Graphic Arts Challenge #2; (See dates inside)

Background:
Movie posters are one of the movie industry's primary methods of advertising, beyond TV spots, and trailers. The importance of a movie poster cannot be underestimated, because it is not only much cheaper to make, but it also lasts beyond the movie's release and is often sought after as art.

The Challenge:
The challenge is to take a movie poster for any movie (except Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Alamo), and using images from all the PotC movies, behind the scenes, promo shots, etc, to duplicate the movie poster's style. For instance, take this poster for Disney's The Alamo (2004):

You can see the basic layout for this poster, the font style, how the credits are done, and their catchphrase at the top. Using this as a guide, I knocked together this following image keeping some main things--the phrase, the one place in the background, the sunset coloring, the people on the top of the Alamo (here substituted with two people fighting on the Dutchman), the title, and the stars' names.

You're basically going to do the same thing, but with a movie poster of your choice, and you may title this new movie whatever you wish (excluding profanity and other sorts of vulgarity).

In addition, to include more people in this, you have the option of partnering up to do this--for instance, if you cannot do graphics--you don't have a program or anything else, we'll have members who can do those graphics work with you to decide what elements/themes of the poster to use, and so on. If you do not wish to work with anyone on this, that is fine, however, I do ask that anyone who is willing to partner up with others, please respond to this thread saying so (and specify if you can do graphics, or if you wish to be partnered with someone who can). If there aren't enough people who volunteer to partner, then the people who have will have the option of doing two graphics, one of each with a different partner.

Additionally, your poster should be 500x745 pxls (this ensures that it can be safely uploaded onto my photobucket, and resized to post in here, with a link to the original size).

Deciding the Winner:
Since people prefer this to be a contest, I'll run with that. All people who enter will receive a small button/banner saying they participated, and the winner (to be determined by a vote) will receive a specialized button saying they won.

You'll need to send the file to me on time so that I will be able to get up the poll--please get your entry to me by April 13th, so that that evening I may start a poll that will run for one week (until the 20th). If you can upload the file to an image hosting of some sort and send the link to me (so that I will rehost it in order to make it more difficult to tell who the artist is), I'd really appreciate that, however, you may feel free to email it to me with an attachment (I prefer .png files, simply because the quality is higher, but jpeg, gif, and bmp are acceptable formats as well). Just make sure you PM me first to tell me that it's coming so that I know to check my email, and know you're not sending me any viruses. Plus, this way we can make sure the email doesn't bounce. My email (remove the spaces and change the words to the symbols) is " hildwyn of rohan at yahoo dot com".

Additional Notes:
IMPORTANT! When you send in your entry, please send in a copy of the movie poster which inspired your design. If I don't get a copy of that poster, then your entry will be ineligible.

Any further questions, please feel free to ask. That however, is not an invitation for complaints about how this is run and/or the rules. This is the easiest way for me to run it, so that's how it's going to be done.

I'm offering myself up as a volunteer to work with someone if they wish. I can do graphics. Well enough anyway...nothing completely spectacular, but I can do it.

Very cool idea! I'm definitely going to get started on this one soon!

Question: Is is necessary that we make up a new name for the movie, or can we put like "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End"? Either way works, but I'd just like to be sure.

If anyone needs screencaps, I have plenty available. Most of them are from CotBP, but I do have some from DMC as well. I don't, however, have anything from AWE.

I'll volunteer myself for this too, if someone wants me to work with them! If not, I'll just do my own. XD Great challenge!

Wolf--any title you wish. You may go ahead and title it Pirates of the Caribbean if you wish. :)

I have some stuff from AWE if people need images (so I can supplement what Jonathan has), but you can also find a lot by google bombing--but contact me if you have something specific in mind, and I'll see if I have it.

I'm glad people like this challenge. It was going to be the first one, but I didn't have enough time to implement it, but at least we get to have the "crossover" challenge now. ;)

Just to make sure, this is limited to one poster per person or pair, right?

Yes, unless there are more people who want to be teamed up with someone who can do graphics, than there are people who can do graphics who have volunteered to work with people.

Darn! I'm having a tough time figuring out which movie poster I want to do. Or what genre, for that matter. :P

Next time I'll try to remember to put up a two day warning or so, but the next time I do it (for May) will be something like...2.5 weeks to make it hopefully.
