The incorrect 'correcting' of already-correct grammar

...really pisses me off.

Me (after someone incorrectly pointed out that another user was incorrect in saying his sister hanged herself): Actually, it's 'hanged'. A picture is hung on a wall. A person is hung on a wall. A person is hanged by the neck until dead. Look it up and don't embarrass yourself in future by incorrectly 'correcting' the grammar of someone who was already correct. Dipshit.

It really pisses me off and makes me want to do great violence to man and thing alike.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

Hung is used when the object is meant to fit the scenario; and hanged is used when the object and the scenario doesn't have to have any relation to each other?

Examples:

The Union Jack is hung in front of the building.

I hanged my dirty clothes on the porch while I wait for my roommate get done with his laundry himself.

'Hanged' is only ever the past tense or past participle of 'hang' when 'hang' is used to refer to the method of execution. The past tense and past participle of every other use of 'hang' is 'hung', so both of your examples should be 'hung'.

Both are correct. Whether used to mean a person has been hanged as means of execution or that clothed are hanged or hung, it is the same word:

to put something somewhere so that the top part is held in position but the bottom part is loose and can move easily more...
▸to be fixed so that the top part is held in position but the bottom part is loose and can move easily more...
▸if your hair hangs down, it is long and not tied more...
▸if clothes hang well, they are loose and fit properly and look attractive when you wear them more...
▸to attach a picture, mirror, etc. onto a wall more...
▸if a picture, mirror, etc. hangs somewhere, it is attached to a wall there more...
▸if a wall or room is hung with pictures, there are pictures on the walls more...
▸to put a door into position more...
▸to attach paper to a wall as decoration more...
▸to kill someone by putting a rope around their neck and making them fall more...
▸to die in this way more...

I used to be a grammar Nazi back in the day.

Now I'm of the opinion where it really doesn't matter. The English language was formed by people that couldn't give a rat's bottom and merely wanted to be understood. It has also been updated over the years by those same people, with random bollocks ideas catching on. As long as I can understand what people have typed, I don't really notice or care if there's errors.

Well, that's the thing: the Internet has so accustomed me to the stupidity of others, whether in their hilariously pathetic grasp of their own language, their hilariously pathetic grasp of basic logic, their hilariously pathetic grasp of wit, and so on, that I don't really notice it anymore. It's just an unfortunate fact of the world, like suspicious testicular lumps, camel poo, and the French. But what still sets me off, just really, really grates on me, is when one of these unbelievably stupid twats attempts to 'educate' another -- possibly smarter -- person. It's just wrong to me on every level. It's like a ripple in the balance of the universe that'll escalate into a tidal wave and destroy everything unless I stop it. I have to stop it.
