Press release

POTC is one of 44 new films to be added to the catalog of the 400 best American movies for the American Film Institute, and is up for consideration to be in the top 100, which will be announced in July. Just for you who don't know much about the AFI, they catalog, restore, and name the best films in American history.

Wow, that's quite a big honor, don't ya think? Still, I doubt POTC would win against... oh, I don't know... The Godfather, Citizen Kane, Casablanca...

the sad thing about the AFI is they ignore all kinds of movies. The only ones that win in their list things are Casablanca and Gone With the Wind.

I mean, what's a more noteable quote? "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." or "May the force be with you." or "Luke, I am your father."?

They're all good quotes, but what they do is give the nod to the old movies, regardless of things like the movie's effect on pop culture and the like.

Wow, that's really cool that Pirates is being considered. :) Here's hoping it wins.

So... what films would it be pushing out, I wonder?

Really, AFI, the Academy, they are all just stuck-up.

"We don't like entertaining movies. We're above entertainment. We only like movies that are quite dull but make you think, usually about some political or sexual thing you don't care about. Or a dead guy no one has heard of. But I digress, films that make you happy aren't good enough for us. We can only honor overly long movies that make you feel like you have no soul."

I think the head of the Academy said that. But really, a lot of the movies they pick are good, but its that they only pick movies like that, never pure popcorn movies, even great popcorn movies, like Star Wars or Pirates of the Caribbean. Lord of the Rings is the only movie I can think of that kicked-ass and still won Academy Awards. I'm really surprised they're even considering The Matrix, Prisoner of Azkaban, Pirates and Spider-Man 2 in there. They're probably not going to get in, though. But still, that at least gives me a little more fatih (so, any faith) in their abilities to pick good movies.

Cold: You got it all wrong. They honor other movies, just the top honors go to LANDMARK movies like GWTW and Casablanca.

Tomb: Not quite sure exactly... Would anyone like to compare the new list to the old one?

Wolf: I kind of doubt that the head of the Academy said that. The Departed was an entertaining film and that won. Seriously, just because there are a lot of films on there that you have not seen does not make it a bad list.

Hahaha, that was a joke, man. Jeez. Anyway, I know, I said that they do occasionally honor good movies, though I did forget about that one because its so recent. Titanic is good, so is that, LotR is amazing, I mean they get it right sometimes. But the original Star Wars NOT WINNING BEST PICTURE in 1977 makes me hate them.

Them giving Cher an acting Oscar makes me hate them, but hey, what are you going to do?

You got it all wrong, ID.

Last time I checked, STAR WARS was a landmark film.

Star Wars should have won Best Picture of 1977. Period. No doubt about it, yet it didn't. Most hyped-up, crazy box-office smash movie ever, and it didn't win Best Picture. THAT is why we hate the Academy.

*laughs more at ID not getting the sarcasm (no offense, I'm sure it was just a careless mistake) but its still hilarious to read that*

And last time I checked, STAR WARS WAS ALSO HONORED!

And besides, Annie Hall is a good movie. It is worthy to hold the title of Best Picture of 77. If you hold something against the Academy or the AFI because they did something stupid, then that is your problem, not there's.

People could say that the Academy is wrong for not giving Citizen Kane the Oscar, regarded by many as the greatest film of the 20th century. I don't. I don't see why anyone would. We all make mistakes.

Haven't seen Annie Hall, but I seriously doubt its better than the original Star Wars. And that is one helluva mistake, if you ask me. Not to mention Empire wasn't even nominated.

I'll have to agree with you on that one!

The Empire Strikes back deserved a nomination. Ordinary People? Please... not that good....
