Jack's Stories; Which do you want to know?

So at the end of Curse, Jack Sparrow's (Captain), list of grievances are read out for the public to hear. Though we don't know all of what was said, (really, if anyone has that entire monologue can you let me know?), but we know he was accused of arson and impersonation, including a member of the Spanish Royal Navy, the British Royal Navy, and a cleric of the Church of England.

So which of those stories would you most like to know about?

That part of the script can be found here. It's Scene Twenty-Four.

Definately the cleric one, by the look on Jack's face when they read it out, he definately had a good time with that one!

Also, how could Jack pass for a cleric!?!

I would definitely go with the cleric one as well. His face at that moment is so entertaining. There would have to be an entertaining story there!

 I agree, cleric. Jack's face is priceless and anytime he makes a face like that, you know its something good .

Good question, Taryn!

Thanks, Jonathan, that bit helped!

I can see the consensus is 'cleric'. I, too, am interested in that one, though the 'Spanish Royal Navy' catches my attention. Can you imagine Jack Sparrow with a Spanish accent? I wonder what he was doing there?

This was one of the brilliant things about the first film--all these little throwaway lines and stuff meant to reference previous actions of Jack Sparrow, and then not telling us all about them--like the Singapore line and such. It's part of what made the whole PotC universe feel a bit more complete. Not only that but it left room for all the fanfic authors and writers who wanted to, as well as everyone who watched it to imagine their own background for the story. Just an overall brilliant decision.

I can't really say that there would be any one of Jack's stories that I'd prefer to hear over another, or hear at all. I rather like the mystery.

You know, what Alia says is really true. That line, as well as other similar ones, did make the world they created feel more complete. Instead of it seeming as if the character's stories started when the movie began and finished when the movie ended, it is as if we the viewers have been dropped in the middle of the characters' world and allowed to see one story unfold. When the story is done, it is not the end of the characters and their adventures, it is simply the end of one event of their lives. We are left feeling that there is more that we have not seen and will not see. Everything seems more alive and real to us because of this.

 Good point, Light and Alia. I never thought of it that way - I mean, I'm sure subconciously I took it for granted, but really thinking about how complex and complete their world has been created makes you appreciate it more. Like Light just said, it wasnt just one thread of events - it was several large events in a timeline of countless ones... ones we can only speculate at. But i think its better that way. Some of the ventures of Jack are best left to the imagination  not on the big screen. But hearing about them is a chance I certainly wouldnt pass up, of course. :)

Well, there was something there about impersonating a cleric
How did that get down?
And there's also that part in CotBP when he says to the two guards,"And then they made me their chief." What is that? Who is he talking about?

Any or all would be great -- the cleric one made Jack smile (temporarily), so I'm sure there was a good story behind it. What a great way to expand on a movie's character, via insinuation... That hangman's glare sure put a quick stop to it, though!

Ir's funny that the fellow who read the charges was called in to do that in more or less on the spur of the moment. He does a great. deadpan job of it.

My friends and I actually made up the story about the cleric one night while high on life. Something to do with a nun named Beatrice....and the efforts he went through to slip into her chambers. Isn't there a sort of legend about ten thousand virgins waiting at the gates of heaven for some men. Figure Jack was trying to attain paradise before his time.
