Okay, so here's the story... (I hope this is okay to post here.) I have incredibly oily hair. Seriously, totally, and unfathomably oily hair. I have to wash it daily, whereas my mom and most of my friends only wash theirs every other day (or less... ). It's disgustingly greasy within 15-16 hours of washing it. Like, you could fry chicken with the amount of oil I've got. And when it's oily like that, it's lank, flat and super-shiney - in a bad way. Completely gross. Are there any kinds of shampoos made for my type of hair? I've noticed there's every sort of moisturizing shampoo in the world, in every brand imaginable, but that's definitely not cool in my hair. It just makes my problem worse. Usually the best I can find is the "no major issues" stuff for "normal" hair. (What the heck is "normal" hair, anyway?!) But even that really doesn't help any. A lot of times the extra body/volumizing stuff helps, too, but my hair (when freshly cleaned, anyway) already has a lot of body and volume, and with the help of the extra body shampoo, it sometimes gets to be a little too much. Is there anything made specifically for oily hair? Any brands that are better than most? I'm desperate here! If any other specifics are needed, I have short (chin-length), layered brown hair (kinda like this) that has been color-treated in the past, but is not now. I almost never use conditioner (it makes it worse!), and I live in America (so most foreign brands are going to be too hard and too expensive to get). HELP! I'm at my wit's end with this. Oh, and hey, if anyone else has any girly, beauty and hygeine related questions to ask, feel free to speak up! |

Have a hunt around in the haircare section in the shops, there's sure to be a shampoo for oily hair. I think Sunsilk brought out a shampoo for greasy hair. Your hair'll tell you what one it likes And if it looks greasy, maybe pull it back into a tight ponytail/bun or hide it with a bandana or headscarf which is great for warmer weather since it protects your hair from the sun as well. Good luck with it I'm not obsessed with my hair...why d'you ask?

You could try Redken..it's pretty expensive though..$10.50 per bottle. I think they have stuff for greasy hair.

I had another thought, maybe you could see if there is a hair mask for your hair type? |

I'm seriously the last person to ask for beauty advice, since I don't do the whole bottles-and-jars-for-everything thing, but I do read stuff every now and then that I remember, so... I figured I'd tell you something I read once. The thing with oily hair is, if you wash it very often, and/or with a lot of shampoo, you remove all the oil, but that only makes your hair desperate for some good old protecting oil - so the more you wash, the more you're making your hair produce oil. Not that you want to omit washing your hair altogether, of course - you just need to find a good balance. If you want to wash your hair every day (and I can understand if you do), use only a little shampoo, and only wash your hair once (i.e. none of that 'rinse, repeat' nonsense). I know it seems to make no sense that washing less results in less grease, but it does, when you think about it. You can only make your hair so clean; after that, you risk damaging it, and your body is programmed to take counter-measures to that. What can also help, in long greasy hair (I know you said your hair isn't long, but since this is likely the only time in my life that I'll be giving beauty advice, I'm going to make the most of it), is to only wash the hair near the scalp, and not lather up the ends. Dried out ends will again only make your scalp want to grease everything up more, to protect it from sun and wind and all that. I hope you find something that works for you. |

The only time I've ever had an issue with my hair getting dried out was a few years ago when I accidentally dyed my hair black for Halloween. Well, I mean, I meant to dye it black, but I thought I'd gotten a wash-out dye, and it turned out to be permanent.
So I finally had to have it stripped to bring it back to brown, which completely killed it. But that was a few years ago, and all the two-toned, stripped, dead stuff has since been repaired and/or cut off.I've read about how washing makes it oilier (that SO doesn't look like a real word...), but... I just can't do it. I can't bear to sleep with my hair that greasy and nasty. So I shower every night. And I never do the "rinse and repeat" thing, because I have noticed that it makes it worse. |

I was going to suggest Sunsilk like Cat did because I know that they created a line of shampoos for all kinds of hair types. I was looking at their website and didn't see one for oily hair, but it may be there. Also, they apparently have these "Hairapy" guys (terrible, that's their new slogan  Hairapy=hair therapy) who are supposed to be experts about hair. They have a page where you can ask them questions, so maybe they could answer your question. Anyway, here is a link to the Sunsilk website. Sorry I can't be more help! |
