I know where you're coming from Tomb. There's no way that Elizabeth would go from well-meaning-yet-useless-in-a-fight to super-ninja-pirate within a year. If she had abandoned Port Royal and pursued a life at sea it would be slightly more understandable. The governor's daughter having a few fencing lessons (even one a day) still wouldn't turn her into Zorro in one year.

Yes, but as I mentioned earlier she tried to pull the sword out of the.... thing. That one thing above the fireplace. And she also had read about Jack already. And in the very first scene (where she's 4 feet tall and has freckles), you see that she's fascinated by pirates and her father doesnt want her to be. So maybe she acted like she was "well-meaning-yet-useless-in-a-fight" but she was a little more "super-ninja-pirate " than we thougth she was.

I always wanted to be a pirate and despite having taken fencing lessons for a while I'm certainly no ninja-pirate. Not bad in a fist fight but a pointy metal stick is a bit different. It was a painful moment when I realised I was never going to be an ace swordfighter. Although I'm not sure whether or not freckles add mad skills.

I agree with Will. I've been obsessed with pirates my entire life, and I've held a sword, and I would still be completely useless in a fight. I just don't think it's realistic, or even very enjoyable, her character development, from my point of view.

Oh, and, as kind of a side note, does anyone else think she looks blonde in the pics they've released? It's disturbing. Maybe she's spent a lot of time in the sun now and it lightened her hair.

But did you live in times where everyone used swords all the time?

Besides, Will practiced three hours a day and he's pro. No one ever taught him. And if Will can become a master sowrdsman, so can Elizabeth.

Three hours a day for ten years, not one. Plus generally people didn't actually use swords as much as you'd think and certainly not the daughter of a governor. She might be able to become a master swords...person but take into account that they were unmarried and therefore unlikely to spend any time together without a chaperone and not a great deal of time together at all. I sincerely doubt she would have been given a great amount of time to practice. There isn't any proof that Binky was not taught, it's assumed but never clarified. Remember they were also around in the age of smallpox, scurvy and syphilis and they don't have those either (one would hope).

Did you know it took Keira 3 months (I think) to handle the sword!

Yes but it's different learning a routine where you practice the same moves in the same situations day in, day out for three months. It's the same with anything. You could practice the same three songs on a guitar for three months. At the end of those three months you'd be able to play those songs very well and you'd have a much greater aptitude for the instrument but you'd still not be a great guitarist.

I voted at last. Guess who got my vote? :D

Jack will always be my favourite. Even now with my Bill Nighy obsession I can see that Jack can't be upstaged by anyone in my eyes.

I knew Jack was gonna win the poll. But my favorite character would be Elizabeth. I don't know why. This may be a stupid reason but I love her clothes. ;) Epecially her wedding dress. Plus she's been linked with all three male characters. Lucky lady :)

I love all of them.
They all have good and bad qualities. But can't go past Jack.
