So I know everyone has had an experience where you've seen a way cool effect on someone's graphic and longed to ask how it was done. Or where you figured out how to do something in Photoshop/PSP/whateveryouhave that you didn't realize was possible, and want to shout out to the world how cool it is. Well here's a place to do it! Here we can share tips & tricks, as well as any cool tutorials/resources we find on the web. I'd like to start off by asking what programs everyone uses? I've noticed that even though Photoshop, PSP, and even the GIMP have very similar capabilities, people's graphic style often are very different (not better or worse, just different) depending on what programs they use. I'm using the trial version of Photoshop CS3 Extended at the moment, but unless I can convince my dad to buy it for me when the trial expires (not likely) I'll be back on Photoshop CS pretty soon. Oh, and I'll start the tutorial sharing too! This is something I discovered through one of those 'How did you do that?!' moments. I saw someone with a banner that had animated rain on it, and just had to ask how it was done. She pointed me to this tutorial. I used it to make one of my Liz banners. ![]() And here's another cool rain tutorial, when you want to add rain to an image without having it animated. And here's one for rainbows! |

Good thread idea!
For myself, I use photoshop cs2, though I've been meaning to start playing around with GIMP, mostly because that can run on Linux, and the next computer I get (in a long time, hopefully!) I'm going to make sure is Linux-based. I'm fed up with Windows to put it mildly. I don't have many "how'd you do that?" questions, I get them, but for the life of me can never remember what they are. A mind is a wonderful thing to lose... But I thought I'd share a fun, PotC-themed tutorial, that I used partially as reference (though I departed a lot from it), when I did my Royal Navy versions of the PotC movie poster. The tutorial can be found here. |

I use photoshop 7.0 works great for me, only trouble I have is finding good brushes for it. |

I stick to PaintShop Pro 8. The hardest thing about it, or one of them anyway, is finding brushes. A lot of resources tend to cater to Adobe PS programs or newer versions of PSP. I can't say I've got any "how'd you do that?" questions right off-hand either, but I have had them before. |

Ugh, yeah, Windows is incredibly frustrating...I desperately want to switch to Mac, but unfortunately I'm not in charge of computer purchases in the house quite yet. XD
Haha, I think I've seen that tutorial before! Love it. Sadly I don't have a friend willing to do 'the evil face,' so I can't achieve the full effect. ![]()
Thanks! I like yours as well.
OMG, deviantart=love. They have so many amazing brushes and textures there. That's where I get most of mine. And they actually have a lot of brushes for PSP as well: Link (P.S. loonie - love your banner! cool animation.) |
