We came home yesterday to the puppy crying and shaking. He was then really really subdued for ages and nothing would interest him. I checked him over and noticed he was tender on one side of his mouth but for the life of me he wouldn't let me near it to open up and have a look. So we took him to the vet and they found that he'd just broken off one of his canines and the root and nerves were exposed. No wonder he'd been crying. The stupid vet woman tapped her fingernail against the tooth and he screamed and wet himself. If you've ever had sharp dental pain you'll know how much pain he will have been in... except his was magnified as it was as if the tooth had been drilled into with no anaesthetic. My poor little baby. He was given a shot of painkillers and some antibiotics to prevent infection. He's a completely different dog right now and it's so sad. He obviously feels vulnerable while in this state as he's been following me around everywhere. He will sit at my feet and just look at the floor until I move somewhere else, then he follows and does the same. This is the same pup that yesterday morning was racing around the garden like a maniac on drugs, playing chasey games with Roxy. His frothy personality has been put on hold and all he wants is to curl up in my lap and sleep. So sad :( And Merry Christmas!!!

Poor wee Manny! I hope that he's feeling much better today? Will he be able to grow another canine tooth later Jane? |

My dog picks up coins pound coins especially and tosses them about. He has also started chewing wooden tea mats. |

He's back to his rambunctious self Fortunately it's a baby tooth so it will fall out within a month or so and his adult canine will come through fine. You'd love him, LB. I wish I could transport him instantly to your lounge so you and your doggy could meet him. |

It is good that his teeth won't be permanently effected. |

Yesterday evening I sat down next to my dog and told him what had happened to his New Zealand puppy pal. He sat there listening to my every word and I ended the conversation by saying:"I hope that you have learned a lesson from this? You, unlike your NZ pal won't get another tooth if you break one tossing heavy coins and chewing wooden mats." |
