There was some fuss last year in Sydney because some non-Christians wanted the Christmas decorations taken down form the city, saying it was insulting. It was all a bit wierd actually. I don't care who celebrates Christmas- it's technically a religious festival, but nearly everyone, Christian or not, celebrates it. And personally, those who don't shouldn't try and stop those who do. As Dutch so beautifully put it, it become about more than just religion now, and we should, at least for one day a year, put aside our differences and just enjoy the season. |

I've never had a white Christmas myself, living in California. Unless you count fog. Lots and lots of fog... When my mom was a little girl she actually thought the song "White Christmas" was about the fog. That's what happens when you live where it never snows. Your entire worldview gets all floopy.

I don't find much reason myself to celebrate Chrismakkah or any variation of it--I used to celebrate Christmas with my family, but I stopped when I decided that I shouldn't celebrate what should be a religious holiday when I am not religious. Instead, I still do gifts and such (and will help with the tree if the family wants it up) , but I prefer to observe my holiday on the winter solctice--it's when my family hosts the neighborhood party, and also is the shortest day of the year--what's not to celebrate about that? The days will get longer, and that's always good in my mind.
Well...I think in that case that they were not trying to stop people from celebrating Christmas. Religions and holidays are always a touchy subject because when something is said, it always feels like its an attack against either side. When people such as myself object to such things, we're not objecting to people celebrating a holiday, usually we object if people put a manger scene in front of a courthouse, or a government building--where here in the US we have always made a big deal about the separation of church and state.
Well, if it's any consolation, it looks like here in southern New England, we won't be seeing a white anything anytime soon. It's been in the higher 40s to lower 50s. It doesn't feel like December. By this time last year, we'd already had a snow day. We've had one dusting at my university, and it stuck for about three hours before it melted. <_< What happened to good ol'predictably unpredictable cold New England weather? |

Yay! thanks Kriss! Tomb, I've never had a White Christmas either....it doesn't snow at all in Australia..well, it does on the Alps, but that wouldn't help, considering Christmas is in summer here and it definately doesn't snow in summer. We have grey Christmas...smoke from the fires. We always have terrible bushfires this time of year. But Dad said something about next Christmas and Scandinavia...now that would be cold. One day... |

Despite being from England (close to London) I can't remember having a single white Christmas. If we do have snow it doesn't normally arrive until January or February. Christmas day is usually just grey and wet, festive huh? I don't know where the White Christmas myth came from but it wasn't here. Will |

I could never imagine what it would be like to not have a white Chrismas!! I think I'd just die! You should come to the U.S. for Christmas one year, it's awesome!!!!
