I really don't like it when actors are replaced, it only works with Bond or Doctor Who, but that's because the character has a load of lives so he can die and come back as another actor, I don't think that'd really work with other shows, people can't die and come back in real life, I think it annoyed me the most in Matrix Revolutions when they had a different Oracle, I know the original actress died and they couldn't really have a film without her, but the replacement gets on my nerves a bit fo some reason.

Hehe, it has to work for Bond, otherwise it’d still need to be Sean Connery, and he’s all old and bald now, not really the best look for Bond, plus it’d be pretty gross if he was getting with all those young women. Be weird with him doing this prequel, too, cuz it’d be like, “Why is the older in the prequel?” So, yeah, it’s for the best that we can accept new Bonds, otherwise the series would have died and that’d just be sad. Ooh, I actually never saw Matrix Revolutions. I know, I’m terrible. It’d probably annoy me, too, if I saw it.

My Steven

I guess that would be strange since Lucy wouldn't have been able to do as much while pregnant and they'd have to have more stunt doubling than usual, as long as it was still fun while she was, that's what matters. I haven't seen that one, but things in movies and such are so predictably going to get stolen or broken or something, it really annoys me when a character spends ages trying to find something and when they find it they have to examine it, even if there's people out to kill them at the time, because you just know that it'll get stolen if they don't hurry up, I'll be all "hurry up or you'll get it taken from you" which I rarely do at movies,I can usually stay quiet, but scenes like that get to me.

Yeah, the show was still fun, Xena must’ve been really tough to be able to do all that stuff while pregnant, lol. She was still fighting, really all the way up to being in labor, that was kind of weird, she really should have been resting. I can only hope they didn’t have Lucy doing as many stunts. Ooh, I understand, scenes like that are annoying, people in movies usually are annoying, really, because they always do the most stupid things, it’s especially bad in horror movies, but really in every kind of movie they have the characters do stupid stuff, gah, makes me want to slap them.

My Steven

At least you got them all, and in one box would probably take up less space as well I'd imagine, but having random whole boxes is a lot better than random half boxes, and I only want to see the end of it anyway, stupid companies trying to make more money by splitting things in half, that's so evil, not as evil as TV taking it off and replacing it with Chuck Norris and Cops, but it's getting there.

Yeah, that half season thing just sounds stupid. Cheap marketing ploy to get more money. *sigh* It just makes it hard for fans to get all of what they want, it’s mean of them, really, but companies usually are mean, more interested in money than their consumers, that’s the way business is. *sad face*

My Steven

I read the transcripts for the last two episodes, so I kind of know what happened, while also a bit confused since a lot of it was random noises so it was hard to tell what was happening without any direction notes, still nice to know what happened to Xena finally. :D Oh my... you got told what happened in Sixth Sense? that's so cruel! I was lucky that way as I didn't even know much of what it was about, at the time I was supposed to be going with a friend to see Blair Witch, and I thought that sounded crappy so I talked my way into seeing dead people instead, even though I hadn't seen any reviews or much else for it, best way to see things I guess, I even saw Matrix that way, don't get that now with having the internet but it was nice then for surprises.

Yeah, it’s hard to read transcripts for shows with a lot of action and still feel like you know what’s going on. Once I was listening to an episode of Xena over the phone (long story), and it was really annoying when it got to the fighting scenes because I couldn’t tell what was happening. Took me until after the commercial to realize that before the commercial Ares had killed Eli. If you want to know about any particular part in FIN I or II you can ask me, I’ll tell you what happens, if I can remember, lol. I’m glad you know what happens now, anyway, so it gives a bit of closure to the whole thing. Like, when I first saw the ending it really bothered me, not that she *died*, exactly, but the way it happened. But, now I find it fitting, really, so I rather like it. Haha, yeah, before I started going on the internet so much I knew less about movies that were coming out, but that friend who told me about The Sixth Sense watched a lot of movies, and she always told me about them, so I heard about a lot of movies that way. That’s cool you were able to talk your friend into seeing The Sixth Sense instead of The Blair Witch Project. I didn’t see it in the theater, I think I might have been disappointed if I had, really, cuz it’s kind of boring until near the end there, and I’d feel badly if I had paid money to sit through all that boring part, but I saw it on TV for free, yay! Go TV!

