more on the Jack/Tia backstory.* Just idle, random thoughts, and rather confused, really. But I wanted to get them down before I lost them. |

I think that everything will come together in POTC3, and I think that Jack, Elizabeth, and Will will all fit together in the grand scheme of things. |

Both theories are good. Never thought about it that way until now..
They are all tied together somehow.

Uh-uh, hate to undo your spoiler expectations, but I think that remark is rather easy explained... and is rather plain in general. Although I think there's a story to her and Bootstrap, the "You want to know me" remark is first one way to make Will shut up and second to get to the point in wich she is obviously interested; himself. She indicates he should be interested in her, for herself, in a sexual way. 'Knowing each other"... is most likely a decent term here for sleeping together; consider Jack's earlier revealed relation with her... She once must have been all over Jack like she is now over Will, that's why Jack interferes -a little offended- and asks her "I thought I knew you?". And her reply to that - "Not as well as you think"- indicates that he isn't as irrisistable as he was, or thinks he is. Ha. I thought this piece of conversation really brilliant. Lots of people will not fully get it, escpecially children. Wich ofcourse is totally Disney's intention But then again, even if it is really that plain and common... I'm still curious about Jack, her and Bootstrap too. (NO! Not that way! )

Actually, I think what she says to Jack when he says, "I thought I knew you" was "Not as well as I had hoped", which is probably her way of saying that she's a little angry that they're no longer thick as thieves and nigh unseparable. Don't forget to be curious about Tia and Davy Jones, too! |

All excellenty points. So, why is Tia so willing to help Jack then -- what's in it for her? Or does she think she can get the 'payment' from WIll, instead? Is WIll perhaps the reason for her being eager to help. After all, there must be some price to pay -- seems unlikley that now she'll help the crew get Jack back without some form of payment. So many interesting things to ponder between now and Labor Day next year... |

Well yeah, there's the obvious sexual connotation to 'know' in that that scene. Especially from Jack, LOL. But at that point Will's still pretty much focused on Liz, so I doubt he'd be enticed by Tia's charms. I still think that there's more going on there than just teasing...that's way too easy!I think Will is kind of the center point, from which all else balances. He's a pirate, but also a good man. He loves Liz. I think only he can save his father. He'll go out of his way to save Jack. I think the entire Destiny thing all ties back to bloody stupid Will. I do REALLY want to know the Tia/Jack backstory though...and what happened...before. |
