I may not have a drop of Jewish blood in me and despite being raised Anglican yet abandoning any pretence of caring past the age of twelve I plan on celebrating Chrismukkah. Technically as one with no firm religious conviction I should be more a Giftmas or Festivus person but Chrismukkah has already endeared itself to me.

Anyone else hijacking religious festivals for selfish reasons?

I mix em all together to make Christmahannakwanza.

It's funny to yell it randomly in the halls.

I'm definitely celebrating Christmas. However, I was invited to a Chrismukkah party tomorrow night. It's an annual event some good friends of mine host. He's Christian and she's Jewish (sort of).

 I do that too, lol. I also like Festivus. Good holidays for the politically correct  I just like the holiday time. Technically, its Christmas for me, but, I mean I'm more apt to say "happy holidays" than anything else.. thats what its all about, lol.

The first time I heard of Chrismukkah was when I lived in England for six months. (Good times :) )

But the first time I actually had what you would call Chrismukkah was last year. I lived with a wonderful Jewish family in the US and they not only had Hanukkah (I also got eight days of presents handed to me! :yay:) but they also visited friends of theirs who celebrated Christmas, so we also got presents there. for host family. :)

This year it's back to Christmas and I'm fine with that. :) This year I'm going to my sister, bro-in-law and nephew! :yay:

Well, I'm a Church-going Roman Catholic, so it's always Christmas. And considering I've only ever been to Catholic schools with other Catholics, I've never celebrated Chrismukkah or anyhting. In fact, I hadn't even heard of Festivus or Giftmas until reading this thread. But the whole concept of Hanukkah (sp?) has always appealed to me. Hopefully I'll get to experience it one day.

I believe Festivus originated on Seinfeld. Giftmas is a will_k_williams original (as is the International Pie Day on February 11th).

 That's a good one! It's so true sometimes.

I've heard of Christmahannukwanzakah, and I like to say it (try it! It's fun), but I mostly just celebrate Christmas. I really like hearing about the traditions that other people have in their other holidays that they celebrate, though.

I'll be celebrating Christmas this year. I would love to do some of those other ones, though. Festivus, in particular, always appealed to me.

I actually read an article today about Festivus. I'll just share some things about it that I remember.

It does come from Seinfeld. One of the writers for that show's parents actually came up with the holiday, although their version was very different from the one on the show. Theirs was a celebration of... I think it was their first date... or the first time they met... something like that.

There is a Festivus flavor Ben & Jerry's ice cream and a Festivus wine.

There are three hallmarks to any Festivus celebration.

1. The Festivus Pole. In place of a Christmas tree, a single, unadorned aluminum pole is put up to defy the commercialization of Christmas.

2. The Airing of Grievances. Everyone at dinner goes around the table and tells everyone else at the table all they have done over the past year that annoyed or angered them.

3. Feats of Strength. The head of the household challenges one other person of his or her choosing to a wrestling match. Festivus is not over until the head of the household has been pinned.

Doesn't that sound like a wonderful holiday?

I celebrate Christmas.. never heard of Chrismukkah until The O.C :)

Never really heard of many people celebrating Hanukka (how do you really spell it?) here in the merry ol land of Oz :)

I would love to have a white christmas one year... and not almost die from the heat! LOL

There's no mas like Legolasmas.

But for the December celebrations, I go with Christmas. Not for any religious beliefs, but just because it's what my family celebrates (partly with the beliefs, mostly without), and I roll with it. I may even go to church with my grandmother, if she wants me to. There's no point in fighting about it anyway. Some people say Christmas should be less about commercialisation and more about religion, but for me it's about more than religion. It's about what religion should be about but rarely is; about love and togetherness. It just happens to fall on a religious holiday because it developed that way historically; any other day, and any other name, will do.