My Steven

They're subliminally altering our perceptions of the police force, I'm sure they're not all bribe taking, trigger happy, stupid and often evil people, even if that's how they're made out to be sometimes, I still don't know if I'd want to know one too well, incase they try arrest me or something, although I've had no troubles and I live next door to one. :o Teehee, that sounds like a cute Chakram, not sure how well it'd be for using as a weapon but it would have looked nice and that's much better, since throwing things at people isn't something I think my Tomby would do.

Hehe, tonight I watched Speed 2, the cop was the good guy in that one, yay! I never really felt like I really liked his character though, for some reason… maybe he was too stereotypical hero or something, not unique enough. *shrug* Still a good movie, though. Aw, don’t worry, the cops won’t arrest my Steven, how could they? You’re too wonderful to be arrested. Haha, yeah, I don’t think the chakram I made would have been very good for throwing at people, but I didn’t need to throw it, so that was okay. Aw, you’re right, why would I throw stuff at people, that’s just mean!

My Steven

Jack tried to save him by shocking him with the paddle things, he did save more lives by making the doctors work on the other guy, if he hadn't all of LA would have been wiped out by a nuclear missile and that'd just be sad, but I'm still not sure if that counts as a kill, he looked so sad afterwards, poor Jack, but he definitely killed that dog in day two, one blast with his shotgun and it was no more, I guess he should be kept away from animals as well as people.

Yeah, Jack’s always thinking about the greater good, he doesn’t mind losing a few people, even really good people, if he can save man others, but that’s why it’s best not to be friends with him and to stay away from him, he’s too focused on his job to be safe to be around. Good to have him around to save people, as long as you’re at least 100 miles away from him, yeah, I think that’d be for the best. Ooh, yeah, probably all living creatures should stay away from Jack, that’s for the best, iwould think… dogs, cats, parakeets… all should stay as far away from Jack as possible.

My Steven

Aww, you should have had someone want to go to the cinema with you, I'm almost always having to go on my own as people just don't like the same films as me most of the time, I did get a friend to see Casino Royale but just about everyone likes Bond, even my niece liked what she saw of Living Daylights before wandering off and not coming back, I was alone today when I went to the cinema, no one in there at all, but if I lived closer to you I'd be asking you to go places with me all the time, I'm not sure where I'd ask you to but any place would be a good place as long as I had my Tomby with me.

I know! Why don’t people want to go see the movies I want to see?!?! It’s all a conspiracy! Okay, not really. But, it’s weird, my dad loves Bond, but he still didn’t want to go, I think he’s getting to that point where he automatically thinks anything new is bad. So sad. Ooh, I’d go with you! Anywhere you wanted to go, I’d go with you, cuz I wouldn’t care where it was because I’d be with you!

I don't think Bond would be too much fun if they kept making them with Sean Connery, he's way too old now, he'd bust a hip if he tried to take part in an action sequence so it's best for everyone that they kept using different actors, and I explained it pretty well in my review why the different Bonds are ok, even with their being a blonde one, I'm such a problem solver. :wild1: You didn't see Revolutions? did you see Reloaded? I liked the Matrix sequels, a lot of people didn't but they were fun even if a lot of the story was put inside one speech which was told in the most complicated way possible so a lot of people had no idea what the sequels were about, meh, I understand it ok.

She must have been tough, was she still doing the crazy flips in the air? with all that extra weight with carrying a baby around that'd be tough to flip and stuff, and to have the same speed, that'd be tough too, there's no stopping Xena from kicking butt and killing people. :D I don't know why some characters are so stupid, is it to make the audience feel smarter than them? I just find it annoying, and it is definitely worse in horror films, slow moving killer walking as slowly as possible to catch someone, how hard is it to run away without tripping over so much? and they never finish off the killer when they should, for a film genre which annoys me so much at times it's strange how many of them I watch.

Tomby

It is sad, why would someone want to buy something they can't see the end of? having to buy another set just to see the end of it is wrong, if they didn't treat shows like that then maybe I'd see the boxes around, but I don't, since half boxes are eventually replaced with whole boxes now, no one likes the half ones. <_<

Tomby

Go TV!

