STAR WARS PASTS REBORN: THE BLACK TALONS CHAPTER I: EMERGENCE After spending over three decades in seclusion, the BLACK TALONS under the command of Admiral DARAEL HOLLINGER have begun preparations to return to the galaxy. They hope to return to the galactic stage as a force for good, and perhaps even restore the integrity and honor of the OLD REPUBLIC. The Black Talons make their return in the TAPANI SECTOR, a divided sector of various noble houses, all of whom seek to control the strategically important SHAPANI BYPASS RUN hyperlane. It is hoped that they can arrange an alliance with their old friends from the Clone Wars, HOUSE PELAGIA. However, the Jedi of the Black Talons have sensed a great disturbance in the Force, foreboding of a great evil looming in the distance. Ever vigilant, the Black Talons continue with their return to the galactic stage, unsure of how this new galaxy will react to their arrival... |

Bethal System, Pelagia Space Officer's Quarters, VEN-II Vainglorious Alyisa was meditating in her assigned quarters when a ring came from the door pannel. She opened her eyes and crossed the room to the door, opening it. One of the Marine Troopers was standing there. "I'm sorry to disturb you, Master Jedi. But you have a visitor." The Marine said, and stepped aside to reveal a short bird-like creature wearing the traditional brown robes of a Jedi. Alyisa's expression lit up with recognition, surprise and even joy. "Master Obrin!" She said, "Please, come in." Alyisa looked to the Marine and nodded. The Marine stepped aside and the Mrlssi Jedi Master stepped into the quarters. "It has been a long time, Master Rigel. Too long, perhaps." Jido Obrin replied, chuckling a bit, "I understand you have been quite busy as of late." "I have. But I didn't know you were still alive. No one had heard anything of you since we went into hiding." Alyisa said, moving over to the small desk, and sat down. She motioned to the chair opposite of her, and Jido climbed up into it, sitting down. "Oh, I was quite well, my dear. But with the fall of the Jedi Order, I knew it too dangerous to be a Jedi. So, I spent my days teaching back on Mrlsst. Until I made a rather interesting discovery." Jido explained, "One that I had to share with you." "Of course, Master Obrin. Anything you have to say is quite welcome. I still recall your renown among the Order as a researcher." Alyisa replied. "Please, my dear, you can dispense with the titles. I've had no need for them for some time now." Jido said with another chuckle, "In fact, I've been only answering to an entirely different name anyways, so it is taking some time to respond to my true identity. No need to muddle it up further." "I understand. I've sort of fallen into the rank and file protocol of the military people here." Alyisa said, nodding. "While I was teaching on Mrlsst, I came across a collection of ancient texts. They all made mention of a civilization, but the placement in time pre-dated the Infinite Empire." Jido explained, "Strangely, little else was mentioned, as if it suddenly disappeared. I began my search, and further found mention of refugees from the falling Sith Empire coming to this sector, but little else again. Only one world was mentioned in any of the texts I found: Tel'Shak." "I've not heard of that world." Alyisa replied. "Nor has anyone else, my dear. There has never been a world in the sector under that name. I searched across this sector for years, but nothing has become any clearer. There's not even a world that bears enough of a mark in the Force to have housed Sith." Jido said. "Then what you're saying is that this Tel'Shak is a...lost world? Of Sith?" Alyisa asked. "Perhaps. Much of what I have studied has been incomplete, lost to the sands of time, a mystery to even the Force itself. But I hardly accept that it was merely baseless legend. And I believe that we owe it to ourselves to find this world." Jido explained. "I'm afraid that we do not have much capacity for exploration right now. We've been asked to help defend Pelagian space from Callipsa and Mecetti. And this organization is primarily military." Alyisa replied. "Oh, I'm quite aware of that. One does not simply announce their return with three cruisers if they are a peaceful people." Jido said with a small laugh, "But I can no longer do this on my own. I need resources, and I need fellow Jedi. If there truly is a darkness out there, waiting, we must be ready." "...Jido, have you felt any major disturbances in the Force lately?" Alyisa asked. "Lately? Not as such. There was a rather interesting one about thirty years ago..." Jido said. "Yes, the murder of the Jedi." Alyisa replied with a frown. Jido shook his head. "No, no. Something else. Perhaps because of my distance, I could feel them both. No, this was...different. Like a surge of power was unleashed for a brief moment. Quite strange, as I felt darkness and light at once there. I have not understood that feeling, perhaps it was intertwined with the deaths of so many Jedi at once that it disrupted what I felt." Jido explained. "It is entirely likely. The sheer number of deaths during the Clone Wars did muddle feeling the ripples of the Force." Alyisa replied, nodding once. "Oh, I believe that was Palpatine's intention, my dear. A Sith Lord such as he would have been quite mindful of the effects he would have on the Force, so he needed a smokescreen. Few things cloud a Jedi's judgement like strife and death." Jido said. "Indeed. Jido, I would be honored to welcome you into our organization. We need as many Jedi as we can get these days, and I desperately need another Master." Alyisa said. "I am willing to offer my services, my dear. I am not a fighter, mind you, but I can help with intellectual matters. It would be a pleasure to work with fellow Jedi again." Jido replied. "How comfortable are you working with clones? I know that some of our arriving Jedi distrust them due to what happened." Alyisa asked. "I hardly worked with any of them before, so I do not have any ill will towards them. And the fact that they did not turn on you obviously means they can be trusted." Jido said. "Very well. I'll have a shuttle prepared for us, we will head to our headquarters straight away." Alyisa said, standing up. "Excellent. I look forward to meeting new people." Jido replied with a hearty laugh as he stood up. |

