I looked up what Cruces means and it's spanish for crossings. I then got to thinking that it's a symbol type thingy.

In a deleted scene Liz tells Norry about the island. And how the people on the island got sick and all died, and the church keeper (who was the last one on the island) hung himself. All the people 'cross'ed over to the afterlife or whatever. Maybe the reason's DJ heart is on the island is too somehow/maybe keep from crossing over or something.

Just something I thought of. I'm curious as to what you all think.

I knew Isla Cruces meant that, after I saw the word spelled out. I can't understand spoken Spanish nearly as well as I can written. And even that is pretty poor...:D

I would love to speculate more about the symbolism. After I see the movie again.

And how did you see the deleted scenes already? Am I missing something?

Seems to me an ideal place to bury something -- a palce with a cursed history that probably nobody would want to visit, full of places that have been dug up. Great place to hide a chest, if you ask me! Also, it's full of crosses marking the graves of the dead, so the name is certainly most appropriate.

I think it was a tv spot and Lizzy said:"He hung himself." Also if you have the JN(Journior Novilization) it tells a little bit about the island that I already mentioned, hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses I wasn't sure if I was over thinking this or not.

I just figured it was called that because of the church located there. I can see it taking on that name among the locals, and having it continue even after everyone died and the church fell into ruins.