Stuff like "Ugh" and "You killed them" are confusing when there's no fighting directions, all it had to say was "Xena does a backflip and hacks off some random solider's head" or something and I'd get it, not that that would have happened, just something I'd like to have seen, but I think I figured it out ok, and who the characters were, since it wasn't saying much about them to know, I got the rough idea of it anyway, hopefully I'll still get to see it one day as it sounds fun. Sometimes I think I look at too much movie stuff on here as I know abut films no one else knows about, and they're like "I haven't heard of that" and I'll be "I knew about it a year ago" which is kind of weird, but it is nice to know something about films, otherwise you wouldn't know what to watch and what not to. Sixth Sense was better on the big screen, it was kind of creepy, it loses a lot on the smaller screen, at least I didn't have to pay to see Blair Witch as that was pants, I saw the film it ripped off as well which was better although still not so good, stupid cheapy bore-fests, no one's making me watch those again.

Tomby

Aw, you’re right, why would I throw stuff at people, that’s just mean!

Sometimes the cops are good, like in Die Hard or Rush Hour, and those ones are fun, as well as the Speed films, so there are some films which likeable cops, although not as many as unlikeable ones, but the guy in Speed 2 doesn't have much which sets him apart from other heroes, he's actually a little dull, still a fun film, even with him not getting so many good lines. Teehee, I don't think I could be arrested either, I haven't done anything wrong, I'm as good as good can be. :D It probably wouldn't be very good for gliding, paper or card or anything is a bit rubbish for that sometimes, even paper planes which are more capable of that are rubbish at times, so throwing it would have been hard anyway, but it looked good and that's what matters.

Tomby

100 miles sounds like a good distance, since people are always trying to set off nuclear bombs near him so at that distance it shouldn't be so bad if he wasn't able to stop it for once, bad for anyone caught in the blast but at least we'd be ok. He doesn't watch out for animals when driving around, but another thing which annoys me in movies is when someone swerves to avoid an a dog or a cat and ends up flying off of a cliff or something, it happens too much, I think I'd be happy if Jack didn't bother swerving and knocked over the animal, it'd be cruel but at least it wouldn't be as annoying as the alternative.

I dinna see the big Hooha about the whole Daniel Craig thing, he's not even all that blond, more sandy coloured. I guess there's just a lot of people out there that don't like change.

The film's set in 2006, it's a restart, since the other films are set across the 60's through to the 90's then it's not like Craig's growing up to be any of those others, I thought he was one of the best anyway, he did a better job of making the action believable, none of the others really pulled that off too well.

Or... not.
Really, there's no need for another version yet. You're only on 150-something replies; you can get a new thread when you're on 300 or thereabouts.

I deleted version 3 after editing your two posts there into the above. Speaking of which... Double-posting is really not a good way to start a thread.

This thread is pretty big, but it's got a lot of life in it yet, mostly because I keep shocking it with those paddle things.

Anyway, it's getting towards the festive time of year so we can talk festive films and TV specials.

Um... I saw the Xena Christmas story last week, that's about all I've seen so far, but that was funny, so it's a good start, before Christmas I'll watch Die Hard and the Father Ted special since I managed to get the DVDs in the post-Christmas sales last year, that one rocks, best Christmas special ever.

You saw the episode about the winter solstice, Steven? That episode's actually one of my least favorite. I mean, it's cute in theory, and when I think about it I remember the funny things, like them doing the fates/ghosts of past, present, and future with the king and the toymaker guy dressing up like Santa Clause, and ooh, Gabrielle giving the donkey to the people supposed to be like Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. When I'm actually watching it, though, I always find it rather boring. :( Ah, well. It's still cute. :)

Yeah, that's the one, I thought it was cool with the donkey stuff, and the fight near the end where that guy took a horn up the rear exit, nasty, but it was fairly action free that one, even the opening fight was done by wrapping them up, maybe Xena should have kicked more ass, then you'd like it more, but it seems most shows have to have a Scrooge style episode. I still liked it, I lost track of what was happening at the end of it though, as some guy showed up and everyone was talking over it, even worse as it was the morning after my operation and had a headache, AND I had my comfy chair taken for some reason, some people, no respect. <_<

I'm going to try watch, but on dial up that could be a pain to do... actually, that idea is so bad since all these formats seem to be for broadband users.

