Sounds serious.

Unless you know what your doing (And I can't tell you) I highly suggest taking it to a computer store and getting it fixed.

It costs some money, but (hopefully) your parents will help pay. After all, they'll want you off their computer, will they not?

Try restarting your computer, other than that I don't know what to tell you.

Operating System not found

"Operating system not found" usually refers to a problem with the Hard disc, this can be a hard error (physical error on the drive) or a soft error (problem with data written, or not written), soft error is the most common and could be a virus or it can happen if a write is interrupted by a power outage. Alternately you could have a problem with the cables connecting the hard disc to the main board, or a burnt chip-controller on the main board. Finally there's also the possibility of a Bios fault so it doesn't look for the hard disc.

I did search around a bit as the PXE ROM is not something I'd seen before but I didn't find anything that seemed relevant. You might want to try and unplug the computer and remove the battery for an hour or so before you do anything more drastic.

Hard errors; requires replacing the faulty part (obviously) and especially if it's a laptop you might not want to try that yourself, also check for a warranty as it becomes invalid if you open the computer casing.

Soft errors can sometimes be salvaged while keeping the data on the drive, especially if you are running WinXP , insert your windows cd and let it boot, at some point you’ll get the option of repairing the current install. Alternately you might want to try and boot with something like a BartPE disc to try and access the old disc and secure any vital data before wiping the system and reinstalling windows from scratch (which is a far better option than repairing.)

Wow! Topcat! :o Impressive.

*goggles*

Su...I think this sounds like your problem. Topcat's right that it sounds like a problem with your hard drive. Try a careful reading of the steps to take.

As Topcat and Lor pointed out in their posts, its just one of the posibilities. I'd get a more thorough look at it then someone via a phone can do if i were you. A new harddrive is far more expensive then using a boot disk or cd and fixing the bios if possible. (salvaging all your saved files that way is another bonus)

That's as good as saying: "act my age? how do I know how to do that? I have never been this old before"

Su, sorry to hear about the HD. If you havent got a new one yet, www.newegg.com is a good place to check if you dont mind the shipping wait. Their prices are quite reasonable.
