Today, March 14 is Pi day. What is Pi day, you might ask? Pi is a Greek letter that is used to stand for an irrational (I'm quite sure the number is irrational, someone correct me if I am wrong) real number useful in mathematics, physics, (and as I am told) engineering. It looks something like this: 3.14159.... and goes on, and on, and on, and on. So from that you get 3.14 or 3/14 = March 14. The most pi time of March 14 is at 1:59 (usually PM when people are typically awake), but really why just restrain it to that time? Pi is important, in very basic geometry because of it's use in several equations (you either love them or hate them, but based off of what I've heard it seems more people on here tend to hate math as a rule but...hopefully I am wrong). One of the ones you learn earliest is for calculating the area of a circle. Without pi....that would be possible, because A = (Pi)R^2 (or area equals pi times the radius of the circle squared). This means that by getting round cakes, or pizzas, or pies it is the perfect way to celebrate, by both calculating the area of the round object, and of course, by eating it.Pi has far too many other mathematical uses and such that it features into to go into completely here (and...I have two papers I should be working on right now). So, eat something round to help celebrate, and wish people you know "Happy Pi day!" If you don't have cake, pie, or pizza to celebrate, don't worry, even a round cookie will do! And for a random fact about Pi day, MIT (Massachusetts Institue of Technology) tries to mail out their letters to students so that they will arrive on this day, Pi day (and it's a big celebration day there too), but unfortunately they were delayed this year so that won't be happening. Sad, but we can console ourselves by eating pie...and stuff like it. |

There's an entire day dedicated to Pi?! Wow... I must say, even I (who isn't really that mathmatical), appreciates the wonders of Pi... So many things would just be darn impossible without it... |

Happy Pi Day! Ah, wonderful Pi, 3.14. Without it, the whole world would be square. Ironically, it tends to be the squares who celebrate most. (J/K Alia. Love ya )

There's always Pi Approximation day-- 22/7 And that's written correctly for all those who like to have the day precede the month.
Oh don't worry--I thought the bit about the squares and circles was greatly funny.

Aw, I mostly missed pi day... Although... actually, I didn't miss it at all. As Will pointed out, on this side of the Atlantic, pi day wouldn't be today; it would be 31 April! We can all celebrate pi day again at that point. Huzzah! (And now I'm wanting to make a joke concerning Magnum PI, but it's not working.) |

LMAO! That's hilarious! And just plain true! Oh man... I'll never be able to watch that series and not think about the pi moustache. Unfortunately for me, there are no reruns of it here at the moment. |

*falls out of chair laughing* Oh, Will, that is totally amazing! *bows and worships* So now there is a new thing to do/watch on Pi day--it should be a requirement now.

Yay for Pi Day! I actually forgot until I got to math class and my teacher wrote it on the board. I was sad that I didn't actually have any pie to eat, but I did eat a round cookie today, so that will just have to do. Anyway, yes, pi is an amazing number. I know very few of the digits, but knowing that it works out is good enough for me. ![]() And Will, that picture is brilliant.

There is an International Day of Pie but we missed it this year. It's on February 11th, I created it about 4 years ago in the hope that people would give me pie for my birthday. It didn't work. I still eat pie though. Will |

Happy Pi Day everybody!!! I hope you all had a wonderful day and ate lots of yummy things! (I ate a brownie... which wasn't actually a circle... but it was still good, lol.) I can't believe I almost forgot this day. I love it! Pi Day and the Ides of March are right next to each other. It's like two days of pure heaven for me! I just feel sorry for e. It's more important than pi, really, but it can't have it's own day. Why, why is there no 72nd of February?

Yeah, I had a chicken quesadilla today. It was half a circle cut into 3 wedges. Does that count? |

72: 7+2=9. February=2 so 9+2=11. Pi day + e (11) = PIE DAY! To me that maths makes perfect sense because I'm an idiot and couldn't really comprehend anything else. Will |
