I have a few questions about video-editing, more specifically fan-trailery-video-type videos, savvy? Like, fan trailers. I've recently gotten Adobe Premiere (about 2 months ago). I have made 10 fan-trailers/music videos so far, and I want to make a really nice, long trailer compiling all of my favorite movies, including Star Wars, Pirates and Lord of the Rings. Now, the videos that I am using to re-edit are all downloaded from the interent, like trailers and documentaries and such, mostly from Movie-Web.com. My predicament is this: I can't find any videos of Star Wars Episodes I-II, or IV-VI. Anyone know where I can get some? Not to be picky..... well, yest, TO be picky, they need to be widescreen and at least 420 x 240 resolution. Yeah. Also, if anyone knows what program to use to record video from a DVD, that'd be great. Thanks. By the way, here's my Youtube Channel, with all 10 videos: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=wolfarcher |

We're going to let this main post stay, but I'd like to caution people in this. Downloading movies from sourses on the internet is illegal, as is ripping them and sharing them--the same goes for music. It is alright to have questions pertaining to the editing of music videos, or good programs for such, or perhaps even programs that allow you to capture video for such uses, but please do not discuss where you can get such files illegally. Such discussion and talk can get not only yourselves in trouble, but also this site. Most discussion boards of a more...official (I'm struggling for the right word here) type, do not allow such discussions and will delete posts. I think it's unfair to delete all of them, since I see nothing wrong with music vids--they are simply another way for us to share our love of the film, and characters, etc, and I believe it rather helps the studio than detracts...but the point is, we don't want to see Parley as an entity get in trouble for providing ways, links, or means to the illegal sharing of files. |

I'm not benefitting monetarily in any way from making fan trailers.... all I'm doing is taking clips from DVDs, not burning the DVDs. I've never heard any complaints about any fan trailers before, and many of them certainly aren't only from released footage online. Studios can benefit from fan trailers, and it shows them that people are interested enough in their film to use their own time to try and promote it. Look at Firefly. Perfect example. If not for the Browncoats' guerilla marketing, Firefly would never have made it to the bigscreen. |

Wolfarcher, I was not implying that you were benefitting monetarily, nor that you specifically were stealing films. Besides, whether or not you get money for it, pirating movies is still illegal--because if you give a movie out to ten people, then they use that, that's ten less tickets, or DVDs or anything sold, and that cuts into studio profits. And if you had read my post you would have noticed that I made nearly the same point that you did. |

wolfarcher, take a step down off your high horse and read Alia's message carefully... It is NOT directed solely at you, rather a gentle reminder and warning to all. You are, afterall, asking for a place to find files, just because you don't intend them to be illegal ones, does not mean that it could result in people trying to help you and point you in the direction of said files... |
