Very good, and mostly original. But how much can you rip off Star Wars in a single series? Hasn't anyone gone up to the guy and been like "Dude! Lay off a bit! Its getting ridiculous!!" The stuff about Morzan, Murtagh and Eragon at the end of Eldest!??! GOD! Reeks of Vader and Luke, and Palpatine with Galbatorix. Don't get me wrong, I love these books because they're just like.... what I've always wanted to see. Just a crazy no-holds-barred fantasy book filled with swordplay and magic and dragons. Not as good as Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, and I think about on par with Narnia for me; well, better than Narnia, but only because I only like the 2-book span of all the Pevensie children, being LWW and PC. Anyway, if you like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, or Star Wars, you should read the Inheritance Trilogy, being now only books 1-2, Eragon and Eldest. Its a good series, very exciting and fast-paced, and amusing in that you're like "Wow, what a rip-off, but in an awesome way that I've never seen before!" Its weird, but cool.

edit: Anybody?... read?........ these?..........there's a movie coming out? Yes? Anyone? Bueller?......Bueller?........??.............?????..................??

 I saw the trailer for it. Didn't much care for it.

:P It's already been done. It's called the Lord of the Rings.

 the movie is such a rip-off...

I think that its going to be pretty darn good. The book was, so hopefully the movie will live up to it.

This is the cover of the Eragon soundtrack by Patrick Doyle, recent composer of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I hope this lives up to that score. I love that cover, mostly because Saphira looks awesome, not like in the theatrical poster, where she looks totally fake.

I've never read the book. I know my daughter's into dragons and wants to see it. I have to admit it looked kind of interesting. I think I'll take her when it comes out.

Eragon Fan Trailer 2Here's a trailer I made for it:

edit: No Coldmetal, you are dead wrong. Read the books and see why. I can say 100% as a thrid-party outside that this book is not a ripoff of The Lord of the Rings, otherwise I wouldn't like it. Go to the IMDB boards for Eragon, and you'll find out what I'm alluding to.

Ok, same deal with this thread as with Harry Potter... you can have a all in thread in either books or movie but not one in both.

Let me know which you want so I can merge them :)

 You don't like Lord of the Rings? You insane. Those books are the greatest works of literature of all time. And the movies were great. Return of the King is by far the greatest movie in a LONG time. I hope the Hobbit will be as good...

Let me refraise myself... The movie looks like the Lord of the Rings, only with different characters and a dragon. The setting looks almost the same, and from seeing the trailer all I could tell instead of there being a hobbit with a ring trying to save the world, there's a farm boy with a dragon trying to save the world.

But then again, any movie that takes place in a fantasy world with swords will be compared to Lord of the Rings. Just how any horror movie with an alien will be compared to Alien.

 I can't believe you said that. I love Lord of the Rings, and all of Tolkien's work, which is why I said I wouldn't like Eragon if it was a rip-off of it. It is, however, a big rip-off of another of my favorite movies/stories, yet I find myself liking it anyway, because although the plot is similar, ahem, identical, its in a polar-opposite world and has a lot of original stuff layed in throughout it.

That is a much more thoughtful statement. Any genre piece is always going to be compared to whatever the best one is, so you can't judge it until you see it.

(Oh, and Two Towers is better than Return of the King! :P And I like the book of the Hobbit a lot more than the books of LotR, but I think the LotR movies will kick the crap out of the Hobbit movie, especially if its not done by good ol' PJ. Sad, is it not? :( )

Today I saw a big poster advertising that it's coming soon. (Is it not out in other countries yet? Are we surprisingly up-to-date with this one?)

The poster looked good, I would like to see this movie because of three of my favourite actors: Robert Carlyle (usually he gets a *swoon* out of me, but in the poster he looked creepy. Bad guy, right?) John Malkovich and Jeremy Irons.

Please tell if it's any good when you see it. :)

Movie came out today. Just saw it. Pretty good... LotR owns it, as does Potter; Narnia was a better-done movie, but from reading the books and just kinding of filling in the plot holes, etc. I like Eragon better. Its weird, like with Potter, you know whats supposed to have happened in between scenes and stuff so you just know whats going on better. But like, anyone who sees the movie and hasn't read the book, I have no idea how they can be expected to know that Arya is an elf, when they never say she is and she doesn't look any different than a human, and also they say the world 'elves' once. And the dwarves aren't dwarves, they're just kind of short, but like 5' 6", its ridiculous. There were way too many shots of people riding horses in between big action pieces (which were short and disappointing), and they left out more than they did in PoA and GoF combined. I'm not trying to just rank on it, I did really like it, but I just don't know why.... there were so many screw-ups... whatever, its good, go see it if you like fantasy movies. Jeremy Irons was good, the telepathy thing between Eragon and Saphira was actually pretty good (though some of Rachel Weisz's lines as Saphira were just teribble), effects were awesome, and Durza pretty much carried the movie, he was badass, though I don't understand what is so special about a dragon in the movie when he can just conjure up something bigger that practically kills Saphira in like 5 seconds.... whatever. Go see it and find out for yourself.

I haven't seen it yet, but I want too, and at the same time I don't...
I have pretty much given up on there being a movie as good as the book it was based on.
Harry Potter let me down bad, but Eragon is probably in my Top 5 and if its WORSE than HP I will be super pissed. I wish the authors could write scripts/direct!

Anyways, I don't think Eragon is a rip off of any other fantasy novels, because then every fantasy book would be critisized.
Most fantasy books have atleast a hero, a really evil guy, and a wizard in common.
LotR--Frodo/Solomon/Gandalf
Eragon/King Galbatorix/Brom
Harry Potter/Voldemort/Dumbledore
Belgariad--Garion/Torak/Belgarath
The Mage War Series-- Skandranon/Maar/Urtho
...and it goes on. And usually the end up fighting each other.
Some have dragons and stuff, btu really all fantasy are pretty much the same. I hate how people are bashing Eragon because of this! Its been like this forever.

As for the movie, I will hopefully see it soon... I have been waiting for this day for like, two years!

I didn't say its a ripoff of LotR, its a rip of Star Wars. Jeez. Anyway, it was pretty good, but not as good as Harry Potter. Or Lord of the Rings. I'm going to see it again because I have really mixed feelings and I have to decide which ones are right, savvy?

Not to worry, Wolf. I'm sure Riot was talking about it being bashed in general, not about your comment. Don't take other peoples's comments personally. :)

As for me, I still want to go see it, especially after seeing the trailers on TV. The dragons look great. At least, they look great in the little clip I've them in.

I especially liked the detailed plot analysis, oh wait...

I would like to see this film. I haven't read any of the books but I have great admiration for Jeremy Irons and Robert Carlyle. From what I gather it is Star Wars in Middle Earth or possibly even Dragonheart in Narnia but I'll watch it at least once as it looks quite fun.
