Has anyone ever played these games? I remembered playing one when I was smaller (and didn't have a clue what was going on ) but I still remember that I liked it. So when I saw the entire collection on amazon.com (containing Myst, Riven, Myst 3:Exile, Myst 4:Revelation and Myst 5:End of Ages) I had to get it! For the past week I've been getting back into them... I'm playing Riven, the second one, at the moment, having completed the 4th one (the reason for the odd order is my computer didn't seem to like a few of them, so I had to start with one it did), and started the 3rd and 5th ones... Yes, I like playing things in random orders :). I just need to get Myst to work then I'll be fine! But I'd forgotten how impossible they were... Or never really tried in the first place ;), so I'm having to have lots of help at the moment from walkthroughs (-is ashamed-). I understand they were the best-selling games of the 90's (according to wikipedia ), so I'm guessing someone must have played them? Or the other series... I think it's called Uru:Ages Beyond Myst? Has anyone got more brains than me and not used a walkthrough? Haha... |

I have all of them except Myst 5: End of Ages (which I didn't know about. Thanks for telling me) I've finished all the others except for Myst 4: Revelation. I started it but never finished it. I wish I could go into a detailed discussion about the others, but I had played them so many years ago, I've forgotten alot. I do remember that I really enjoyed them, though. The first Myst, I still have the old CD, but it doesn't play on my computer anymore. It was made for Windows 95/98, and I think I bought it around 1998. I finished that one without any hints or cheats, though. I can't remember if I didn't have an internet connection at the time, or if it was so new, I didn't think to look for it there. But all the others, I often looked up the walk-throughs. I don't always use them, but I do sometimes. I have the one for Myst 4 in my favorites right now. I played Uru a while back, and thought that their online game sounded like it would be a lot of fun, but apparently that didn't go over very well. For one thing, I don't know if anyone was willing to pay for it. By the time I played the game (and the one expansion pack they were giving away) the online version was already scrapped. EDIT: I didn't realize you didn't mention Uru. The company split in two and the other part (It was either Ubi Soft or Cyan, I can't remember which) tried to turn the game into some sort of online community thing, starting with a game called Uru. It was based on the premise of Myst, but sort of took it in another direction that had more to do with the people of the Ages (D'ni) and Yeesha. I can get more information if you want it when I go home tonight. But as I said, it didn't go very far. |

There's still an Uru Online... I registered for it the other day when I was waiting for my CDs to come through. But it's different, it's true... Instead of being the person doing the actions, you control someone, from the little bit I did. I didn't enjoy it as much. Oh, and as for Myst V... From what I've done so far, I've discovered one important difference which I'm not sure I like... The graphics. You know the graphics and whole design of all the other Myst games? They've changed it, for this last part. I guess they've used a more modern technique, but I personally think they should have kept the old one 'coz it seems kinda unique to me... You know what I mean? Just the whole... Design... But now it just looks like any old EA game, like Harry Potter or whatever. The people are all CGI instead of proper actors, so you don't have a real feel for it anymore, I don't think... Maybe I just haven't got into it as much. |

Well, I played the first one way back in the day. I didn't finish it, though. Now, whether this is because I was too young (and I was only in junior high at the time), whether I'm just not patient enough (my personal favorite theory), or whether I'm too stupid (not one I really want to contemplate, but one I can't discount, either), I really can't say. But, whatever the reason, I honestly found it rather boring. Like, I don't know... you'd solve a puzzle... and then it just expected you to solve another puzzle. And I really am impatient when it comes to games, I was like, "I want to be congratulated, dang it!" So, yeah, I didn't get very far.
