When the marines are shooting at Jack when he is swinging around on that thing... just after he saves, then threatens liz.... one of the marines is shooting with his eyes closed... HAHAHA...

His eyes are closed to prevent getting burned by the powder igniting in the pan when he fires his musket.

Well, my personal favorite is the marine that, after the cannon falls to the deck and makes a big hole, jumps into the hole.  :D

I'd imagine it's somewhat difficult to stop very quickly on a slick dock, patricularly when other marines are barrelling into you from behind. Of course, who's to say that that marine could swim and was trying to save his mate who couldn't? ;)

My opinion is, naturally, very biased toward the marines.

Here's a screen cap of that painting in Liz's room. It's dark, so it's kind of hard to see, but at least it gives you an idea of where to look on your own DVD. :)

I think this guy's face is kind of fun to watch as Norrington inspects Jack's effects. He's kind of laughing, like you see here, and even after Jack says, "But you have heard of me," he still has the same smile on his face. I dunno, I just like picking random background characters and watching their facial expressions sometimes. :)

Oh, wow, PG, I had never noticed those metal masks in the background before! Those are creepy!

Thanks for putting up that picture, tomb! I was going to look for one, but I forgot.

Yeah, I like to look at the background stuff, too. That's how I noticed those masks. (I agree, they are creepy!) There are sometimes the most random things going on in the background. Especially when you look at Jack. He makes weird faces and such. :D

I love the masks...I remember noticing them ages ago, and making screencaps. They are strange....what the heck was Mr. Brown doing with them anyway??? Or does dear William have some fancies of his own, of which we are unaware? :P

I'll have to watch for the marine in the background. It is fun to watch the background characters, I must say. :)

Aha! I remembered the other random thing I noticed. It's actually not exciting or anything, but it's just something random I noticed this time around. (And that's what this thread is for, right?) When Will and Elizabeth are kissing at the end, after Governor Swann turns away from looking at them (nosy!), they aren't actually kissing anymore but just staring at each other, nose to nose. (I hope that makes sense, because it sounds really weird when you write it down.) Anyway, I had never noticed that before, and I thought it was kind of sweet.

I noticed this, and it made me chuckle. Ooops!

Also, these three are wearing their hats wrong. The badge-thing is supposed to be on the opposite side of their heads.

We're watching it again right now and my 11 year old cousin just pointed out that when Jack's doing his escape and he's swinging around and then lands on the bean thingy and waves his hands around to get his balance, his hands are in the irons i.e there's no chain

Wait, what was wrong in the first picture you showed, Jonathan?

His left shoulder epaulette is torn and hanging free, which constitutes him being "out-of-uniform". Not the best thing, since he's standing in close vicinity to the Commodore and Governor Swann, two of his superiors (albeit at the top of the chain of command).

Ah, I see.

I don't really notice about that kind of stuff, and I wouldn't have known about it id you didn't tell me...

Doesn't seem like THAT big of a deal.

By today's standards, it doesn't. For that time period, however, marines and soldiers were expected to present as near a perfect appearance as humanly possible. It was also a point of pride for a man to have a properly-turned-out uniform and well-cared-for kit.

Yeah, that's true.

Also, I liked the one with the guy laughing in the background of Norrington.

Another thing I noticed too, but somehow left out of my other post.

In Picture One, the marine with the spontoon is wearing his sash over his right shoulder. Then his uniform changes in Picture Two to include crossbelts and the sash tied 'round his waist.

Just another nit-pick brought to you by Jonathan the bored fellow.

I must compliment you on catching the big oops. That was funny. I would assume that that was done deliberately (by the film crew), perhaps to suggest that it was snagged some time during the battle before then?
