I thought we had a sports forum? (or am I thinking of that *other* board?) The first test starts in two days! It's going to be hell for me, I work directly behind the Gabba, our office literally backs onto the practice nets, the English team are there now... thus my becoming a fan... some of them are quite cute! But I thought we ought to have a thread for the Ashes.. after all there are some Aussie and Brits here

 Are you sure your a fan of rcricket and not just the cute guys? :ph43r: It seems cricket is the female's version of beach volleyball. You don't really pay attention to the scores. You pay attention to the players... |

Hardly, cricket is generally loved by men as it gives them an excuse to drink beer and lie in the sun for several days. The Ashes is not a team it's a competition played between England and Australia. Legend has it that many years ago the English cricket team was so annoyed that the Australians beat them at their own game that they took the stumps from the match and burnt them. The ashes from the wicket were put into a tiny urn and that is the trophy they play for. Apparently the tiny trophy doesn't really contain any ashes at all and is merely symbolic now. England won last year for the first time in about eighteen years so this year will be an interesting one. Will England managed to win again or will Australia reclaim the Ashes? Will |

Day one... MADNESS! Seriously! I think the fans suddenly thought they were immune to EVERYTHING! Trying to get into our driveway at work was a nightmare! I was too scared to leave the office for lunch and we packed off before 4 or we'd never get out! As we were leaving there was a huge roar... Pointing's ton it turned out to be for... We were playing pyhsics because we had the telly on it in the office but there's a delay in the telecast... so everytime there was a roar or what not.. we'd know before we saw it! I am a fan of the game... not just the players! We started off really well yesterday, but as the Brits proved last year, it's not in the bag for us, like it used to be! |

I LOOOVE Cricket! My country's team, the Proteas, played against India quite recently and we won a few matches against India. Now...I know the Proteas has nothing to do with the above-mentioned Ashes. So, let me say what I really want to say:I'm actually an Aussie fan. (Go, Aussies, go!) But don't tell my fellow South Africans. South Africa is my second favourite team. (I do have some sense of loyalty. :D)I would love to watch the matches between Australia and England but unfortunately I do not have satellite television at home. Does anyone have a favourite cricket player? |

My fav is Gilly... mostly because we went to the same school! LOL Other than that I only like them based on the cuteness factor Australia is one up in the Ashes... 1 down... 4 to go England has done fairly well on day one of the second test I'm told! |

Kriss, for your help, cricket is a sport that's very popular in Britain, Australia, Africa and the islands in the West Indies and that sort of area. It's a bit like baseball, in that a man throws a ball at you and you hit it with a bat. Cricket batsman But unlike baseball, there are no bases. There is one pitch, with stumps at either end, and the two batsmen run back and forth between the two. Cricket Pitch (from a video game, but hey...) Each time the batsmen complete a run between the stumps is a run. But if the bowler throws the ball, and it hits the stumps behind the batsman, or the ball is caught on the full, the batsman is out. The rest of the bowler's team are fielding. More cricket In a game of cricket, one team bats first, with 11 players. When all of them are out, the teams switch. If the first team scored, say, 100 runs, then the second team would have to match or better that score to win. That's the simple way of explaining it. It's much more complicated, but that the jist of it. |

I could have sworn I posted here, saying I love the Australian team most and South Africa second (don't tell me countrymen :D) and that Gilchrist is me favourite. I'm happy that Australia won! Lol, I'll be a bit torn when Aus plays SA. *bites nails in advance* Wait, are we going to play against Australia anytime soon? *hopes so*We used to have a big billboard with Ricky Ponting on it (I think it was a watch ad, as in tick-tocks. Not a "Watch Aus play!" ad. ) Unfortunately the billboard has been replaced by some woman.
 No more eye-candy for me.
