Hello everyone, i'm sure at some point you came across a translation that made you crack up. Maybe something you read while on holiday, on t.v. or on the internet?
Well, wherever, literaly translating words from another language to english is a sure way for ensueing some hilarity, so lets share our finds and laugh.

I'm Dutch and i read a couple of these on another site and added some of my own:

Dutch: Literal translations - actual meaning
Nou Moe!: Now Tired! - Exclemation, used when you're suprised.
Helaas Pindakaas: Unfortunately peanutbutter - When something doesn't turn out like expected/wanted.
Eigen schuld dikke bult: Own fault big bump - You can't blame someone else when something goes wrong.
Wentelteefje: Rollaroundsmallbitch - French toast (with cinnamon)
Mierenneuker: antf*cker - somebody who f*cks ants, well not really but someone who thinks small. very small, as small as an ant. Krijg nou tieten!: Grow tits! - Exclamation of unpleasant surpise, to which the traditional witty riposte is:
Hoe groot wil je ze hebben?: - How large do you want them?
Van de pot gerukt: Yanked from the (toilet) pot - Said about anyting idiotic. Pejorative is Van de pot gepleurd (Fallen off the pot) which implies even greater stupidity.
De kat uit de boom kijken: To look the cat out of the tree - Not plunging into a venture, holding back until things become more clear. Being prudent.
Komt voor de bakker!: Comes for the bakery! - When you're really going to do something.
Klaar is Kees!: Kees is done. - I'm not sure who Kees is, but he must be very popular. When Kees is done, everybody is done.
Dussss: Thussss - To handover the talking stick to your discussion partner.

Yeah! I like this, I love seeing how similar Dutch and Afrikaans is.

We have that one too. "Die kat uit die boom kyk."

neuk

:o That's what it means?!
In Afrikaans "neuk" means to hit someone. "Opneuk" means to seriously beat someone up. :D

Klaar is Kees!

 Good explanation.
We have one like that: "Dis klaar met Kees" That means that it's over too...I think.

Pindakaas. I've heard that it means peanutbutter in Dutch. Our word for peanutbutter is "grondboontjiebotter".
The literal translation for grondboontjiebotter is ground-bean butter. Silly words.