Ok, this one seems to be loading quicker for me: Link

Anyway, I am a Star Wars fan, original trilogy anyway, I seem to do nothing but complain about the prequels, guess that makes me a real fan then. :P

I remember waiting for Episode I though, seeing the trailer for the first time and doing that :o face at it, and then booking my ticket so I could actually get in there, watching the film and thinking it could have been better but it was still good, then getting it on video and realising it was only good on the big screen, like Episode II, both films are average on a smaller screen, Episode III sucks no matter what screen its on, but Episode I is still probably the better of the prequels, yes, I said it, but it's true.

BLASPHEMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!???!!?!!!! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! (pretend thats really the Wilhelm..... lol) BUT WHAT??!???!!!!??!?!?!?!??!?!?! GOOD GOD, MAN!!!!!!

How old are you? I was, you know, 9, when Episode I came out, so I was the perfect age for it... ie. I didn't hate it. I still liked the OT better, duh! I was a hardcore fan since I was like 5, I ate, drank and breathed Star Wars. Still do, but I've broadened out into Pirates and LotR and Potter, etc, as well. Anyway, wtf, mate? No way is Episode I better than Episode III, EVER. NEVER EVER EVER NEVER NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER, EVER!!! NO WAY!!!

Revenge was so bad-ass!!!! Anakin was awesome, Hayden Christensen was such a great actor in that, unlike some others, whose performances in Episode I and II were better (NATALIE PORTMAN, wtf happened, WHY NATALIE, cough.) But jeez! I'm so upset now!!! Why'd you say that!!!??????!!!

How is TPM better? Acting? No. Cast? No, except Liam Neeson. Villians? HELL NO. Sure, Empire is the greatest movie ever, but Revenge is right up there, man!!!! Man, now I have to go hit a punching bag and slaughter people in Goldeneye to take this frustration out!!!!

Yeah, it wasn't even the amount of fighting (or lack thereof), really, that bothered me in that epiode. It's that, even when they are fighting, it's like they're not really trying to hurt the other people. I mean they were in a pillow fight at the end. I know Xena likes to use unconventional weapons, but come on. Pillows would just be annoying, not a real danger. Ooh, a lot of shows do have Scrooge episodes, even the show Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates that I was obsessed with as a child had a Scrooge episode, with Hook having the visions, although the realization he had at the end of it wwas that he needed to be more evil, lol.

Ooh, Wolfarcher, that poster looks funny. I am a huge Star Wars fan. I think it's the first movie (or series of movies, as it were) I really went fan-obsessive over. Tee hee, once Conan O'Brien made a doll of a female Star Wars fan, and I was cracking up when I saw it because it looked exactly like me. I just clicked on the link to watch the trailer, although I'm on dial-up, so it'll take forever for me to see it.

Oh yeah, I forgot the pillow fight for some reason, Xena and Gabrielle hitting each other with cushions, that's something you'd think would stick in my mind, but obviously it didn't. I think some of the fighting in it was more for novelty value, it was fun, probably to keep with the festive spirit that she wasn't killing anyone, but if you've seen the episode a few times then it could get a bit boring after a while. Hook was a Scrooge-like character? I can see that, although being more evil is a pretty good twist on that, all animated series have Scrooge episodes, live action ones do too, although I can't remember so many now I know I've seen a few.

Todays Xena was the one with Gabrielle dressed like Indy, I remembered that one which is always something when I remember an episode, that was kind of fun apart from the clips of other episodes, I don't know why but I never like it when shows do that with clips.

Phantom Menace used more actual sets, when watching Episode II back a lot of it seems like a video game, the actors never look right against the total CGI backdrops, which does take me out of that a lot, and they did it even more in Episode III, Episode I just looked more real, and it had Liam Neeson who was a much better actor than anyone else in the prequel trilogy, oh and it didn't have Hayden in it, which is probably a bonus for it, plus it has the best battles as well, the final lightsaber fight, totally kicks the ass of anything else in the prequels, Episode III was boring for fights, everyone just ran away all the time, if I wanted to see that I'd have watched Star Runaways instead of Star Wars.
