Midnight Showings; Been to one? Going to one?

Did anyone here go to a midnight showing of DMC? What was it like? What did you do? Were many people dressed up? Did you have mad&crazy fun? :P

The only midnight parties I've ever been to have been for the last few Harry Potter books. I've never been to a midnight showing of a movie before; however, I am hoping to go to the midnight showing of P3, since this year I'll be out of school early (graduation perks :D). Does anyone have any advice? For instance, how early do you need to get there? Is cosplay/dressing up a good idea? Anything you want to add?

I'd say that things are very much dependant on the crowds going, and where you are.

I went to the DMC midnight showing, and lots of people were wearing pirate acessories--like a bandanna, or something with the skull and crossbones, or a lot of girls wearing the different hot topic t-shirts. There were maybe three guys I saw in full costume but mostly as generic pirates. I would have gone if full costume, but I was going with someone who did not want to be seen with me in costume. I think the one I went to had less costumes than what I heard about from other areas. It definately wasn't a Star Wars...I'll say that.

One thing I would definately recommend doing if do go to a midnight showing is getting your tickets ahead of time--both ordering them and picking them up. As for arriving there early...we got decent seats for the movie when we were there about 40 minutes ahead of time--not the best seats (or more accurately the ones we preferred over all others) but they weren't bad.

That's kind of what I figured - I don't think *anyone* could one-up the Star Wars fans. (Of which I am one, but I've never been to a SW fan-party.) I'd like to find a theatre where lots of people get involved, though. Last Halloween my best mate dressed up as a generic Royal Navy midshipman and I went as a generic pirate (which was fitting in a funny way) and we were planning on doing the same for the midnight showing. I think it's likely that people will go crazier at P3 than they did at DMC, or at least I hope so. I'm so excited! :yay:

Sorry. I needed a moment there.

Tickets ahead of time - definitely. For DMC my friends and I went to a evening showing on opening day, and we would not have gotten in if we hadn't bought our tickets beforehand.

Ringers or Tolkienites? Because those are two very different types of fans...

In my area Star Wars fans still managed to outdo the Ringers. Their line parties started much earlier, and they also had many, many more in costume seeing the film--not just on opening night but on the opening weekend as well. Now--where Ringers really came out in style was for the Lord of the Rings traveling exhibit on its first US stop--at the Boston Museum of Science. Now...that was pretty spectacular everyone all dressed up and everything. Hmmm, maybe we can get a PotC exhibit like that some day? Star Wars and LotR have them, Star Trek has had them...

No matter what midnight screening you go to, though, none of them would ever beat the line-ups for Episode 1.

Ah, the 5 days I spent in that line were some of the best days of my life.

KFC gave everyone in line free chicken. Bless them!

And no, I wasn't dressed up as Darth Vader. (My friend was. I was the Jedi.)

Cool! :o

I agree with Alia-Hildwyn, the Star Wars fans would probably take the title over the LotR fans. Have you seen any photos from Celebration III? Yikes. (But a good sort of yikes.)

Should there perhaps be a forum on this board for non-movie-specific PotC topics? I mean, there are forums for completely non-PotC talk, and forums for fanart and fanfic and such, but it seems like there should be one for "general fan talk," for topics like this one.

Harry Potter fans are on their way up, but I don't think they're anywhere near Star Wars or LOTR just yet. I went to a midnight showing for Goblet of Fire, and some people were so decked out it was crazy! But I've never been to a midnight showing before, so I'm somewhat sheltered from this way of life.

Speaking of midnight showings...I did go to a midnight showing for DMC...sort of. I went to a 1:30 showing for the employees at my movie theater. And I did dress up, but it was the costume I had been wearing for work for a few weeks, and it was only for a costume contest, and I changed into my pjs right before the movie. So pretty much my whole story can be summed up in the words "sort of."
