Who will win? The iconic popcorn or the almighty chips/crisps?

I prefer chips myself, though both suit the occasion, i don't like the squeeky noise in my mouth i get chewing popcorn, it distracts me more than the crackling sound you get munching chips.
Besides, chips are less... corny... omg @ myself.

I'm not a big fan of most crisps. There are a few outstanding exceptions to this but generally I don't really care for them.
Salted popcorn, however, is a different kettle of fish entirely. I love the stuff. I got a microwave from my mother for my birthday. Partly because it makes life a lot easier and partly because I missed microwave popcorn. There is nothing like movie night with a tonne of the stuff at the ready.

In short: popcorn.

"Neither, my superior intellect came up with something that pwns em' both."

:D Not that I have a superior intellect, but I wanted to say "Neither"

Chips are OK, but I never had them with a movie.
Popcorn loves to wedge itself between my teeth and then it goes ahead to mess with my insides so ...No.
Sorry, popcorn. We could have had something special. But you're no good for me.

I would say Whispers, but you pay the equivalent of 1 British pound to get about 7 of them in a packet...that's when you buy them at the movies. So also not chocolate, strangely enough.

Here's the something that pwns them both!! NOTHING! :yay: Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have nothing to eat while watching a movie.

I used to have Haribo at the cinema, it makes less noise and is pretty snackable, but with a large coke as well my stomach feels like it's rejecting me so I stopped with the snacks and just stuck to drinks, as I get pretty thirsty at times.

I'll be honest, if I go to the theater I sneak snacks in. I'm not paying the prices they have at the theater for snacks.

My favorite think to sneak in is probably a box of Jujy Fruit. They're in a box, not wrapping that rustles. Plus, they're chewy, not crunchy, so there's no sounds while you're eating.

No, yeah, I voted "neither."

Neither.
At home, I generally don't eat anything while watching a movie, or I'll eat random snacks (or even fruit *shockgasp*). At the cinema, I occasionally get popcorn, but generally not. I used to always buy Choco Crossies, which are wonderfully chocolatey, and the info on the package is hilarious. ('This product is good for you because it's full of sugar, and therefore gives you energy!') But I've stopped buying those... They've been made twice as expensive in the last few years, and I'm not buying into that crap.

If I get anything, it will be popcorn with extra butter (and lots of napkins to go with). But sometimes, I don't get anything. It just depends on my mood, I guess.

Tomb, I can't eat Jujy Fruits or anything like that. Many, many moons ago I was eating some that were maybe a little stale, and my jaw popped out of joint for a second then went right back again. It didn't hurt really, but it freaked me out a little and now I can't enjoy them anymore.

Supposedly the rules are you're not allowed to take your own hot food into a cinema, there's no rules about random snacky stuff or drinks so there's no need to sneak it in, someone who worked in a cinema told me that so it has to be true.

I don't really sneak it though, I just have big pockets I can fit huge bags of sweets inside, saves carrying it all there, although no one ever sees so it is still kind of sneaky in a way. :D

I've known people that worked at cinemas to order pizza to take into the theatre with them. One rule for them and another for the rest of us I guess. I don't normally buy cinema food as it's drastically overpriced. I usually just take a bottle of water in with me, it's a security blanket of a sort. If I have the water there I don't feel thirsty, without it I dry up, It's all psychosomatic.

In the past I have taken the usual contraband in with me (sweets, crisps, pre-cooked bags of microwave popcorn, bottles of coke etc.) but I think my most impressive stash to date was when I went to see I, Robot. Three of us took in foot long Subway sandwiches and cans of Guinness, sat in the front row and got away with it.

I went for both!

Yeeeeeaaaah... I do like my snacks with a movie... But I don't have them at the same time, if that's what this poll was enquiring about... :D Although, with popcorn I do have to have a massive drink... and after I've eaten it it makes my lips feel as though they've gone all wrinkly- like your fingers when you've spent too long in the bath!

Something else that I like to eat when watching a movie is mint imperials... They're not too sugary, not too sweet... and oh-so-minty.... Mmmmm... :P

Popcorn all the way!

Although I don't bother with it at home (we do have a popcorn machine but it only makes plain popcorn, where's the fun in that?) I can't go to the cinema without having a medium bucket of salted popcorn (I refuse to have the sweetened stuff! It's VILE!). The only times I haven't had popcorn at the cinema are when we were so late there wasn't time before the movie or they just didn't have Salted (for some insane reason my local cinema has like five bins of Sweetened popcorn and ONE for salted). I haven't been to the cinema since last July so I'm REALLY missing popcorn. I should just try and work out which type they use and see if I can buy it but I'm too lazy/forgetful).

Don't get me wrong though, I LOVE crips/chips (so much that I've just finished my third bag of the day, yes I'm an addict) but popcorn just seems like more of the Cinema experience to me (even if it is really expensive).

Cinema food is overpriced, the popcorn I have if I ever get it costs about a quid in a supermarket but three or more at the cinema, the coke is ok since that's cooled so I don't mind paying, but I'd never go for popcorn in the place itself.

Ooh, you got alcohol in there? the cinema near me has its own bar area but I have no idea if you're allowed to take the drinks inside the screen itself, I know there was warnings when for some reason they were showing the World Cup, ugh, football's boring enough on TV without it being on a big screen, but there's never been anything to say about not being able to take it in at other times.

In the supermarket you can buy a pack of three bags of microwave popcorn for under £2. I think even the smallest tub of popcorn at the local Odeon is over that price so there's no contest really. I know where you're coming from about the drinks but if I want cold Coke I just pop into the nearest newsagent along the way.
Considering how extortionate the price of cinema tickets is these days I honestly don't understand how they can charge so much for drinks and snacks on top of that. Especially as the projectionists at my local cinema all appear to be blind and deaf considering the picture quality and volume level. Is it any wonder people are resorting to piracy more and more these days?
Anyway, (I strayed a little off topic there,) There is no bar in Chelmsford cinema and as far as I'm aware alcohol is prohibited. I think we were just lucky as it was an afternoon performance and we hid everything until we were safely seated. I think we left our empty beer cans in there though.

Well if I remember my Film Studies lessons properly (the boring lessons where we looked at the industry rather than films themselves) the price of the tickets mostly goes back to the studios (i.e. the people making the films) so the Cinemas make their money from the snacks and drinks.

Of course this is where someone replies and says that's complete rubbish but whatever.

No I've heard that too but still, you'd think that people would be more inclined to buy cinema food if it were cheaper, I know I would. I just refuse to pay £3 or more for a bit of flavoured syrup topped up with a pint of soda water. The profit margin they are making on that is gargantuan. If they lowered their prices to a reasonable standard I wouldn't end up buying stuff elsewhere first.