Werda'Aureti, Aureti System Neza Chandan/Firewall Living Quarters Neza had been kept in reserve in case the call came in to bring the Jedi Defenders, so that meant that while the rest of the fleet was jumping into Pelagia Space, she had to hang back. Well, it wasn't all that bad, she reflected, looking over to her husband lying next to her, sleeping soundly. CC-0571 "Firewall" was one of the original Fett-template clones, and was in charge, of all things, the 571st Assault Legion when they were still an Old Republic unit. Firewall was a good man, but was still a fierce warrior. But he also had an affinity with technology, one that he carried partly because in memory of their mutual friend, Senior Commander CC-5131 "Tinker". But Firewall didn't see her as a Jedi first, he saw her as a person. And as the Black Talons were born, so was Neza's love with Firewall. Master Rigel had lectured her about the Jedi rules on attachments, but it became clear that Neza wasn't going to listen, so she gave up. It was joked that Neza should have changed her last name to either Firewall or 0571, given the differences in her natural name and Firewall's manufactured name. But it was just a friendly joke... Neza slid out of bed, pulling on a bathrobe over her tank top and pajama pants, and padded over to the window...well, holographic projector window. The facility was deep underground, so the view out at Aureti from one of the craters was projected by hologram from realtime cameras. But it let her gaze out and get lost in her thoughts. Ever since she had felt that disturbance in the Force, it bothered her. Her entire life, she had no problem fighting against that which was right in front of her, but these things that were invisible and intangible, they were a different story... Part of her longed for some of her old friends to talk to again. Grrawlbacca and Krie Lacer came to mind. Grrawlbacca, or just Rawl, was a Wookiee Jedi, who had been her friend since their days as Padawans. Krie was a Miraluka who had befriended Neza when they met during the formation of the 443rd Assault Corps, although Krie tried so hard to teach Neza patience. Rawl died holding off a large group of Commando Droids with Tinker, after the droids had managed to drop behind their lines and were shooting up a medical station, during the Battle of Shopani. When she and Blaze arrived with the few troops they could spare from their position, it was enough to make her both angry and sad, to see so many men gunned down helplessly, and the death of two of her friends. Blaze took her over to where a group of wounded men, some of them even gravely by the looks of them, had tried to set up defenses and protect their brothers, and then to where Rawl and Tinker had fallen, where it was clear they had died fighting back to back. "Don't go falling to the dark side on me, General. The cowards who ordered this don't even deserve your notice. My brothers and General Grrawlbacca fought bravely for each other. Don't mourn their loss, celebrate their accomplishments and remember that they all fought honorably to their last." That had been about a year and a half into the Clone Wars. Later that same year, Krie was killed by a Tapani Separatist suicide bomber on Allandor. The bomber had infiltrated their ranks when the 443rd had been forced to draw non-clone recruits to make up for losses that weren't getting replaced fast enough, and he wired himself up with a Class A thermal detonator and attempted to blow himself up in the 571st Assault Legion's command center. She managed to push everyone out of the room, sealing herself into the room with the bomber, and wrapped them both in a Force shield. The thermal detonator had vaporized both of them. There wasn't enough there to even do a proper Jedi burial for her. And that's when Firewall came into her life, helping her to cope with such a loss without closure, and from there, they began to grow close. So from a loss came something that made her feel more complete. "You okay?" Neza looked to see Firewall standing behind her, wearing black PT slacks with the Republic emblem in white next to the left pocket on the front, fading away with time. Almost as if it was a sign of things to come... "Just...lost in thought." Neza replied. "About that disturbance? Or not being out there?" Firewall asked, stepping forward to lean into her, wrapping his arms around her. Neza leaned back into him, placing her hands on his arms. "The disturbance...and then to friends..." Neza said. "Yeah...it's hard sometimes. Thinking back to all the people who aren't here. I wonder what things would be like with some of them here..." Firewall mused. "Who's to say." Neza replied, "I just...I don't know, I find myself wondering what would have happened if things had gone like they should have...but part of me feels like that wouldn't be as good as things are now..." "Honestly, I couldn't say, dear. I mean, if we beat the Seps and all got to go home, there's no telling what would have happened to my brothers and I. And you'd probably go nuts as a Jedi Master." Firewall said with a grin. "Oh, you have no idea." Neza replied, smiling as well. "And we wouldn't be together, either. That's not a good ending in my book." Firewall added. "Yeah, being Mrs. CC-0571 wouldn't have been in the cards there." Neza said, laughing. "You know what I think when people ask that? I think that there would have been no place in this galaxy for us, and that the home we've made for ourselves is the only home we will have. We don't get to have normal lives like ordinary people, because we're not normal or ordinary. We're extraordinary people who live extraordinary lives, and many of us aren't going to live to see old age." Firewall said, "So, we've made something for ourselves to make the most of our lives while we're still here." Neza turned around and kissed Firewall. "You say the best things." "Yeah, well, I have enough free time between tests in the lab, you know." Firewall replied with a grin. "C'mon back to bed." "Alright." Neza climbed back into bed, shifting around to get comfortable, when she already heard Firewall snoring. It amazed her how fast he could fall asleep, even after all these years. Rolling her eyes, she finally got situated, and began to drift off to sleep. |
