Do you remember that cat that went missing in early November? I found out today that the poor cat had been hit by a car and killed on the day it went missing!
So be extra careful with your pets. My dog requires extra vigilance at roads because he has no road sense whatsoever and he also likes to bark at and chase after slow moving vehicles. This sad event shows that cats are not immune to accidents.

The road where the cat was killed has signs all up and down it saying that the speed limit is 20 mph. This is because there are lots of house either side of this road and two primary schools right next to the road. Despite this cars often fly up and down this road at 35+ because the road has a great sweeping bend. That poor cat was almost certainly hit by a speeding car. Cats tend to be very cautious animals especially when crossing a road.

I remember, back when I worked at the animal shelter, a cat being brought in one lunchtime that had been hit by a car. It was a mangled mess and was lying on the metal vet table making the most awful dying sounds. Since all euthanisations had to be first signed off by the head veterinarian, who was on his lunch break and not contactable, the bloody thing had to be left lying there in obvious pain until the vet came back. Nurses were standing around feeling helpless. I was fucking furious. I wonder what would've happened if I'd killed it myself then and there.

I suppose I would've lost my job and possibly been charged with animal cruelty. But I would've had a good defence that I was acting to put an end to the cruelty the cat was already experiencing by being left alive.

To hell with bureaucracy and the law, I would have put it down, job be damned.

I would make a terrible vet/animal shelter person. I would fall in love with all the animals in my care and would give them the best treatments, even if the owners couldn't afford it. I would probably end up funding the care of most of them until I have to sell my house to pay for it.

That's why me and suffering animals should never come into contact. :-(

That's really sad. I was thinking of maybe getting a cat when I eventually move into my new house. But I couldn't ever let it outside. Is that fair? I'd feel kinda cruel but I wouldn't to risk it getting run over or lost or something.

Below, where is your boat?
You are slow, you are slow
From where I stand
I can see the curvature of the Earth
And I want to make it flat
I will play, the sky is black
